Forget talking about the problems...what’s the answer?

to be fair we didnt play a ton of tampa 2 tonight seemed like lots over 1 high safety with lbs blitzing to fill gaps and keep jackson contained

Allow smoking in the Dome. Allow players to smoke on the sidelines and during games.

More dancers and bring back the DJ. Glow sticks.

Put the pee troughs and commodes in the first row facing the game, you'll never miss a minute of the action.

time, recruiting, lots of money, careful planning and investment.

This is the key here, LOTS of money.

When Gerg was here this program sunk to depths very seldom seen by any program much less a program with as rich and proud a history as SU.

I just want someone to humor me with examples of program that arose from the depths of Hell without spending tons of money? Because it appears that the SU administration is expecting results by not spending anything. And having a medical staff determined to work against the program with policies born from the dark ages.

And don't say coaches salaries and RENTED private jets for recruiting because what they have spent on that is chump change. Dabo's DC makes more than our entire assistant coaching staff and I think Louisville spent that on hookers alone for their basketball team.

Alright go...

Really? UL put up more points on us this year than they did on any other team. Including Kent State and Mercer. Mercer. An FCS school.

Mercer.

Quit focusing on symptoms instead of problems. Being reactionary isn't productive.

Put Samuels at NT. Slayton and Williams become DTs. Move Robinson and Coleman to LB spots. Go with 3 safeties, 2 corners, and a nickel, or whatever DB configuration that best matches whatever an opponent can be expected to throw at us. That front three should be able to hold the LOS against the run. Robinson and Coleman can be used to generate a pass rush, the 6 DBs can go zone, or man, or blitz, as needed, depending on the situation.

Is the glass half full? Half empty? The point is... there's a glass. What I'm saying is that, in my opinion anyway, SU has a coach who knows how to win, by causing his team to know how to win. The program is still in a sort of prototype stage, and we fans have had our psyches sent all over the place, as a result. For me, anyway, yeah, watching today's game was painful, to say the least - but the big pain was for what has been left of the team, after getting thrashed in three close ones, (and you know which three I mean,) and coming away with a big time win in one of them. Despite being physically outgunned, these guys are still suiting up, and I'd be damned to call any of them losers; they are NOT losers, but they are beat up. I saw "time" and "patience" in the comments and those two items equal commitment, to me. This Syracuse team has a winning spirit, and that's a foundation for something good. I'm in.

The entire problem with the way we played defense both against Wake and Louisville was that we changed from a man philosophy to zone with our DB's and Linebackers.

That is what is killing us.

It appears we do that against mobile running QB's for some reason. Maybe it is to keep the DB's eyes toward the line of scrimmage so they can tackle a potential running QB. Maybe it is because Kielan and Williams are playing safety and can't stay with faster receivers in man and really aren't fast enough to do that against better teams.

Reminds me of Shafer/Bullock strategy to change the defense just for GTech and out-thunk themselves.

Just play the defense you installed in Spring and Fall ball, that is what the kids know.

This is a great post. Spot on. It must have to do with who is playing. I believe it is based on our lack of talent/speed at the safety position.

For the millionth time we don’t play a Tampa 2 defense. I’m not sure you really watched the game, but if so, more power to you. I know it fits some odd narrative you a running in your own head, but exactly how many plays did we run cover 2 against UL yesterday? The answer is you don’t know.

Our defense is a 4-3 base defense woth multiple coverages and looks. That’s it folks. It’s isnt any different than most other defenses out there. We run a lot of man coverages this year, but have been playing more 3 deep and zone defenses due the injuries we’ve seen in the secondary.

What we are seeing right now are depth issues at the program rearing it’s ugly head. Jordan Martin is a good football player, but he was a corner at Toledo last year. He shouldn’t be that big of a difference maker in our secondary but he was. Cordy is a big deal to us. Let’s not mention that Franklin and Bennett are playing banged up and Scoop is playing with his arm in a massive brace.

Offensively, we just can’t move the ball with out Eric behind center. It’s that simple. His mobility helps mask a few deficiencies with the run game, but he also is a pretty darn good quarterback as we are painfully finding out. It’s sad that we don’t have a kid that can move the chains consistently behind him available to us right now. If I’m the staff, I’m bringing someone in this class just in case Tommy isn’t the guy.

Shoot, you take away two starting safeties, starting QB, and starting RB away from most programs and they are going to struggle. The issue is exacerbated with Dino because he isn’t going to change. He’s not going to try and lose 27-14. He’s rather loose by 40 using his system than doing anything else. In his opinion, there aren’t style points in losses.

The answer is this: there are players on this team that probably aren’t P5 material. Dino can’t wave a magic wand and make them diagnose plays faster or be able to run down the best player in college football from behind (Lamar is the best hands down). IMO, he should have gone the Marrone route and scorched the roster - brought in JUCOs and transfers to band aid things for a bit until the roster was settled.

What we are seeing are kids out there that are just a step behind. I think Dino is seeing this, and wouldn’t be surprised to see a few more transfers and JUCOs added this offseason than originally thought.

Mercer.

As much as I enjoy a mention of my alma mater, Louisville didn't play Mercer this year, Einstein.

My bad, Murray State.

Still not a good look, and way to look at the mundane, without facing the charley-foxtrot:
