Game 1 Depth Chart / Game Notes vs Ohio

2019 was worse than those 4-8 seasons due to we just blew all the momentum we had built.
2020 might be one of our worst in a long time.
I do see your point that we did have to bad season before 2018 but they didn't have the same feel as 2019/20 was more my point.

Agree. No excitement in 2019 at all. That Maryland game was the needle on the record.

It was nice to obliterate Duke on their home field in front of dozens. And it was nice to beat Wake in a game where it looked like we let it slip away. But that Wake game was just a save a bit of pride game.

2016 and 2017 you just thought, get a few more reinforcements, stay healthy and this thing can take off. Which it did in 2018. Then Maryland popped the balloon.

If I recall correctly, post game Maryland players and staff said they knew everything we were lining up with on both sides of the ball in advance. They game planned and scouted us to perfection and we were stale and predictable.

Same thing happened vs BC too if I remember right.

Yea I remember that too. If I remember correctly they were accused of “stealing” signals. Not against cuse but against teams later in big ten play. Not an excuse for that game. They looked like they got lost on the way to the game.

Maryland was a terrible game to watch in person.
Hot weather, Maryland’s running game looking like the nations best and Tommy looking lost. If not for the fine mess tailgate might have been a miserable time.

this makes sense, given the outcome and how Maryland has looked since

Correct. I feel like there was one other team that that was mentioned as well.

Anyone surprised to see Hanna at Rover? I thought that would maybe be carter or a bigger more physical safety. To me it would seem you want an athletic safety/LB hybrid guy to start there.
Only 170 is crazy to me. He will get dinged up all year. Impossible not to, especially when you are not 170 and really stocky, like some players.

It was a great tailgate.

And I had so many shots at the postgame bar in Arlington (left just after halftime) that I nearly forgot the game.

Fun day, if you don't count the 2.5 quarters of the football game I attended.

We had a lot of fans there. What a waste that was.

It was the most Locksley thing ever for him to pull it together for one magical weekend against us, and then regress to his sucky mean for the remainder of the year.

Those two wins are the reason that gave me hope and I don't consider those seasons terrible.
2019 and 2020 basically didn't have those hopeful games, sure the Wake win was awesome but not a signature win we had in '16 and '17.
Anyway, we've had some awful seasons, hopefully, 2021 is good.
Dungey did not finish either season. With him we likely find another W or two. Plus in 2016 we scored 61 points in a game with a walk on QB who couldn’t throw it more than 15 yards. When TD starts it takes us 3.125* games to score 61 points.

*not an actual stay but it feels like it

We are going to need to stay fresh this game so the fact that we have a solid 2 deep at most po7 sitions is very encouraging. Hope that we use 6 or 7 oline and go with a solid rotation on D as well. I want to crush these guys and believe that we have the physicality this year to do so.

We're bigger, stronger and faster at majority of positions. If coaches have a proper game plan and have coached kids up to execute we should roll. Only thing that could possibly derail us are penalties and turn overs.

If that was a home game you might be right. I remember a couple were at home.

Prolly was BC. They ran the same running play over and over cause they knew we wouldn't adjust.

I think you nailed it. That's how a power 5 team can usually get a win against a tight game with a non power five. Depth can be the differnce.

Bolinksy looks 45. And if Harper is a captain, I'm guessing Bear isn't playing.
What does Harper’s captaincy have to do with Bear’s availability?
