Fran Brown, Syracuse Football New Head Coach, Official Announcement

Nunzio is interviewing for other jobs he's not recruiting for Syracuse Football. We have a new coach who's going to be learning on the job as it is. If it was a HC, or even a coordinator, I could possibly understand, but not a position coach who has Muschamp and Smart himself coaching the secondary. I don't see many serious programs hiring a HC but have to wait for him to start so he can coach another teams game. I can care less what people think, it is what it is.

Well, don't you think Brown has talked to a few of the coaches about staying, or just for bowl prep purposes and getting to know the players? I don't feel like this is a guy who needs to completely clean house. I think keeping 2 or 3 coaches is good for continuity.

I hear what you're saying, but he probably already has a list of guys in his head from who he has recruited, and who he has coached, and there are other coaches on the staff, but I imagine you're right, they're missing a week of recruiting here right before the portal opens. But if we still wind up in the low 40s in the national rankings of incoming classes, will it really matter? That's still better than we've done in a long time.
We have a legacy recruit from E Hall, Caden Brown, who apparently wants to take an OV. Early signing period is 12/20 for 72 hours. Also, the transfer portal opens 12/4 for 30 days. For a HC who is going to have an enormous learning curve for a program very unlike Georgia, I would want the guy I hired to start right away and be 100% invested. These dates matter.

It's a week. We'll live. It takes time to sort out a staff. He's been working to retain players, from what I've been reading in a couple places. He'll be in place the day the portal opens.
Imagine Clemson, FSU, UNC saying it's just a week. These are the schools we play against we have to act like we belong.

Fwiw I feel like not abandoning your kids at the drop of a hat is a positive thing and speaks positively to his character.
So is he bringing all the kids he recruited to Georgia because that would be sweet!

That's kind of where I am. A position coach and dates we're facing are the reasons. That said, I'm happy with his hiring and the decision to wait a week will soon be forgotten.

I've seen names floated for staff positions under FB, and all four are available to start as soon as they get the ok.

Addazzio
Pierre
Patridge
Acosta

Add in possible hires (already on staff), AD support, and possible names (Robinson, Underwood), I think we will be happy come 12/16.

Today is technically the first day of contact and coaches start hitting it up at 12a

Let's see what transpires next few days

You’re making an assumption that he’s doing nothing related to SU.
No, I specifically said not 100% invested as the Syracuse Football HC at this crucial time.

I believe early signing period is 12/20 - 12/23 this season. By my count that is 3 weekends to host recruits. One weekend is now wasted. Not to mention evaluating the talent on the current team for when he wants to trim some fat. I can't imagine how many hours head coaches (Especially those going to a bowl) are putting in this week. It would have been nice to get the new HC who is going to have a high learning curve to begin with, here, and preparing for the portal opening, recruiting, and evaluating the current roster in person.

Yeah we need someone to take reigns ASAP. I'm fine with this weekend but beyond that he needs to be all in at Syracuse after imo.
Yep and to be honest he really has 2 jobs right now so I expect him to be working overtime (I am sure he is) making calls to coaches, reviewing the roster, targets for Syracuse etc. Georgia during the day and SU stuff at night.

Im sure he is already working on his SU staff and who we can recruit. u guys dont think he can do both . Come on. he is burning the midnight oil getting shiiit done. i would say have faith but im over that saying lol

Technically, Georgia could hold him until Feb. 1. Assistant coaches salaries goes to Feb. 1. Be thankful he’s starting next Monday.
Thats not necessarily true. Who knows what’s in his contract? And who knows what the recourse is if he just decides to break it.

I understand your point but Caden Brown is only interested in coming to visit now that Fran Brown is the HC. So he'll wait for him to be up in here. You're argument is kind of silly tbh and I think an overreaction.

None of the current Cuse commits have said anything about decommitting. Portal opens Monday which is when Brown starts.

I know Fran will be his own man, but does anyone know what kind of access the public and or media gets at Georgia practices and throughout the off season? I'm assuming you can't get more locked down than what Dino did, and I don't expect him to open practice wide open, but a bit more info would go a long way of keeping people engaged with the team throughout the off season.
Kirby Smart puts a muzzle on his asst coaches too. Almost no interviews with Brown from what I’ve been able to find.

It’s clear he is going to be starting full time 12/3. The clear reason the press conference is 12/4. Probably already has a very short list for assistant coaches. He may have already extended offers and contacts are being complicated. He has been coaching and recruiting for years. He is fully aware of a number of players that are already hitting the portal. I remember reading somewhere where he indicated no one was going to out work him. I believe this to be true. He is clearly pulling double duty this week but I believe he is spending a lot of time on su business and has already hit the ground running.
I know it’s been really hard for a lot of us over the last 20 years but some people on here really need to RELAX.

Part of the reason I don't care that he's working at Georgia longer is that the first year is never put together the way the new coaches like.

There is no way marrone wanted to run a bubble screen fest with rob Spence but what could he do, he needed to put someone in. Then you spend that year getting your ducks in a row.

You don't end up with Pariani as a coordinator if there are lots of options

Next year is going to stink and that's not a criticism of anyone, it's just what we should reasonably expect from hiring someone who can't bring his whole staff along. As long as the decision was made knowing that tradeoff...

It's a valid question. We just hired a DB coach that is also assisted by Kirby Smart himself as head coach of our prograam. Obviously 12/4 is a huge date. I would have expected him to start right away. I don't recall many other situations where assistants, let alone positions coaches were hired as a HC, yet we have to wait until Georgia plays in their championship game. I'm sure people will say he's doing both jobs, but this time period is vital that he is putting together a staff and working the freaking portal. I can't believe Wildhack would agree to this. Come at me all you want but it's BS we hired a HC who isn't 100% invested during a crucial time.
You make the best long term coaching decision you can make not necessarily what works best over the first week
