Welcome to National Laundry Day!
Even though National Laundry Day and Tax Day often land together on April 15, remember to keep these two activities separate. Anybody who has ever recovered a $20 bill from the washing machine knows why.
That said, we generally don’t love doing laundry. However, we’re thrilled when it’s done. Think clean clothes, fresh sheets, and that special fresh laundry scent. (Do you have a favorite dryer sheet fragrance? If you must know, we here at National Today are partial to something in a lavender.)
The word “laundry” comes from two Welsh words, “lloon,” or crazy, and “dyrte,” or dirty. The Welsh jokingly called the English “lloon dyrtes” and with time it morphed into “laundered.”

SU among First Four Out in way-too-early 2021 bracketology (PS; Burrows)
Despite likely losing Elijah Hughes to the NBA, early indicators show experts are fairly high on Syracuse basketball for next season.
Joe Lunardi, ESPN’s expert bracketologist, has the Orange among the First Four Out in his latest way-too-early NCAA bracket.
Lunardi currently has the Orange lumped in with Penn State, Butler and Clemson. Butler finished the season ranked in the Top-25 of the Associated Press poll while Penn State had a breakout season in the Big Ten.
Syracuse finished just 18-14 last season, and would likely have needed to win the ACC Tournament to earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Orange fans have reasons to be encouraged, though.
Freshmen Joe Girard and Quincy Guerrier both had strong stretches of play last season and many expect them to take steps forward in 2020-2021. Center Bourama Sidibe also showed significant improvement over the final stretch of the season.

Which Syracuse basketball player has had the best NBA career? - The Juice Online (the juice; Dagostino)
Last week at The Juice Online we pontificated about a 16-player tournament for former Syracuse players and their NBA careers. We took the best 16 NBA careers for Syracuse alums of all time and put them through the test, advancing each player through the Sweet 16.
As a friendly reminder of the rules for this exercise, what happened at Syracuse doesn’t count. Guys like Pearl Washington, Lawrence Moten and Leo Rautins had great SU careers, but didn’t make much of an impact at the next level and weren’t included in this bracket.
When we left off on Monday, we were left with these matchups for the Final Four:
With all that in mind, let’s get to the semifinals!
#1 Carmelo Anthony vs. #5 Rony Seikaly
Basketball Reference lists Rony Seikaly’s comparable players (among others) as fellow Big East big men Roy Hibbert and Emeka Okafor. Anthony’s comparables are guys like Rasheed Wallace, Antawn Jamison and Dennis Rodman. Anthony is hanging out with a different crowd. ANTHONY ADVANCES.

Syracuse Basketball: Orange offers Arthur Kaluma, but competition intense (itlh; Adler)
Syracuse basketball has entered the recruiting bout for 2021 four-star forward Arthur Kaluma, who is picking up some impressive offers.
Syracuse basketball recently offered a scholarship to 2021 four-star forward Arthur Kaluma, per a tweet from Jake Weingarten, the owner of Stockrisers.com.
Weingarten also detailed that the 6-foot-8 Kaluma, a rising senior who attends Dream City Christian School in Glendale, Ariz., has received other offers of late from Big 12 Conference powerhouse Kansas and Pac-12 Conference member Utah.
Any instance where the Jayhawks are involved means that the battle to land a prospect, in this case Kaluma, will prove extremely challenging.
Kaluma, who runs on the AAU circuit with Vegas Elite and is deemed a top-60 recruit nationally across the 2021 class, has landed numerous other offers, according to a review of various recruiting Web sites. Those offers include from Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, St. John’s, UNLV and USC.
Kansas, which ended the 2019-20 campaign ranked No. 1 in both major polls, is certainly the most acclaimed of the bunch. But Texas Tech reached the 2019 March Madness title tilt, and Oklahoma State absolutely crushed the Orange during the past season.
From a position perspective, Kaluma is listed as either a power forward or a small forward. Currently, the ‘Cuse has a quartet of forwards on its roster, assuming redshirt junior Elijah Hughes stays in the NBA Draft, although three of those guys are underclassmen, and Marek Dolezaj is a rising senior.

Syracuse Basketball: Breaking down Orange all-time freshman team (itlh; Lee)
Syracuse basketball has had classic teams, players, and moments in history. Here is our full Orange all-time freshman team!
Every Syracuse basketball fan has memories of some of the most remarkable individual seasons in program history. Now, what if you grabbed those individual seasons and put them together on one historic team?
But how to rank a season? Players are being selected individually so their individual accomplishments will obviously be a leading factor. But when you go through the Orange’s history just looking at statical accomplishments you’ll have 20 guys on a team.
So in attempts to limit it down to five guys (two guards, two forwards, one center) the impact an individual had on the team’s success that season will help factor as well. Even then it becomes near impossible to limit it to five so an honorable mention will be given to each position.

A Couple Of ACC Transfer Notes (DBR; King)
Two ACC transfers to mention as Virginia and Louisville both nabbed one.
In Virginia’s case it was Trey Murphy, a 6-8 forward from Rice who, by the way, is a native of Durham. Tony Bennett is developing a knack for recruiting this state - Murphy is the sixth North Carolinian to head up to Virginia in the last four years. He’s just a sophomore.
Like everyone else, he can’t do a visit right now but was sold by the facilities and Smithers Bennett.
And for Louisville, it was San Fran grad Charles Minlend Jr., a 6-4 guard who put up 14.4 ppg and 4.7 rpg this past season. He also had just under two apg.
Obviously Minlend will be immediately eligible but it’s possible Murphy might as well. The NCAA is set to vote to change the transfer rules to allow a one-time immediate transfer which would give the Wahoos a solid boot next year. Murphy averaged 13.7 points and 5.5 rebounds this past season and academics shouldn’t be a big deal since he’s coming from Rice, like Virginia a solid academic school.

A Syracuse bicycle shop was threatened as 'non-essential’; here’s how it found a way to stay open (PS; Curtis)
A Syracuse bicycle shop, once threatened with having to close as a “non-essential” business, is figuring out a way to keep some money coming in.
Syracuse Bicycle was among the bike shops statewide that had to shut down when the state closed all non-essential businesses to fight the spread of the coronavirus.
Paul Komanecky, the owner of Syracuse Bicycle, faced the prospect of closing and sending home his 15 employees at the start of his busy season.
On March 20, Komanecky submitted an application to Empire State Development to designate his business as “essential,” so he could reopen. Other bike shops did the same.
On March 22, the state approved the request. ESD allowed bike shops to continue because they provide transportation services.
