Fire Autry

Does he have much money?
According to Basketball Reference he grossed $45 million during his NBA career. He's a smart guy, so I'll assume he made the appropriate investments and has managed his money well.

I think he's got a few bucks to throw at SU should he be so inclined.

*edit* I should add that I like Etan. I don't agree with everything he says, but I respect his thoughtfulness. What I didn't care for was his shilling for Weitsman and spreading a lot of misinformation about NIL last spring. That was gross.

Well, I guess we know which side Gene Waldron is on...

They're not kids. They're young adults who are all being well compensated to play a game. That's the very definition of being a professional athlete.

Adrian is a very well compensated coach. He can deal with a smattering of boos.

Like I said, Syracuse is one of the most gentle fanbases around. I watched Pats fans and the Boston media use Jerrod Mayo as target practice for 2 months last year. What's happening to Red now is like 1/100th of that.

I just wasn’t sure if he is like well know to still be incredibly wealthy. I’d assume he’s not Melo level

The basketball alums are a big reason we ended up with an alum as coach in the first place.

Cuse fans are relatively low-key compared to a lot of other fanbases... The fact that we even have chants going of "fire Autry" now speaks volumes.

Waldron can kick rocks in lecturing fans how to respond to our HC failing miserably. No one wanted this happen but it did and it's bad.

Honestly dasher, if this is true, there would be no reason to support the program going forward. If we truly don't have the resources to get what we need to compete, then what's the point?
I wasn't saying that would be the case. I was stating that that was a lot more likely be the reasons rather than that we waited to fire Red. I can make a argument that it is possible that we will have a lot more NIL with the next coach than what Red has to work with.

Also, we have students that have never seen Syracuse play in the NCAA tournament. They have a right to be frustrated.

Tru that. Not to mention a whole lost generation that has grown up watching subpar Cuse b-ball casually and we've never been good enough to make them diehards...

Let's hear that argument. I am starting to worry with all of Wildhack's comments about needing corporate NIL donors and not coming close to meeting those goals...

I mean...i really see both sides of this.

players like george, kingz, kyle, sadiq, kiyan betsey...they just got here...they dont have anything to do with the last 5+ years! so for them its gotta be odd...they are walking into this toxic situation giving it their all...the atmosphere around the program sucks. they couldve gone a lot of different schools...and now they face this situation.

in the offseason when they wer being recruited I can guarantee NONE of these guys hoped for what is currently going on...im pretty sure all of them wanted to be ranked and lock for NCAAT...and im also sure they all thought it was a high probabilty of happening - otherwise they woulda gone elsewhere. on paper, this team IS talented enough to be there

i like this team. I like the players. they all seem like good guys and cool. there have been squads and players over the years that i didnt really like...but these guys...easy to root for and watch...i feel bad for them.

i know the chances that this season has a happy ending are small ...but they arent zero. there is still a chance that things can turn around.

idk - i know the fans are pissed and apathetic or whatever other negative emotion there is to feel...but when i come on here or look on twitter and just see the constant bombardment and bashing of the coach...its prtty rough. i cant imagine what its like to be a player under such a scenario.

and you can say they are pros getting paid whatever...but they are also human. its gotta be hard...and it could even spiral from here.

i just wonder what fans think they are accomplishing by spewing such vitriol nostop these days? its definitely not helping the players - and it definietly is not helping recruit future players. and personally i think the negative noise around the program is making it harder for the players to perform well. its definitely not helping.

i mean i get it. im not happy with the state of the program or coaching either...but i feel sad for the players that this is their experience as a cuse player - guys like king and kyle this is their senior year...last chance...and its a shtshw

Fair enough. But let me be clear that none of my issues with this team, and coaching staff, is in relation to the players. The coaches, and especially the man in charge Red, have done them a disservice by not providing them the needed tools and/or direction, to be most successful.
Most everyone agrees that this team has talent and would likely have better results with a "better" HC. Despite major roster changes in 3 different years, the results have remained the same...chronic underachievement, lack of effort, lethargy, and selfish boneheadedness on the court. The common denominator in all this remains, HCAA.
The fans have the right and privilege to express their dissatisfaction, be it through chants and/or booing. And honestly, the alternative- apathy and silence, would be much worse. "The opposite of love is not hate...it is indifference". JMHO

That is probably true coming from JW. I just have a thought that could change things. I don't know if I feel comfortable sharing this because it is all mine about something I could see happening

Concur with this, I don't think waiting to fire Autry results in anything substantive. Of potential new hires, at the very least, Schertz will be coaching in the tourney and probably wouldn't commit to a new job until after then anyway.

Ok, I will continue with my worry then... carry on.

Is there a world where Autry would resign? I just think JW and the decisionmakers are lame ducks at this point so the ball is completely in Autry's hands.

I don't think he's in a position to just throw away his contract but it seems to be the only way he can save everyone involved alot of pain, mostly himself.

I still believe he really is a players coach for better or worse, he doesn't want his guys and his assistants dragged through the mud another 10 games. Nor does he need all the hate every day or boo's at the dome.

Surely he has the option to work out something out.

He'll land on his feet somewhere as an assistant because he's still a very good recruiter.

I wouldn't count on him resigning tho.

He will want his buyout (as will his agent.) This is life-changing money we're talking about for one person and he will want his promised wedge for the ridiculous 5-year contract he was given.

You can not fire a guy and still try hire a guy. By all accounts Devries to Indiana was a done deal last January.
Woodson announced a resign or mutual parting of ways in January which allowed them to start on Devries. I remember something about Devries son staying out injured the last half of the season or something

Celebrity poker tournament?

We have 11 regular season games left. On paper, I'm not sure that we'll win more than 2 of them.

Talking about the other end. He still had a job.

Tucker Devries missed almost his entire season at WVU. Only played in the first 8 games (early December).

He should have declared for the NBA draft after his junior season at Drake.

The players we have now are not accustomed to SU basketball being anything special. To them this is a gross overreaction from the fan base. To the fans we have dealt with mediocrity for far too long.
yeah theyre like hey guys we suck why are you crying ...its honestly lame

Miami had Lucas hired by early to mid February last season. This is why we need to move on from Red soon. Who cares if our assistants are incompetent. The future of the program is way more important than the remaining games this season.

Also, the list of qualified candidates doesn't appear to be long at the moment. Another reason to start the formal process.
yeah well most of the best coaches are currently coaching teams right now...so no need to hire someone new before the season is over

No one I know walks away from a lot of money to save themselves from aggravation. Red isn't going to resign without a push and money

Aside from NIL ( my least favorite group of letters in my lifetime) does the University have the ability to offer a competitive salary to a highly sought after coach? I keep hearing that they’re too cheap but I’m not sure I believe that. Whether or not they have the money needed……. I would love to know.

We're going to find out.

They are going to have to buy out Red's 5-year contract (I hope there are poor performance concessions on that) and then pony up for a new HC and staff... plus a NIL kitty that's acceptable to decent coaching candidates to back a slate of capable players.

Big boy pants time...
