Future Campus Framework Presentation...

By the way, how disingenuous can the Syracuse.com writers get? 'A partner on the Carrier Dome renovation published potential roof designs and potential project start dates late last week...' but we decided not to prepare and publish a story until a fan message board scooped us. Again.

Walter's Group website is not loading for me. Traffic crash or was this not supposed to be released yet?

I think it is traffic. I have had to wait but got in eventually.

I gotta say...it is all super exciting to finally see some renderings and progress. I recall the first day the dome was inflated I went for a run that passed through Lincoln Park and its round top. I will never forget seeing that view changed so much. It was glorious. I don't run too much any more but I may have to revisit that run again when the roof is up. Things are looking up.

So is this what we're expecting the design structure of the roof to be?

I was originally thinking this is a view from Irving, as you can see a foundation at the base of the facility. But what is the tall building behind the arena then?

That surely has to be the new hotel.

Note that the terrain slopes from right to left. That would also only make sense if this view was looking west, towards I 81.

Looks like they added support columns to the north and south, where the load bearing walls are. You can see an expansion on the northeast corner of the building.

I am assuming they are showing how the eastern wall on and above the 200 and 300 sections will be open to light via the use of EFTE. Cool. Probably won't be able to do it on the west side because of the hotel.

No expansion on the southeastern corner on this drawing, which differs from the other one.

Surprised at the relative flatness of the roof. Looks like they are planning to use EFTE in the triangles formed between the steel, facing north and south. I would think this design would allow snow to pile up...thought EFTE was going to be used a lot more to help encourage the snow to slide off (like in Minneapolis).

Sure looks like they are not planning on expanding the concourses on the north and south sides of the facility. There will be no new concourse on the third level either.

It will be a really strange look with an uber modern roof, some open walls and a huge expanse of drag concrete on the sides. Hope they decide to address this in a phase 2 project down the road.

Seems like it has to be looking West towards the hotel (I-81), which is nestled between the new Law building and the parking garage (?). Maybe a skywalk between the hotel and the ThunderDome?

As far as the North and South where the trees are .. boy I agree, Tom. It seems like there are some missed opportunities along there to open up those concourses. If they could extend past the footprint out between each column and do a 3-story glass/EFTE skylight all along those (North and South) walls ... that would go a long way towards relieving the space issues.

I am hoping that will come in a later phase. Opening up the concourses on the east and west ends of the building will be a big help. There are no bathrooms on either end, which makes for long walks. Particularly bad given most of the events (basketball games) are held on only one side of the facility.

Remember...they might be restructuring the Food Spots...maybe some will move to create more space. I could see the food stations moving under the 3rd deck overhang and remove some bad seating.

Well, do we really want to believe the University that this is not the actual design, or just sour grapes that they weren't the ones to release it?
Personally I think this may be an early design as it doesn't really extend out of the existing footprint on the sides. I had expected it to as a need for expanding the corridors. It also shows the connection to the Arch which I thought I had heard was scrapped.

I heard that, but the cost estimate had work to Arch at $50M ... that's a lot of money if they're not building a connection.

I was sitting there the weekend before last for graduation (niece), and the seating sections are connected with residential door hinges. So maybe something like that is being planned.

Awesome tailgating deck!
I've been to a few Tampa Bay lightning games the past couple years...I would love to copy some of what they have there. They have a huge "patio" area outside the arena for pre game parties with entertainment, and reasonably priced food and drink. Also one game I went to this year, they had a post game party on the Bud Light Party Deck, which is on the third level overlooking that area with a great view of the city. $2 draft beers of Budweiser products. Something like that would be fantastic, especially considering the lack of parking and lack of connected tailgating. Maybe people wouldn't mind staying until the end of the game to have a couple cheap beers while traffic clears out instead of leaving early? :)

It looks like, at least in this mockup, that they're using the same footprint of the dome, so I can't see how they'll get much wider concourses in there.
That would suck. Maybe Sala forgot how tight it is with a large crowd. Huge missed opportunity if they don't open up the north-south sides... and let in natural light with more glass. Not to mention there will probably be wheelchair-only express lanes.

Good grief man. There's all kinds of speculation before and after this post saying the opposite - and yet you pick this one.

I'd be absolutely shocked to see the same congestion issues post reno.
