Free Concessions

none of the reasons for bad hot dogs are valid. If space is an issue go from grilled to steamed or boiled. and no reason the rolls can't be fresh. Burgers are harder , but again you can make them and bring them in and keep them hot. You can precook and microwave them in need be.

Or the fact that the soft pretzel is harder than most concrete

Or that they run out of food and drinks at multiple games.

That’s the issue here.

One thing I learned in marketing class for my MBA - free basically never works out for the supplier. It seldom works out for the buyer either.

Hopefully when this turns into a disaster, the dopes who pushed for it get fired for incompetence.
(If I have to guess the mechanism of how this fails, they'll have really slow lines for concessions so time is the cost instead of money...if you want a soda for your kid, prepare to miss 15 minutes plus of game time).
The book Predictably Irrational has a fascinating study on the power of “free”. Great book.

They just don't care about the quality, or it wouldn't be literally the worst arena food ever. To blame it on the concessionaire who the university hired is also lame. It's a contract, and it's a terrible product. Just give the contract to somebody else.

I hate that Syracuse continues to accept the horrible food choices.

Everytime I get a survey I comment on how awful the food concessions are. Its almost like whoever reads the surveys for the concessions is not reading them/does not care about the feedback.

I think you could almost argue that they think people are complaining just to complain.

However, people are not. We deserve better. As sutomcat said, we have the worst concessions in the ACC at football/basketball and quite frankly it is not even close.
Strange how the most problematic departments - parking and food service I'm talking to you - are able to remain in the shadows and avoid criticism year after year. This is a U leadership issue in desperate need of sunlight. It's not the AD's "fault", but JH has the clout to call these people out. Bring them to a 'Cuse Council meeting and let them explain why they continue to fail expectations and avoid reform. "West Stadiium" is a perfect example - unfair and unnecessary. Another is the poor food quality and limited choices that continue to drag down the amazing physical improvements in the Dome. Why make such a huge investment in coaching and facilities and ignore obvious and persistent problems with parking and food? Thank god for the Fine Mess .. hopefully we can get in the Lot.

Actually I can.

He has a track record of poor concessions.

He was in charge of Lakeview for a few years. The concessions there were absolutely god awful. He left 3 years ago.

Guess what has been remarkably improved the last few years at Lakeview??? You guessed it concessions.

He also was the one responsible for removing draft beer and for getting rid of fountain soda.

He is the one responsible for switching to the rock hard pretzel as well and the one in charge of shutting down food stands when they run out of food because he mis inventories for games.

My sources tell me he's a huge fan of my work here.

they want an easy fix. figure out how to expand the footprint into the dome/security and use that to create food prep that people can get out and in to eat. the north side would work if you had people scanned in outside the dome. Then you could create food spots for things they struggle to make inside. even if it was food truck related. you could do much the same on the SE corner now that people have the new area to enter into. Then people on most games could go thru the old outside doors and grab other things during a game or take them in before a game. That would also spread more people out of the concourse congest areas. Much like the new space they created is doing. Its just the quad experience expanded.

The nachos grande, double cheese extra jalapeños is elite. And I’m not joking. It’s the first thing I do when I get to the dome. I’ll treat next time to change your mind
They finally somewhat reverted back to the old dome nachos. For awhile it was a travesty, relatively speaking of course.

If I eat anything it’s almost exclusively nachos.

The Cost of Zero Cost - totally agree it is incredibly powerful. That’s why lots of businesses try to use it…but it’s gotta be a well thought out business plan. It very rarely is.

Any book which debunks the notion that people are rational is like crack to me. I’ve accepted it’s one of my irrational obsessions.

Drugs are bad.

BL: nothing will change, if nothing changes

There has been some positives...I love the grab n go as I just need a drink or two during games. However, a new look at doing things hot food wise is needed.

Parking and Food Service are protected by the same umbrella that hoops S&C is.

This is in fact the one good item. The sad part is, they got rid of it for a bit. They brought them back to how they were but to say it was a struggle and a all out battle to get them back, is an understatement.
