Syracuse is hiring the top recruiter in the nation who has seen a championship team built from the ground up. He has deep roots in the region and high level Power 5 experience.

And he will probably come in closer to 3 mill than 4, allowing us to spend on a top OC and DC

The more I read on this guy the more of a home run this feels like.
From the ground up? They already made 2 championships and won a championship the year before he got there. That’s a finished product.

Syracuse targets Fran Brown: Georgia DB coach, ace recruiter emerges as new favorite for Orange, per report

Brown is a New Jersey native with past experience at Rutgers and Temple

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: NOV 19 Georgia at Kentucky

I've been following this board for years. You post often, most of it's nonsense.

Really I'm done, be happy with Fran idgaf . I don't see it, and think it will be a disaster, and I'm darn sick of this team being a joke. Marrone was by far our best coach, and was probably the worst recruiter.

Nor does being a HC at a different level of football
Being a head coach at any level means you have overseen a program and come in with a baseline of understanding on the ins and outs of it.

Plus, the freaking AD gave criteria that don't even remotely fit to this guy's credentials.

My guess is he completely whiffed with the other top candidates. Otherwise, this move makes no sense.

This move makes a ton of sense.

We need an injection of talent.

One could argue that there isn't a coach in the country better suited to mine the portal the next 3-4 years.

To be one of the nations best recruiters, you have to be one heck of a speaker.
youthful energy and excitement, I suspect he will be an exceptional speech giver and know how to fire up the fan base and the players excited behind the scenes.

it will be nice to pull someone from an elite program that is currently winning and have him walk in the door and say “we are doing it this way, because I’ve watched it win National Championships”

that said he definitely needs to get his coordinators and AHC hires correct. He will need lots of support in those areas. Hopefully all the supposed money in the pot we were getting for Mullen will still be available for Brown’s staff. We need to help him build an elite support network while he learns on the job. Assuming of course he is tabbed to be the guy

Unfortunately though said talent goes to the highest bidder in a lot of circumstances. Not sure we can ever offer that.

This is like hiring Nick Monroe to be head coach.
Yeah, except they are different people? You’re like “position coach / good recruiter = auto failure” and I’m just saying like pump the brakes

So what? Babers had a lot of HC exp and was a terrible HC…

And that criteria isn’t what JW said…

Why are Bob Chesney and Jason Candle so great? Other than them being HC’s and winners at lower level programs where they have distinct advantages to their peers?
Holy Cross was perennially bad, so Chesney would clearly be more qualified. Jason Candle will probably win the MAC championship. This guy isn't even a coordinator . . . in fact, he's never been a coordinator. Now he's going to be the head coach? We can file that under very risky.

I'm going to give him a chance, but this I think it's fair to be a bit skeptical.

As an aside, I was the leading scorer on a flag football team in college, and I played touch football in law school. Maybe I should have applied? You miss 100% of the shots you don't take, I guess.

Brown has been an AHC, and co-DC.

Also - JW did leave himself a little wiggle room re: coordinators.

I disagree fundamentally. We have had enough talent to compete against peer institutions. People have said this is not a "blow it up" situation. Which means we have players. We should have won 8 games this year.

Do we have all of the players? No. But SU football has NEVER, in my 30 years of watching them, had enough players at all levels. Even during he glory years with McNabb, our OL and DL players weren't all that great. We had many holes.

Co-DC at Temple, a non P5. And the only reason he had AHC is because they wanted to give him more money for recruiting - similar to what we did with Nick Monroe.

He was at 2 programs for a total of 2 years. That’s not a lot of HC experience. That’s a cup of coffee. And should have been more alarming at the time that he was building off others success. That’s the thing about Chesney. He at least has been at programs for a while and built them into what they are. He didn’t ride anyone’s coattails.
