Fire Autry

I wonder if the students will keep coming? For the last three games they have really shown up. But now…??
Nah. There's 4 more home saturday games. No one will care about Pitt in the finale. That leaves ND next weekend, maybe just because it's ND will get some butts in. Usually UNC brings a crowd too which is later in Feb. SMU I guess maybe.

I don't see anyone buying tickets unless they go on a little heater again and beat NCSt at minimum. Realistically there's 2 more games where the dome may even look half of what it usually does.

Syracuse has fickle fans to begin with. Zero chance of meaningful crowds

I think of the first game I watched as an admitted student my senior year of hs. Syracuse / Kentucky at the dome 1994. We are coming off probation and the place is a proverbial house of dynamite

What it is now is a shell

I don’t think Syracuse has fickle fans. We had good numbers for a while in football and great numbers in basketball when we were no longer competitive programs. Years of getting beat down and no faith in the coaches and school leadership will kill most fan bases.

Serious question.

What programs will also be on the hunt in a month that we're competing against?

The coaching carousel might as well be it's own little mini-portal.

Personally I think a short term measure of success with the new hire will be how sought after he is by other major programs. We need to be the top destination...

I can't stomach missing out on a hire to Pitt or Arizona St or some random Big East team. Or we are hearing that yet again we are paying a bottom of the barrel ACC salary.

“I just blocked that noise out because these guys have never played at this level and don’t know what we go through every day and how hard we work,” George said. “And just for them to come out here and boo, that’s, you know, that’s very disrespectful.”

Why should we be respectful of garbage play, giving up late in the game and constant hero ball?

He needs to stop worrying about the fans and worry about his play. There's plenty to keep him busy there.

He's been a MAJOR disappointment.

The line from any player needs to be "they should be booing me. I'm not making plays or putting max effort". Whatever. But this schools first reaction from AD to coaches to players is blame the fans.
Idk I think the booing and toxic environment has something to do with that Autry needed the extra year with better talent to play his philosophy. Well now they do have it and fans see it’s not good enough.

Maybe he can learn how to shoot free throws.
And this isn't a charity - these guys are ALL paid millions to perform.

Exactly!

Moreover, it exemplifies just how immature these kids young adults are on a broader scale with his; "attacking a man's character" comments. No one is attacking his character, moral compass, etc. Folks are booing the incredibly poor performance, while simultaneously being very well aware of just how much coin they are paid while consistently doing so.

How about learn how to shoot a free throw. With video and athletic software there is no reason not to learn how to properly and smoothly shoot a free throw. Emulate the great free thrower shooters you see online. Work separately with Eric Devendorf. Look at golf - everyone now has the same swing versus the variety seen 50 years ago - hell I even improved by watching endless videos. No reason a team should average less than 70 percent +. Not talking about shooting jumpers. Talking about standing at a line and putting the ball in the hoop. If you are getting paid and want to play at the next level, learn how to properly shoot free throws. The minute I saw some of the free throw shooting form in November I had a feeling we were going to be toast this year….huge red flag…canary in the coal mine.

He gone
I'm not so sure. I thought his tone of voice and the way he said it somewhat matter of factly which could indicate that he's staying no matter who the coach is. I took it that he already accepts that there is going to be a change. Maybe he anticipates that his father will be part of the process of making the choice and maybe even recruiting someone we want. I'd think ADJW would at least have a conversation with Melo about it. [saying that though may start a whole new conversation on here about whether Melo should have any role.]

l think Brent Axe's column this morning on Syracuse.com is unnecessarily harsh and unkind. He leads with quotes from the movie "Hoosiers" and almost says that Adrian Autry is a dead man walking. Did I want AA to be the coach? No. Did I think he should have been given a third year? No. But as I think Kiyan says in the interview is a priior post on here, he is still a human being, and a Syracuse alum. No need to make it worse than we already know it is. And I think Brent somewhat crudely comes close to the line if not crosses it. And as many of us on here suspect, he probably has read every post in this thread. I'll repeat this one statement he makes in his column this morning:

"Autry is already being referred to in the past tense by a segment of the fan base as the chance to play meaningful games in March is fading into the distance."

Actually, I don't recall any post on here refer to him in the past tense. Although many now think it's inevitable (we hope).
