Welcome to International Polar Bear Day!

Help us make it a global day of action for the bears by taking part in our Thermostat Challenge at home, work, or school.

It's simple: just lower your thermostat up on February 27th to reduce your carbon emissions and help polar bears. And then make every day a polar bear day by buying and installing a programmable thermostat or taking extra steps to reduce your energy consumption throughout the year.

Louisville defeats Syracuse basketball 88-68 (Brent Axe recap) (PS; Axe)

The good news is that all the experts say that this year's NCAA Tournament bubble is the weakest in years. ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi has called it 'historically weak.'

One more win should clinch a NCAA Tournament bid for the Syracuse University basketball team.

The bad news is Syracuse fans have now have a week to talk themselves into a tizzy as the Orange won't hit the court again until Saturday at the Carrier Dome against Georgia Tech.

There are two things working against Syracuse's NCAA chances. One is the Orange's record on the road/neutral sites (2-9) and two is the lack of a quality non-conference win.

Syracuse has a 5-7 record against the Top 50 teams in the latest RPI rankings (as of this writing)

Working for Syracuse are three Top 10 wins (Duke, Florida State, Virginia) and having nine wins in the toughest conference in college basketball. A 10th win in the ACC? Have to put them in.

Syracuse has two guaranteed games left. Georgia Tech on Saturday and one game in the ACC Tournament. If the ACC Tournament started today, Syracuse would face Virginia.

We'll leave the bubble talk for now on this thought. Syracuse has a record of 17-13 following its loss to Louisville. Via Jerry Palm of CBS, no team with 15 losses has received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Donovan Mitchell scored 25 points, Ray Spalding added 18 points and 11 rebounds and Deng Adel had 17 points to help sixth-ranked Louisville run past Syracuse, 88-68, at the KFC Yum! Center on Sunday.

Louisville (23-6, 11-5 ACC) led by as many as 23 points and shot better than 50 percent for the seventh time this season. The home victory pulled the Cards back into a tie for second place with Florida State in the conference standings, with Notre Dame, a game back in the win column, set to play late Sunday evening.

"It was another good win for us," U of L coach Rick Pitino said. "Wins in this conference don't come easy. ... Offensively, we did a lot of really good things."

Mitchell again had two highlight-reel dunks against Syracuse, similar to his emphatic alley-oops at Syracuse two weeks ago. The guard made 6 of 10 from 3-point range and came close to topping his career high of 29 points. It was his seventh 20-point performance in ACC play this season.

He got help from Adel in the second half, as the 6-7 sophomore scored 13 of his points after the halftime break. Quentin Snider also contributed 12 points and six assists.

The Syracuse Orange Are Ripe And Ready For March (insidetheloudhouse.com; Weisleder)

The Syracuse basketball team is ripe and ready for the ‘March Madness’ that’s about to be thrust upon us. Is Orange Nation ready to bust some brackets?

To the dismay of the doubters and haters, the Syracuse basketball team are threatening to make another Final Four run.

After losing three straight games to Pittsburgh, Louisville, and Georgia Tech, the Joe Lunardi’s of the world were once again ready to leave the Orange out of their bracket projections.

Syracuse has been successful this year when they have played in the Carrier Dome.

In the past month, they beat two top ten teams, (Florida State and Virginia) and took No. 8

Louisville to overtime, all at home. Wednesday night was no different.

With their backs against the wall, playing in front of the largest supporting crowd in all of college basketball this year, Syracuse knocked off No. 10 Duke. Heroic efforts from senior-transfer John Gillon and freshman Tyus Battle led yet another miraculous comeback punctuated by a buzzer-beating three pointer.

Drone crashes through window of 27th-floor NYC apartment - New York, NY (am970theanswer.com; AP)

Police in New York City are looking for the owner of a drone that crashed through a window on a high-rise apartment building.

NYPD officials say the drone crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. Saturday into a 27th-floor apartment in the Waterside Plaza tower overlooking the East River in Manhattan's Kips Bay section.

Police say a 66-year-old woman living in the apartment was at her computer when the drone crashed through the window and landed just a few feet away from her. She wasn't injured.

Police have recovered the drone, but so far don't know who owns it. Their investigation is continuing.

The bracketology is so silly. Palm had SU as a last four in prior to losing on the road at Louisville. Then out after losing that game. Step back a little and consider the conclusion that a bubble team who is considered in, is now not worthy of a bid because they couldn't beat the #6 team in the country on their home floor. It's ridiculous. This also implies that other bubble teams a presumed to be able to win that game? Which ones?

Thank you. It is very good to have a polar bear expert on the board.

Syracuse Orange
Record: 17-13 | RPI: 78 | KenPom: 51 | Sagarin: 40 | KPI: 60

Current seed projection: First four out

A Final Four team last season, the Orange are so enticing because they’re a national brand with a cranky Hall of Fame coach, though the roster is mostly new. The most reliable player is a transfer from Colorado State who began his career at Little Rock, and almost nobody knew about him until a few weeks ago. John Gillon has been one of the five biggest breakout players this season. Wins over Virginia, Duke, Florida State and Miami could vault Syracuse into the field. But the Orange are certainly not in yet. Two wins would lock them in, I think. That means beating Georgia Tech, then winning the first game in ACC tournament play. A loss in either one, and the committee would be justified in sending Syracuse to the NIT. That RPI is stinky right now, and will loom especially large unless it rises into the 60s -- at least -- by the time the committee makes its decision.

Well that is foolish. Beating GT at home and anybody we'd play in the first round of the ACCT ain't gonna get our RPI anywhere near 60.

Norlander thinks JG is our most reliable player.
The rest I agree with.
