Game 1 Depth Chart / Game Notes vs Ohio

Aside from the secondary, anyone else feeling great about this depth chart? I did NOT expect Dino to put one out like this, does not seem cookie cutter enough.

positives that stick out:

-Taj will/may be used dynamically, which suggests other receivers have stepped up and earned Dino’s confidence.

-little concerned about the frosh in the two deep of the OL, but my god we’ve got some good size and experience in the trenches.

- RB is faster, bigger and has more shake n bake than we’ve had for a decade.

- DL 2 deep is stout and experienced. That said, we need more of a pass rush.

- LB is oooooozing with talent and potential. If Cantin Arku’s not starting, that means to me that Wax could be big time.

Hopeful is how I would describe it.

If we had more stability on the OL / QB, I would feel much better about the youth, especially on D.

I am SO pumped for our LBs and especially Wax. I can't wait for Duce in the secondary.

I think we can see some flashes of true ACC talent back there, but prob won't have the consistency with how young we are.

hope Alford and Gadsden can make impacts. Taj is not a one.

the ol has legit measurable across the board. now have it translate. No problems with Ilaoa and Ellis being in the two deep.

rb and lb are the two best units on the team.

not sure how stout the dl is. we’ll see.

  • Agree with others-Very surprised Sharod is starting, as he hasn't shown much in his years here. Was expecting Jackson or Alford as the 3rd starter. Happy he's stepping up.
  • Impressive that Lutz held his ground against Howard and Adams-2 good talents in their own right
  • Am happy that Labrosse won the job (though I'm pretty sure we'll also see Simmons on the field quite a bit), as he seems to have a great combo of size, speed, and hands.
  • Interesting to see Orondo on the 2-deep ahead of older guys like Isiah Jones and Javontae Williams. Think we have a lot of talent at WR.
  • Pretty impressive for a True Freshman (Ellis) to make the 2 deep ahead of older guys like Froumy. Ellis was one of my favorite guys in the class and could really power our running game
  • No big surprises on the Defensive Front 7. Believe Cantin-Arku will be like a fourth starter.
  • Will be interesting to see if Hanna can hold up at Rover at 170.

I’m glad to see them move Greenwood from Safety to Corner. I thought he really struggled at Safety.

Biggest shocker to me is Sharod Johnson. A pegged transfer candidate worked himself into the starting outside WR jumping Alford is a big WOW imo.

Taj in the slot. Love it.
WR and OL supposedly upgraded at the coaching position. Let's see how well the new guys assessed the talent and got improvement from their groups.

We're going to get the same depth chart for the whole season.
Completely agree. I would not put to much stock in any depth chart. We know the obvious but dB will not completely show his hand.

Agreed, what gives me hope is how damn good Marlowe and Thompson are. These are potential NFL calibre backers in the future if they progress further.

Secondary’s a concern.
I was under the impression that the secondary, with young but experienced players, was pretty strong?

I don’t think there’s any story. Linton is coming off surgery and Kinsler is a DE. Sparrow could be seen as a surprise at MLB over Arku (who they moved) but Lowery looked like a future stud in spot duty last season.
Kinsler...might need to add 15 more lbs to play

Anyone surprised to see Hanna at Rover? I thought that would maybe be carter or a bigger more physical safety. To me it would seem you want an athletic safety/LB hybrid guy to start there.
Kinda, but its football. Players dont always step up the way you expect them to. If Hanna's the starter its because he's the best there. Some times you keep a guy in because he makes the whole unit perform better collectively despite what physical limitations he may have.

Tisdale starting tells me that Davis isn't physically ready / healthy. Thankfully, Tisdale is a guy who started last year -- so depth pays off.

I seem to recall Sharrod Johnson being talked up by the coaches a couple of years ago, only to have him not really see the field. Hopefully, he's finally actualizing his potential. Need all the help at WR we can get. Hope him being in that top spot on the depth chart indicates that the WR positional unit may be stronger than it seemed to be on paper.

Yeah, two seasons ago he didn't play much but looked like he belonged when he was out there, and last season he looked like he maybe took a step back.
