For as terrible as this team has been

I can’t wait to go 4-8 / 5-7 next year and people still Be optimistic. I love the players, not the coach
I’ve been critical of Dino this year, but I also think there is reason for optimism. We really did see our underclassmen compete against ND today.

If we can bolster our OL and DL, and bring in a legit QB, then next season could be Ok. If not, the optimism won’t be warranted.

Has any P5 coach survived a 1-10 season? Perhaps, but that's a hard pill. I fully support Dino, but, if there aren't some changes? The entire staff is gone, next year.

Kinda apples and oranges. How many 1-10 coaches played an entire in conference season? Our only OOC game was against a ranked team.

I just can’t get over how bad we looked playing two crappy teams (Duke & Louisville) after byes. To me it is inexcusable the longer we have to prepare to play awful teams the worse we are.

This isn’t hard. No matter who the HC is (outside of like 4 guys) you start that many underclassmen, start with an unhealthy OL, no spring ball, two new coordinators, starting QB out for a bunch of games - you’ll get uneven performances.

I found our freshman D was validation for our recruiting on that side of the ball and our new DC, given all those asterisks.

Agreed 144%.

Dino basically cleaned house after last year.

And then Covid prevented him from moving anything in or doing any work to the house.

The crootin part of the equation seems to be moving in the right direction.
We had a LOT of young’uns who played very well for us this year, and the incoming class looks like it will add to that.

Tony White more than earned his pay this year.
Given the injuries and opt-outs - imagine ANY team losing TWO future NFL d-backs and still being pretty solid - he did a fairly masterful job of using the players he had to be pretty damn effective.

If our O had been able to cash in on all the TO’s and field position the D gifted them, the season would have been much better.

I don’t think Sterlin Gilbert can be fired, yet.
Syracuse can’t really burn $ like that, and it did seem like the playcalling improved a bit later in the season.

Dunno how coach Cav doesn’t get fired.
Once again, the OL did improve - some - late in the season, but we can’t keep sacrificing the first 2/3 of every season waiting for them to gel.

For sure. Cav seems like a huge issue IMO. But it’s the one job I have the hardest time judging.

Think with cav is ppl say he can recruit, looks like he had a nice ol haul this class assuming everyone signs, could be convinced giving him one more year

I could be convinced either way. Injuries make it hard to judge his coaching ability too. Having Rhino be serviceable is a feather in the cap to both Cav and the player.

Weve competed in just about every game. Kind of interesting if you think about it.

Well, we competed for portions of every game. The Notre Dame effort was there, for sure. We kept it pretty reasonable until those turnovers in the early 3rd quarter. A handful of the young players look like quality for the future.

I know he said that 1/3 of his roster is unavailable, and if only 5 or so of those 30 missing players are opt-outs, then I don't know what they're doing wrong in practice or in S&C, because this seems like 3 years out of 4, we're playing without about half our starting lineup.

I hope they are able to (a) have spring football this year, and (b) keep nearly everyone healthy, at least until the season gets underway in the Fall of 2021.

Those 2 issues are probably the most important in terms of whether we are a car wreck again next year, or have the possibility to be competitive. The third issue, of course, is which players return.
