Our identity is Syracuse basketball, the conference alignment had nothing to do with JBs daddy ball and then a terrible hiring decision.Truth hurts on the big east comment
It hurt us a lot. Our identity was the big east.

Prior comments on this site (I don't recall which thread) indicate that Gerry did not take it well. This is interesting insight. I felt it wasnt clear cut who should be next. Some people assumed Gerry, which I thought was odd being Autry was more senior and it plays to my thoughts at the time, that neither had the resume and nor were ready based on the program decline and they should have just went outside. Hop was a no brainer, program was rolling, JB had moved on from Bernie Fine, it made for as close to a smooth transition as a program could imagine having, it just never happened.
I was curious how Gerry felt about the transition.
The big east started w the opening of the carrier dome.
Well, who in the hell wouldn’t?Ill take a drunk Bob Huggins over red at this point..

We were regional and become national w those 2 moments in time. It’s the identity that carried us through the 80s-90s-00s
Once we removed one part of that stool it fell apart identity wise. Sure it’s not the same but it wasn’t the same in 2010 either.
Players like to play regionally regardless of what we like to think. Parents care too.
The program suffered as a result. Not saying it can reverse but we pretend it doesn’t matter we don’t play at msg or playing providence/georgetown/uconn anymore
Marketing wise we are a fish out of water in the ACC.
Apologies you are 100% rightYou can not mention "those 2 moments in time" in the same sentence without mentioning the advent of ESPN! It can be argued that that had the most significant bearing on what transformed Syracuse University basketball into the stratosphere over anything else. As it was them that showcased/broadcasted Orange hoops in such a way, for not only the prospective national recruits which followed, but for the entire world to see as well.
Amen. ChamelotThe house that Pearl built.
Desire and ability are two different things that people often conflate when assessing others.I feel bad for Red. It's not like he is not trying. Still bleeds Orange. It's no secret what will happen at the end of the season. I expect he will continue to handle himself with class when asked about this stuff.
I’d try and work hard and probably be fired end of year for job performance.Desire and ability are two different things that people often conflate when assessing others.
it’s only Jim’s fault! He really needs to resign for everyones sake, ESPECIALLY his
I used to follow Syracuse basketball closely tho I live downstate now. But I'm really not interested in basketball with the current coach. I don't claim to be an expert, but it seems that almost every game the team does pretty well in the first half, then the game gets out of reach in the second half. Is only one team allowed to make adjustments? To me that alone indicates lousy coaching. He really needs to resign for everyones sake, ESPECIALLY his
Yup. I watched 2 mins today and had zero desire to continue.I used to follow Syracuse basketball closely tho I live downstate now. But I'm really not interested in basketball with the current coach. I don't want to be negative, but a couple weeks ago I said there is a chance we are one of the three ACC teams not to qualify for the tournament. However there are a bunch of bad teams that could stand in our way.We can honestly lose out.
There’s no being negative anymore with the product we are watching.I don't want to be negative, but a couple weeks ago I said there is a chance we are one of the three ACC teams not to qualify for the tournament. However there are a bunch of bad teams that could stand in our way.
Now that the team has been (officially?) eliminated from any NCAAT birth, I think the school can come out and say Red will not be retained after the end of the season but will be allowed to finish out the season. That will allow them to announce a national coaching search to start garnering interest from agents that represent the coaches. We need to turn the pages on this era asap.
