FSU Postgame

I said in the game thread, the only way we lose the game is if Red takes the ball out of Eddie's hands and puts it in JJ's and that is almost what happened. It isn't about the points JJ scored, it is about all the bonehead plays and missed FTs that come with it. We dominated them in the first half because we killed them inside, we went away from that in the 2nd and played their game and let them back in. Bad coaching.

I really thought I could get through a Syracuse game without feeling a need to throw something at the television. 14 points up with 12 minutes to go and the team looking great on both ends of the court. Then 6 minutes without a point!! Missed FT after missed FT. 2-14 from 3. 8-18 from the FT line at one point. Hard to win when you do that but we did. Thanks to JJ who excelled in the 2nd half. Will be interesting to see what the team has left in the tank tomorrow night. The season continues!

I really liked the clever things the pep band was chanting during the opponent’s free throws. It didn’t change any shots but it was funny. One thing I noticed when I went to my only FF in 2013 is that every school had a distinctive “thing.” We didn’t. I hope they keep this up next year.

No matter how down, crappy & frustrating this season has been… a Syracuse win in a March Tournament setting always feels good. Glad we dug it out. I’m far from a JJ stan, but he absolutely came through when they switched on D & he attacked the basket on the left. Also, it’s nice to have Lampkin & Davis banging around on the boards, haha it’s just so un-Syracuse like.

I thought the man defense was solid, FSU had the off arm/chicken wings out all night & only got that one call for Carlos on the offensive foul.

On to the next!

To be fair they were taking Eddie away the 2nd half.Id have to see the 2nd half tape but it looked like he just couldn’t get a good spot to get the ball.

Red had to play Petar in the 2nd half because of Florida State's size, and how physical the game was allowed to be. That's also why Naheem got a run out in the 2nd half, which almost never happens. Davis had such a good game, because we gave him multiple blows on the bench.

Through the first 28 minutes of the game, it was the best defense we played all year. Guys were fighting through screens, switching, pressing out and not letting players get to the rim. That intensity has been missing most of the year. If you were tuning into the game as a casual observer, you would think Syracuse was a good defensive team.

I really wonder what our record would be if we played with that intensity on defense all year, and played through Eddie on offense like we have lately?

considering that stat that we dropped seven ACC games with second half leads, I have to believe we could’ve won five and had a 12 and 8 ACC team, and maybe beat Texas or Georgetown or both.

Unfortunately, we didn’t bring it every night and when we did, we didn’t bring it at the end of the games. We were physically capable, but not mentally.

Just think if Red could of gotten them to play with energy and hustle like they did for 75% of the game we would of finished above .500 , but that’s where the problem lies. No direction, and no guidance.

I think Davis should have been in the game more; or do you think is not in shape?

Where are all the posters that don't want JJ on the team next year?

JJ would be good to have back, but we need a couple dependable shooters, a really good PG and a really good Center. JJ was good tonight because we were good inside, and that opened things up for him, drew the defenders' bigs to Eddie and the Bruiser.

No, not at all. What did they say, Florida State is the 2nd biggest team in the NCAA? That's why he needed breathers. It was like a heavyweight fight out there.

I have been critical of JJ iso ball. Today it worked. I hope we build a lead every game and it works every game. If not, I hope we are quick to recognize it isn't working and go to something else.
