Found this interesting

I don't really get the issue with the city as a visitor. Armory Square has perfectly fun bars and a decent variety of restaurants. It's clean, well maintained and safe. Don't think it's any worse than any small city entertainment district. Our campus is beautiful with a fun mix of architecture. The impromptu tailgates basically everywhere add to the atmosphere.

I totally agree with the tigernet comment. Born, raised in Syracuse and attended SU - The Dome is a dump as is the city. Can't believe we can't do any better as a university or city. Haven't been back to a game in years and was surprised to see the same old Dome, crowded, hot and not very interesting. Glad I live in California!

Stay in California.

There’s so much to do with that, I’ll just re-state be happy you are in California. Most of us violently agree.

Could not disagree with you more.

Other than our mutual feelings about you living in California.

The Dome is a dump. But it’s our dump. Uncomfortable as hell to watch a game there and yet I love it.

We??? You’re not part of we buddy. And if you haven’t been back in years, how would you know it’s crowded, hot and not interesting? Glad you live in California.

Great post though.

The Dome can be uncomfortable because it’s tight. But it’s not a dump. I’ve been to several college stadiums — BC, Rutgers, Penn State, Notre Dame, FSU, Maryland, Tennessee, etc —and the Dome fairs well with most of them.

Agree with this. Went to FSU and was shocked that beneath the brick facade, it was like a tinker toy set. Getting food there was like going underneath the stands at Oswego Speedway.

i've been to auburn and tennessee and I'll have to defer to anyone who wasn't trying to drink themselves to death those days. The orange bowl was the biggest dump ever. i love that college football doesn't need all the fancy stuff that nfl stadiums do. it feels more timeless.

The majority of Clemson twitter people were claiming we intentionally injure players.

So there’s that. But overall my friends said the Clemson fans that attended the dome are always friendly.
Our players were taught by their boy Ben Boulware and his habit of sticking his fingers where they don't belong...

Michigan was a loong time ago but I swear I sat on concrete. Not real plush. So there's that. I don't get the hole dump thing. I typically don't notice if a stadium is dumpy unless I feel like I'm going to be murdered walking around. I'm there to drink beers and watch a game. I don't need spa treatment.

Yeah. Don't ever confuse the fine folks that attend games with that unmoderated cesspool called tigernet

We can do better and we're trying. There are just so many, many people of your ilk that still won't leave, so it's going to take a while longer.

Nah I like seeing what the average meat head football fans thinking. And it's good their ignorant town/city/area comments, that's what keeps the rif raf out and the population down dolts like that who limit their exposure away from the areas that make this part of the country the best.

But anyway found the dome comments fascinating as knew it was loud but the loudest? Wow
A lot of people, particularly from the south think that buildings and neighborhoods that aren't new and interchangeable are dumpy. I prefer variety of architecture and restaurants that aren't chains. I worked in midtown Manhattan for 20 years. It amazed me how many tourists flocked to the TGIFs or other national chains for lunch and drinks, leaving the great little restaurants and bars to the locals.
When my family travels, we try to stay in an Airbnb and eat where the locals eat.
To each their own, I guess.

The Dome isn’t a dump but it’s not very nice either. The city of Syracuse is the same, it’s a step up from being a dump, I wouldn’t encourage any young person to stay around here.

If we're generalizing, then yeah. This.

Seems insane to me. But that "new" aesthetic seems to be what a lot of the jaded Rust Belt refugees are looking for. Legacy architecture (heck, architecture in general) and the urban context are ugly to them.

I hadn't been to Syracuse in a couple of years and don't see Syracuse as a whole lot different than many other cities in flux. There are lots of good restaurants, nice areas, areas in decline, and quick access to an amazing array of cool places. It's not really growing but it's not shrinking much either. It's not within my definition of a dump.

As for the dome, I love how close I always feel to the field. I remember being at the superdome in New Orleans with Texanmark. I was one of 1000 people in a 90,000 seat stadium. Weird day and much more of a dump than SU's dome. I haven't been to a lot of other college stadiums, but think the dome is well suited for SU. It's not huge, right on campus, has the same footprint as Archbold, is historic in its own way, and a great place to watch a game. It needs to be upgraded and is in the midst of that major endeavor. It's not a dump. I look forward to the rest of the games I'll get to see from 302.

I do enjoy having Clemson at the dome. We've been competitive under Dino and really hope that continues. Their visiting fans have largely been a pleasure to hang out with for a day. It's been a great event. Best wishes to them in every game except against SU.

This comment belongs on Syracuse.com. You know, the articles about snow where ex-pats make a comment about how much better their lives are now in whatever Sun Belt town, yet they're still reading the Syracuse news.

Are you going to be there at the tailgate this Saturday, might actually be able to catch up!

Totally agree. As an ex-Syracusan who lives outside of Atlanta I can understand that. Everything is new here but it does miss the charm of the older architecture in Syracuse. Love coming home to visit. Now, if one was to wander across 81 from the campus to the near west-side, that area isn't exactly a utopia. But every city has its' 'questionable' areas.
