FSU vs The ACC

I agree. But I also think the ACC had better hire some clever, resourceful PR experts to combat the SEC/B1G bias out there. They have to change the narrative on college football.
I think Belichick will help

For people to think otherwise are delusional.

the ACC basically just got Nick Saban in the conference. That's how I see it. Whether it succeeds or fails is irrelevant. Eyeballs are on the ACC now. He's darth vader. People like to see the bad guy.

I'm really excited we have our guy and wouldn't trade him for Belichick ironically enough (and i'm a Patriots guy through and through). But i'm glad the ACC has added personalities to the conference. This is how you get eyeballs.

Winning helps only if it leads to higher payouts from media networks. The issue is the economic gap keeps growing and growing each year. The entire acc is essentially a group of small market teams regardless of brand and where they are because of media payouts.
If we go by media market size, nearly all of the SEC is small markets. They have rabid fan following and have won most of the big games for the last 20 years, so everyone watches them. If someone else were to dominate for a while, much of that attention could shift. Look at basketball. Outside of Kentucky, the media largely ignored the SEC. Now that they have a bunch of teams in the top 10, they're getting the attention we used to get.

Eyeballs are on the ACC, but it remains to be seen if that's good or bad. If he succeeds, it's good. If he flops, ridicule will be amplified.

I assume with what they have to pay " The Hoodie" that will simmer down the talk of paying an exit fee to leave the conference and sending the traditional football powerhouse that is UNC Football to the SEC/Big10.

UNC succeeds: "Belichek is so great that he was even able to make an ACC team look good."

UNC fails: "The ACC is so bad that not even the greatest coach of all time could help them."

The ACC immediately becomes very high profile

That's about right.

I don't think we know that yet. Will this be a blip or sustainable. This isn't the same as Nick Saban going to Alabama. He had already won a NC at LSU before dabbling with the pros and was alot younger. There will be coverage going into the season, but its lifespan will depend on his success.

A few items:

1) Phillips needs to go. His performance on camera leading up to the CFP should get him let go.

2) I will keep saying this until I don't have a voice - they need to move the ACC HQ out of North Carolina.

3) The FSU backtrack is hilarious. Weatherford backtracking is especially hilarious.

4) Apologies if this was posted, but did anyone also see this? Remember when FSU was just going to have PE take care of all their issues?

Wow, you should be an ESPN Football Talking Head

Yikes, that’s really not a good look. One error, ok, chalk it up that he misspoke. Two errors? It shouldn’t be that hard to keep track and discuss two schools and their respective QBs.

It’s Bill Belichick. Arguably the greatest coach in NFL history - choosing to college - in the ACC.

This is a big deal and will get lots and lots of attention. It can’t help but draw greater interest to the ACC and can’t help but give the ACC a decent amount of credibility.

Yes it will bring attention. Success on the field will determine whether that attention is good or bad and how long it is sustained. A lot of people are questioning how well this will work out. NFL success doesn't always translate to college. It's a completely different beast. When Bill Walsh went to Stanford he was still a legend.

Oh man, you just unlocked a core memory. I spent countless hours playing

It will work.

Nobody can coach like this guy.

And, he will be very well-funded, meaning he will get talent.

But the mere fact that he chose the ACC tells the college football community and the media distributors that the conference has value and is an entity to be reckoned with

Wait until Syracuse week when he waxes poetic about the history of the Syracuse football program. Belichick LOVES Jim Brown, Dick Mac, Ivan Fears, Patricia, Coughlin, et al. Our history will be amplified by his enthusiasm for our history.

This is all very good. This is going to be fun for the time he spends there.

This is Belichick talking Mac when he passed away.

And had a high profile opening which the SEC may not have this year.

I look at fsu saying they didn’t ask to leave like Vinny, in MyCousin Vinny, when he says something under his breath and the judge said what did you say and Vinny said what……
In my mind, I see it like George Costanza quitting his job with great enthusiasm on a Friday and then showing up on Monday like nothing happened. FSU is the ACC's Costanza.

I agree but those conferences are also much better. You can attribute it of course to picking the cream of the crop from the P12 but it's not debatable the SEC is better than the ACC. Sad thing is the gap between the two in basketball might be bigger right now than football.

Take Oregon out and the Big Ten is still better. With them it's miles better than the ACC.

Big 12 sucks and ASU went from worst team in the P12 to best team in Big 12. Kind of embarrassing for that league honestly.

7/12 from SEC and Big Ten is a perfectly fine number. I'd prefer 6 and hope it's not 8-9 but that easily happens if Bama and Ole Miss don't lose late.
SEC has proven to me they take all sports differently than most other academic institutions/conferences do. After having watched that documentary on LSU and their NIL adoption, (done by Shaq mind you, since we're talking about PR shills) it was clear to me that they are pretty aggressive paying players or finding donors and opportunities to get NIL deals for athletes in all sports. I believe this is a big reason your basketball statement rings true. The Texas addition was a good one, but Texas is more cyclical than most of the top tier "legacy" SEC programs.

In the B1G, I don't see the P12 additions as factors. Yes Oregon had a great year, but I am not sure they have built a sustained machine the way others have, and are very cyclical like I just said Texas is. That said, I don't think the B1G is head and shoulders above the ACC. I have an admitted "reverse bias" but to me they are historically a 4 team conference with lots of 'also rans and tomato cans'. OSU, UM, and a rotating 'other two' - PSU, Wisconsin, every so often Iowa, in the past, MSU.

I don't think that is much different from me saying "newcomer SMU but - Clemson, FSU, every so often Pitt, VT, Miami and in the past UNC or GT".

The SEC felt they needed a partner conference to ease the expansion and break away process and the B1G was the next biggest in terms of spend and TV revenue, so it made the most sense. That could have been the ACC. I think the shared geographic region may have influenced that decision process.

Charlotte makes all the sense in the world. It’s an American hub in the middle of the footprint. Where should they go?

That should have been done when they brought Pitt, Syracuse and then Louisville into the conference.
Atlanta would have been a better choice then being in North Carolina.

You mean where the SEC is headquartered? Not a good idea.
