Free Concessions

Maybe just to add my voice- Dome concessions commit the twin cardinal sins of being both overpriced and lousy quality. I’ve been to plenty of other stadiums and entertainment venues- what we get relative to cost is embarrassing. you get tired of spending $15 for chicken tenders that taste like rubber and fries that are similar to eating plastic straws. Using this example because it’s literally the only thing up there that I can get my child to eat at a game.

if Basketball goes 26-5 this year I’ll care less, to be candid. But more broadly in an era of declining attendance nationally doesn’t it make sense for amenities to at least contribute to the experience, not detract from it?

SU should contract with Tully’s for their chicken tenders. I hadn’t eaten at Tully’s in years and stopped earlier this week and their tenders were excellent.

Agree with the sentiment here. I was back in town for the Georgia Tech game last season to show my support for Coach Fran. My first game at the dome since 1998. I brought my brother-in-law with me who also lives here in St. Louis. He a Mizzou grad and a big SEC-homer type.

I was excited to show off the renovated dome to him (and see it myself for the first time). The dome looked fantastic, they did a great job. The food quality / options were off the mark. My brother-in-law did admit the Dome was beautiful but was busting my chops about the food.

The Pulled Pork Sandwich in Miron Victory Court was decent as I remember it . Didn’t get a chance to eat before football game and bought one ( I don’t buy food at Dome as a rule) last fall .

The question is, how much revenue is Syracuse missing out on because many people have commented "Well because the food is poor, I do not eat in the dome, etc"

This needs to be viewed through a different lens. Because this should NOT be the attitude. It should not be that you need to eat as much possible before an event so I do not have to buy dome food because it is so awful.

P.S. this is not a direct comeback at you, just a general one because I have heard this sentiment about a rule of not eating in the Dome etc.

To be honest , my comment was superficial and only a food review.

They wouldn't be able to produce them in the Dome, they would probably be worse than the chicken tenders there now.

Please, inform me why they wouldn’t be able produce them in the dome?

Previously they weren’t allowed fryers in the dome but that was with the old roof.

With the new roof, they have fryers in the dome.

OPTIONS:
Shut down all the awful food made inside the Dome - no room to make it and Fire the Concessionaire - doesn't know what he's doing. Hire someone who knows how to market food.
Water, soda, beer only./ OR water and soda only. Alcohol, food, beer, wine in Club 44 only.
Surround the Dome with Food Trucks / local restaurant stands that make quality food.
Use the place where the food was to sell SU/ACC merchandise

20 home games in basketball season, and they must be leaving millions of dollars on the table.

What about that empty lounge area? Put concessions in there.

What a novel idea.

All concession stands, like restaurants, make a huge profit on each fountain drink. So any stadium or gym not filling all the time should consider at least giving free 'cokes' with any concession purchase.

Lagniappe works. Not to the tune of 30K extra fans, even if it is all free concessions. But works inn that it helps nudge a few and builds good will.

I have been to virtually every ACC venue and I can say without equivocation, the JMA Dome has the worst concessions in the ACC. It isn’t even close. The menu is extremely limited, and the quality is very poor.
Unless it has changed very recently, Cameron's is worse than most HS courts for concessions.

I’d rather see someone run some numbers first - because if the cost of the food and drinks fully offsets or is greater than ticket cost, it’s obviously a bad deal. And the fans you enticed by giving them free food will almost all disappear if that gets eliminated because attendance is near capacity - and you’re effectively starting over. There’s almost no way in the world this is a good idea - I think if we saw whatever financial analysis they’d done to support this plan, we’d find a whole bunch of dubious or flat out obviously wrong assumptions built in.

Free fountain drinks with food purchases would probably be a good idea - you can build the minimal cost of drinks into the food costs, few will complain a $5 hot dog is now $5.50.

I have been to many away football venues, I personally don’t remember any concessions that were all that great. ( BC, Pitt, PSU, UVa, USF, WF, NC State , UNC , UB , Ohio, Akron, Louisville, UConn, Md, UNLV, and others )

I enjoyed a turkey leg at Lane Stadium in 2023. It made my walk back to the car mid-third quarter more bearable.

Been there, done that , but not at Lane .

The need for people to go out to the concourse and just stand does hinder things. Not sure why standing and talking in the concourse is better than standing and talking at your seat.

Put good food vendors out there, along with high top tables.
