Totally get it. Information we’ll never know is how hot of a commodity for a HC job is Fran Brown, really?

Are we competing against ourselves? Seems like that might be the case.

Idk. Either one I guess but I’m torn with either one lol

I get it, I really do. No one wants to rely on candidates that are imperfect (even if they may end up awesome).

I do think with Chesney that people will get behind him quickly because of his charisma. I don't know much about Fran outside of that he's the terminator on the recruiting trail.

Yeah I could sell either one.

No more Dino-level secrecy either. Be energetic and get people excited/involved. Let’s win 9 next year

I trust JW and the search firm will find (or have found) the right guy. They do have to move quickly though. As sutomcat mentioned there is no perfect realistic candidate. I hope we can get the guy who can stock our QB room with winners and play smart, disciplined football.

How much recruiting are HC’s doing. This would be an absolutely terrible hire that goes against most of what Wildhack said he is looking for at Cuse. Not to mention 12/4 is creeping here ever so quickly. If this is the hire this makes me think we either missed out on our top 4-5 guys or we couldn’t come up with the requirements for one. So many questions. Why wasn’t he named DC at Rutgers? Just because he can recruit doesn’t mean he can manage a team.
Excellent post and why most coaches have to prove it at a lower level first, big jump in leadership and responsibility.

I agree with you but we are never going to be able to out coach or scheme the talent/depth differential….we have to start there and build a game ready staff. This guy has stood next to Kirby Smart on the sidelines and team meetings…I’m sure he has a plan. But football is moving to younger, unproven analytics driven player friendly coaches. The days of Bill Belicheck are dead
Sure. I'm just saying we can't have one or the other. Even factories that get all the talent they want underachieve with poor coaching.

Agree with this and hopeful they have a process, if plan A does not work plan B does. Talent on the field is the key If we can retain players and bring in a few QB, like our chances next year to succeed.

If Brown brought in Addazzio as AHC/OL would that help ease things? I don't love the Dazzler, but he has experience coaching in the ACC and while mostly mediocre, might help?

If we can get Addazio, wouldn't it make sense to take Chesney then?

Chesney has a foot in the door in Northeastern, Florida, and Texas High Schools. We just don't know if he can close the deal. With Addazio and Nunzio, we don't have to worry about that as much.

Chesney doesn't have P5 experience. Addazio helps address that, plus a familiarity with the ACC.

Addazio would help Brown with the OL and how to run a program. But he doesn't help with OC, DC, STC. We would still be lacking there.

I think that Addazio would be an asset to literally any hire we make…

but I think a huge part of the interview process for any candidate has to be potential staff members that would be brought in to support. it should (I believe would) be a huge part of the ”tie breaker” process between comparable candidates. Unfortunately for those of us on message boards, we have no ideas what those will be, and never will. Subsequently that leaves us arguing in circles and with no true way to differentiate the imperfect candidates in front of us.

First one, I don't think any of us know most anything for sure.

I think I was the one who first speculated Brown, if hired as the SU HC, would reach out to Addazio (who just got pink slipped).

This is because Addazio was the HC who first took a chance on Fran and gave him a job at Temple. I believe Steve is Fran's mentor and if Fran gets his first HC job, he would almost certainly reach out to Steve for help building a staff. As you have pointed out, Steve has a lot of experience coaching in the ACC, and has a really good rep as an OL coach. The Dazzler is a logical hire for Frank.

I don't think Steve has any relationship with Chesney. Not sure he would be interested in coming in as an OL coach for Bob and helping him take this big step in his career. Maybe. But it wouldn't be the same as helping one of his own coaches and I don't think it is a given.

Agreed, one of the problems with hiring Fran is how he would fill out his staff. Young coaches don't have the network of coaches they have worked with that they can leverage. And for Fran, the coaches he is working with now at Georgia are so highly regarded and highly paid it will be really hard to get any of them to follow him to Syracuse.

Fran might be best served trying to retain a substantial part of the SU coaching staff. Certainly Nunzio but maybe the whole defensive staff, assuming they would be willing to stay. Probably some of the offensive staff too besides Nunzio. Sounds like Coach Beck is already gone, or all but gone. He might already have a job lined up elsewhere.

Time is of the essence. Good available assistants are being locked up quickly. I don't envy JW. He has a big decision to make and he really needs to make it ASAP.

In theory yes, usually does not work Iike this as the HC usually has his team or picks them. Perhaps SU asks a few coaches to stay on tho help with integration and keep the players/ recruits. Maybe Fisher and Nunz?

Brown, Nunzio, Beck, Addazio, that would be a good start on offense.Beck can recruit in Georgia, South Carolina, DMV, Brown, and Nunzio have northeast covered. Brown must know some defensive guys.
That would be worth taking a chance.
Run a power spread offense, those are the type of players we can recruit.

I hate to say that this might actually be happening and I absolutely HATE it.

He's never going to get us the top guys in Jersey, and his two hires for coordinators HAVE to be spot on.

Literally a worst case scenario in my mind and Wildhack needs to go if this happens.

EDIT: I don't 100% trust the person I'm hearing this from, they've been wrong before.
Upon further discussion, I don't think this is as far along as I was led to believe and he's more "one of the interviews" than "done deal".

If you had to guess, how many days away are we from having a new coach?

Is it safe to say that Syracuse interviewed: Dan Mullen, Bob Chesney, Fran Brown, anyone else?

I cannot make an educated guess. None of what I've heard has come from the SU side of things.
