Frank Howard

This attitude from Frank's dad is, in my mind, the top reason for Frank's success. If only all athlete's parents felt this way...

Frank's dad came across as a fantastic role model. I remember last year there was an article about the players families following the team during the NCAA and he came across very likable then also. Hopefully Frank ends his career with his best season yet.

His dad is great. Met him in Houston at the final four initially pregame and chatted about 10-15 minutes with him (he was actually trying to get us to sit w him in the family section lol). Have ran into him about 4 or 5 times since at road games and has recognized me and remembers my name each time. Super vocal and positive voice right behind the bench every game. He’s the guy standing there screaming for the team to pick it up even during the tough times of frank’s sophomore season and was never down or negative at all (at least publicly). Great influence and I’m sure instrumental in frank’s maturity and development.

By 2020 we’ll be mentioning frank alongside mcw and ennis, not scoop and hart. Nothing against those two contributing orange alum, frank’s much more talented imo.

Much more talented than Hart?? Better shooter. But Hart, for all his frustrations...that guy was a great athlete and incredibly fast and as good of a defender as we’ve ever had.

Howard, 31%. Hart, 32%. Easy fact check

Good point. Can’t give Frank that one yet, I guess.

To me his stroke looks better and I expect a 35-38% season out of him from 3 this year. But he’s gotta do it.

Honestly forgot he was only 31% last year, was thinking he was like he was 33-34%.

But yeah, Hart was a 4 year starter. And while he turned the ball over too much too(and missed too many layups), you felt like he could go by people as well. Frank...not really.

Frank has shown court vision and an improved stroke. I’m hoping for a good shooting version of senior Z Sims this year.

He shot 38% in ACC play. He was miserable in the non conference.

31% is Frank's career, to date. Give J Hart a guy like Battle to play off of instead of Janulis, and I bet he would have had a better %.

Donna is a great writer. She puts out a lot of good pieces like this.

Yeah she wrote a really good feature without getting too sappy or overly effusive in praise for the player (I.e. making frank look like Isaiah Thomas). It’s hard to do that. She did it beautifully here.

Syracuse career only:

1) Hart
2) Scoop
3) MCW
4) Frank
5) Ennis

MCW & Ennis only have one year of making an impact at SU. Frank too, but will have two pending this season. People romanticize Ennis’ tenure because of the unreal start, but he really struggled at the end of the year and we were bounced by Dayton in the 2nd round.

If Frank has a great year and helps lead team to Final Four, could pass MCW. But Hart & Scoop had much bigger impacts on the program IMO.

Not sure who I’d comp frank to but Hart seems interesting to me in that they’re both long, solid defensively, competent but unspectacular scorers and guys who improved significantly over the course of four years.

Agree that Hart was better at beating his man but I think frank is a significantly more creative passer.

My thought is the shooting will improve and I think he can improve defensively as well. Don’t think we’ll see Frank as a super-efficient PG with a tight handle, but we don’t need that per se. just continue to make plays, lead, defend and knock down shots. That’s a really, really good player. It becomes a great player if we are better around him and the whole offense functions better than the frank and thus do everything show for much of last year.

Probably b/c he would have had some cleaner looks. At the end of the day the point is moot b/c for both Hart and Howard, the value lies in the all-around contributions.

I’d have to think about how I’d rank them but it should be noted that frank averaged double-figures in minutes (or close to double figures minutes) in a final four run as a frosh. That’s not the end all, be all, but it’s no joke either.

I tend to value the PGs who lead us to tournament wins. That team with Ennis had a 25 - 0 start, but was upset in the first round of the ACC tournament, and was upset in the 2nd round by an 11 seed. Took the luster off the early season wins.
Frank needs a strong March -- and why not?
