Pulled pork, consisting of shredded barbecued pork, generally from the shoulder, is celebrated and indulged upon today with National Pulled Pork Day. It is usually smoked slowly outdoors over wood, cooking for hours, regularly for more than half a day, after a dry rub is applied to it. But it can also be made in a slow cooker, in an oven, or in a pressure cooker. Once cooked, pulled pork is shredded and mixed with a sauce. It is often eaten in sandwich form—as a pulled pork sandwich—but it can be eaten on its own. It is particularly popular in the South.

ACC commissioner on SU's place in league: ‘Syracuse absolutely makes ACC basketball better’ (PS; $; Waters)
Since joining the ACC, the Syracuse basketball program hasn’t enjoyed the same level of success that it did during its three decades of membership in the Big East.
In the last eight years, Syracuse has finished no higher than sixth in the ACC. Last year, Syracuse suffered its first losing season in Jim Boeheim’s 46-year tenure and wound up ninth in the conference.
However, ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said the Syracuse basketball program remains a critical piece in the conference.
“The tradition and history of Syracuse absolutely makes ACC basketball better and will continue to moving forward,’’ Phillips told syracuse.com. “You’re always hopeful your big brands are successful. You can pick the sport and identify who you want to say who the big brands are, but certainly, the sport of basketball and Syracuse are synonymous with success.’’

Along with the importance of the Dome’s first ranked versus ranked matchup since 2001, Syracuse Basketball is still finding ways to stay in front of the eight ball. Now that might seem like a blasphemous statement with the amount of 2023 slander that’s expressed on the Fizz in regard to no recruits in this upcoming recruiting class, but this is referring to the year after. Two big time, four star recruits are on their way to Central New York this weekend in 6’7 forward Damarius Owens and 6’4 guard Elijah Moore.
Where optimism shines is that both recruits are from New York State. Owens is a Rochester native, while Moore hails from the Bronx. Uneasiness lies in the details. Owens’ talent is well-documented, receiving offers from Alabama, Creighton, Marquette and Virginia Tech. The same with Moore, who garners offer sheets from UConn, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, St. John’s, Alabama, Miami, California and Notre Dame. The amount of competition is palpable but the simple fact SU is seriously testing the waters for ’24 studs is already a stark improvement.

Popular DeWitt restaurant closes after running out of space and battling inflation (PS; $; Miller)
A wildly popular restaurant in DeWitt is closing for good Friday because the owner says he ran out of space while battling inflation and supply issues.
The Peachtree Sandwich Company, known for its house-cured bacon, smoked brisket and homemade focaccia bread, will serve its final meal this week. Owner David Anastasio said he was getting too big for his long and narrow spot in the shopping plaza at 4461 E. Genesee St. and didn’t want to sign a long-term lease. He also suffered issues with staffing, rising food costs and getting ingredients and packaging, he said.
Peachtree opened March 17, 2021. The takeout restaurant was an instant success and remained popular until the end. A line often stretched onto the sidewalk each day at lunchtime. You’d see the same thing as commuters returned to their suburb each afternoon.
“The timing wasn’t quite right, the space was never the best fit, and rising costs didn’t help,” Anastasio said Tuesday afternoon. “We did what we set out to do, which was to serve delicious food and provide great hospitality in a place where our guests felt comfortable and welcome. We want this to feel more like a celebration of life than a funeral.”
