Found this interesting

A lot of people, particularly from the south think that buildings and neighborhoods that aren't new and interchangeable are dumpy. I prefer variety of architecture and restaurants that aren't chains. I worked in midtown Manhattan for 20 years. It amazed me how many tourists flocked to the TGIFs or other national chains for lunch and drinks, leaving the great little restaurants and bars to the locals.
When my family travels, we try to stay in an Airbnb and eat where the locals eat.
To each their own, I guess.
Great point. Franchises are like I-81. While the concept sounded good back in the day, franchises rely on 'efficiencies' like cookie-cutter layouts and low-wage jobs to push out local businesses. Profits fly out of town, and all that's left is the litter.

Are you going to be there at the tailgate this Saturday, might actually be able to catch up!
Yep, I'll be there. Any thoughts on when the tailgate will start? I'm hoping my daughter from Virginia will come up, too. She's been to a couple of football games and a basketball game at the dome. She's coming up for either WMU or HC.

I find it interesting that anyone would call the Dome a dump. When I went to the Clemson game at Clemson a few years ago, it was no more impressive, aside from their big screen. It's made to look great on TV but ultimately is an old structure that looks that way from anywhere other than the stands. Their bathrooms were ancient and vending areas were old. Having said all that, I didn't think it was a dump. It was probably like most stadiums outside of brand new professional facilities.

Clemson's stadium opened on September 19, 1942. It, like the Dome, is well maintained. And not a dump.

I think it's just the endless concrete, dim lighting and tight concourses that gives it a bleak and depressing vibe for some people.

Exactly. Unless colleges are going to build billion dollar stadiums like the NFL, I imagine most fall in the same category. I think they're dressed up to look good on TV. Homefully, once we no longer need our building to be an air tight vault, we'll have the chance to dress it up a bit.
