FSU vs The ACC

If that ever happens...time to strip tax exempt status from universities since it appears they want to run AAA teams for the NFL and NBA.
What will probably happen, to avoid that exact proposal, is private ownership groups (hello, private equity firms!) would actually own the teams and would pay the universities a rather massive rights fee for the use of the name, logos, facilities, etc. Their fans would still be rooting for the Alabama Crimson Tide in dark red and the Texas Longhorns in burnt orange, but someone will pay annually for the right to call the teams by those names and wear the colors.

I could easily be wrong, but in Mexican soccer, the Universities in Mexico City (Pumas), Nuevo Laredo (Tigres), Tamaulipas (Correcaminos), and Guadalajara (Leones Negros) actually own the teams even though none of the players are students. They started out as teams of students but evolved.

Yeah, what conference needs the best program in modern college basketball? And arguably the best program in college basketball history, considering they’ve won six titles at a time when it’s harder than ever to do it. Those games with UConn against Syracuse, Duke, UNC, Louisville, etc. No one wants to watch that garbage.

Their games against Arizona, Kansas, Baylor, Houston…trash. Obviously there’s nothing there for the big 12. What suckers.
UConn will add very little in revenue via their basketball program. Football drives the revenue side

It's not about revenue now. It's about what we do when FSU and Clemson leave. It seems like you're thinking the world in 2003 instead of 2033.

I think the GOR is keeping both home in the ACC. I also think the SEC and B1G realize they either need to break up or or include several more teams for annual beat downs. The Big dogs in both conferences will not be happy for long with 8 or less wins, let alone with losing records. Even the middle of the pack teams may cause a major stir.

The zero sum gain will affect most of the Big dogs. Even neither conference makes a change, FSU and Clemson, assuming they win,, will realize the easier path to the championship.

They bring a state with money and 3.4million people obsessed with UConn and would pay for a streaming service to watch. Big 12 with UConn, Arizona, Kansas, Houston and Baylor is by far the best conference in college basketball.

And it would be great for our fans to have a rivalry game we actually care about every year.

You guys are really short sighted about UConn. The Big 12 is positioned to be the 3rd conference standing and we better hope to get a lifeline. If/When the ACC falls apart and we see UConn safely in the Big 12 and Rutgers safely in the Big 10 and then we’ll be here lamenting where it all went wrong.

UConn should be in the ACC, and at the very least our admin should publicly and loudly advocate for them to be in the ACC so we might have a friendly advocate for us if we need a life raft.

Edit: their football is also only irrelevant because it’s not in a major conference. If the ACC blows up, our football will be just as irrelevant. UConn in the big 12 means it’s not irrelevant anymore.
What does UConn bring to any league in football? Does it have a stadium of 60K that it regularly fills? Has it ever had a Heisman winner? How many football National Championships can it claim? Does CT produce a lot to talent? Does New England produce a lot of talent. Does border state NY produce a lot of talent? Is the New England/New York region one known for a large number of passionate CFB fans? Does UConn have a hot football rivalry with any school in the ACC? Does UConn have a hot rivalry with any school in 1A (FBS) football? How many years has UConn football finished ranked Top 25 in football?

You want to make certain that all of the most valuable ACC members get active to leave the ACC? One way to start that process is to have schools clamoring to add UConn.

You think football will be worth less in 2033 than in 2003? If so, you are bassackwards.

The ACC cannot to afford to add anyone except for football. To add for football means you add to get as many of the following as possible: school able to average at least 55K per game; in a town, state, region that produces a whole lot of talent; in a town, state, region that is wildly passionate about football; state flagship and/or land grant; school with meaningful football history that is either recent or that in the ACC can be revived fairly easily; that has hot football rivalry with a couple of ACC schools.

UConn aint close to being worth an ACC invite. Cincy is. WVU is.

Cincy averages 38K

Yukon the last few years have averaged 5 to 15k for most FB games.

Bringing in Big12 teams will help but unless they get ranked a huge game will have 25K

Putting everything else aside about UCONN, why would the league want to add another Northeast school in an already weak recruiting region? UCONN doesn’t unlock Texas or Florida for the conference. All it does is make it harder for Syracuse and BC to recruit NE / NY which already isn’t a hot bed for recruiting.

Everyone says this, but then why is there no discussion of Tulane?

They have been fantastic in football the last few years, better than many P4 and every G5 school, and they are never mentioned. It's because while football is a massive piece and probably the biggest, it's not the be all end all. UConn is a sports brand. Tulane is not.

Plus, except for the past 2 years, Tulane went about 20 straight years with no fewer than 6 losses including 2-10 in 2021.

UConn isnt joining the 12 for basketball. They are leveraging bball for Football. The ACC doesnt need another bball school as we are loaded. What we need are solid football schools in the event the two southern fools do leave
Loaded? The B12 was a better bball conference last year and it wasn’t close.

Even if the Big 12 has the best bball league it still doesn't move the revenue formula vs adding good football schools.

Why wouldn’t the conference want to lock down the Northeast instead of letting another conference have a foothold?

I wonder if Jim had a few Irish Whiskeys last night:)
