FSU vs The ACC

The SEC HQ is in Birmingham.
Ah that’s right relocated there in 2011. Atlanta still would be bad IMHO. Would make more sense further up the eastern seaboard.

There is no other good place on the eastern seaboard. Baltimore, DC, Philadelphia, New York, Boston are all bad choices.

That should have been done when they brought Pitt, Syracuse and then Louisville into the conference.
Atlanta would have been a better choice then being in North Carolina.

Puhleeze.
In a few years Charlotte will be the equal, even perhaps the better of Atlanta.
Huge growth in the time I've been here, and if you fall in love w/ the CLT, you stay loyal. It's not just some podunk town, and in fact, it's almost too laid back- but that's all changing w/ the transplants coming in from NY, Philly, Jersey, Boston, Indy, Chicago, Ohio, etc.
This native NY'er loves my adopted city of Charlotte- met my wife here, and would recommend it to anyone who asks.

How so? I lived in the Atlanta metro for over a decade. How would it be any better fit? I can tell you quickly why it wouldn’t.

It will work.

Nobody can coach like this guy.

And, he will be very well-funded, meaning he will get talent.

But the mere fact that he chose the ACC tells the college football community and the media distributors that the conference has value and is an entity to be reckoned with
I don't think he will have the impact across the entire conference that you do, but we'll see.

He will impact or has impacted how the conference is viewed from the outside
Only thing that will change the narrative is winning consistently against the SEC and Big10. While it certainly won’t hurt I think the impact will be small and the novelty will wear off if he is less than successful in year 1

I have not heard one person say the conference is better since the announcement. All the talk has been questions about whether he can transition from pro to college: how will he recruit, can he teach his complex concepts to college kids, can he navigate NIL. Will he eventually impact the perception of the conference? We'll see. It's all about winning. Without winning, this will all be a blip that is fast forgotten.

On the same day he signed with UNC, the sec and big whatever released their 2025 football schedule. The national media covered the signing of Coach. I don’t know if it helps; but it made me laugh that the sec and big whatever were second fiddle for a day.

The location of a conference’s HQ means nothing. It’s an office. Like, I can’t even adequately express how inconsequential the location is.

The only thing that matters is having it someplace where there’s good IT folks nearby that can can hired.

Yup. If UNC wins 10 games next season and is competing for an ACC title, then we’ll see.

Otherwise, it’s cool and all, but it doesn’t change the perception of the league.

Having more than one team in the top 10 every season will do that.

In my mind, I see it like George Costanza quitting his job with great enthusiasm on a Friday and then showing up on Monday like nothing happened. FSU is the ACC's Costanza.

Did you just say that you would recommend your wife to anyone who asks? My goodness you are open minded.

You really are missing the point.

Everybody is talking about Belichick coaching - in the ACC.

That’s a good thing.

And every week next fall the football world will be watching Belichick- in the ACC.

Sorry, but you really seem to be a bit of a downer.

I'm not missing the point. I understand what your opinion is. Mine is different. Amongst all of the national sports talk I've watched, nobody, not one person has talked about this being unquestionably impactful for the ACC. People on here are. In the national media so far it is a mixed bag of some that think he'll be successful in college and some question whether he can relate to college players. People on this board are absolutely obsessed with the ACC getting respect and will grasp on to anything they think does that. If he is Saban it will help the ACC. But other teams have to do their part. Bobby Bowden was a legend and when it was only FSU and Clemson, the ACC didn't get much respect. The league has to be more than a 1 or 2 team league regardless of how high profile one of the coaches is. If UNC can be a part of that, then yes, it could be a big deal. Regardless, if the SEC continues to eat the ACC's lunch in head to heads, it will not matter how many superbowls one of their coaches has.

How am I a downer because I'm taking a wait and see approach?

The problem with the ACC is in the 80's and 90's Miami, FSU, Virginia Tech, Syracuse all were good then Shalala deep sixed Miami, we screwed up with Nancy, and Virginia Tech fell. Bobby left FSU, and it's been mostly Clemson since.
If the 4 schools I previously mentioned get their act together, and Pitt, Louisville, and Georgia Tech get where they should be the problem would be solved.
Left out SMU, but they might be great in a couple of years.

Yeah, I agree with a lot of that. From what others have said, our problems preceded Nancy, but she screwed up more while failing to address what had already led to the erosion up to that point. It looks like us and Miami may be starting to pull our weight. SMU may be a sleeping giant that's waking up. Making a run in the playoff would help, but they need to schedule better OOC games early in the season. We need wins against highly ranked OOC teams to change the reputation of the conference. The only team to do that recently was Clemson and they failed at it this year. We (the conference) have opportunities next year to do it. Let's take out Tennessee and do our part.

I agree with a lot of what you and Bob said as well. I'd like to add a few things and see what y'all think.

A few things about the ACC that are different than the SEC/Big10. The ACC schedules home and homes with smaller conference schools which is often taboo with the SEC/Big10 and these are often trap games with little upside. Can't lose to the preverbal directional school.

The SEC/Big 10 have huge state schools which are consumers and dollars for networks and the like. That bring$ a perspective that can be slanted towards those teams and also it's a way to "educate" the neutral viewer, like pushing the chefs special at a restaurant for the undecided/casual patron.

Alumni that are the people talking and pushing a perspective and narrative like they do in politics on networks and the like. There is a extreme bias here and it's incredibly difficult to listen to "experts" when their narrative is slanted.

The phallic issue and big stadiums. I used to battle post on rivals and this was something often brought up. The disrespect for smaller stadiums and using that to determine what is a "real" football program and what is not considered "serious" about football. That goes with facilities as well. this isn't just a fan thing as players as well do this and we did see this in basketball when we filled the Dome with 30k, it's a heck of a selling point. Passion helps and SU fans do help with that with noise in football but overall the conference lacks in this.
