Gawd this is a ridiculously talented team

I hate to rain on our parade, but how do we know Roberson will be productive? I don't think we do until the season begins. He has such an upside, but we thought Christmas and DaJuan had upsides and would make contributions right away, and turns out they didn't. I am genuinely asking for opinions about this.

I do think we are lucky indeed that Roberson can play, and I can only imagine his relief!

our centers are okay. we have three of them. 15 fouls.

xactly. Aside from Ennis I don't see foul trouble raising any issues. That is- as long as we don't get the dude from the OSU elite eight game too often.

We definitely had reservations about Dajuan and Rak prior to their arrival. While they were somewhat colored with orange to make them a little less concerning, there is very little in terms of concerns about Roberson leading up to his arrival. Kid has the full package from everything I have seen as well as others have mentioned. Now that of course guarantees nothing but I don't see him taking long to make his imprint.

Unfortunately, in some games we might not get much more out of them.
Kieta we know what we have.
The other two have that deadly label of great potential. If Christmas can keep some attitude the whole time he's on the floor, I think a lot of his best game will follow.
Coleman needs to play D at an acceptable level and hold onto basketballs whether they're off the board or a pass to him. A big guy like him should never lose a ball once it's in his hands.

The potential is off the charts.
Definitely best frontcourt in the nation.

:)
Charts are usually on paper... We are also good on paper, we'll see how the chemistry and defense works out but my instincts tell me we are indeed going to be very, very good and I've been following SU BB for a lot of years.

This.

We knew Christmas didn't have much of an offensive game coming in and Coleman's athleticism/weight was always a concern. Roberson has shown the ability to score and, more importantly, looks comfortable with the ball in his hands anywhere on the court. That's not to say I expect him to be overly productive as a Frosh or handle the ball much away from the hoop, but I'm more confident in him than I am in most freshman. His body alone will make him a good defender in the zone and he looks like he likes getting after it on the boards.

There's almost nothing not to like about this kid and his game.

For me the addition of Roberson sures up any possible issuewe could have at either forward spot. He can play either spot because he does a bit of everything. It may take a little time to learn the defense but he has always played hard on defense and rebounded the ball. If whoever we have playing isn't persuing the ball Tyler can always be inserted because its pretty much a garantee he will go after the ball. He could become a major force this year or just a solid reserve who takes a major roll next year but he's ready when we need him IMO. Also this is huge for next season if we were to lose Grant along with CJ graduating we will still have Tyler and BJ with some experinance to go along with McChullough

Guys like CJ and Kjo evolved into SF over time. It takes time to get that 3 point shot down.

I expect Roberson to do the same, but he will have a nice midrange shot that is closer to sophmore CJ's then freshmen CJ I think. Like Grant he has the drive with his head up and he finishes and putbacks well around the rim.Its just a matter of pulling up and hitting that 18 footer. We haven't had 2 midrange specialists on the floor since Hak and Melo, this year we could have 3. Having three midrange specialists on the floor would make any team SCARY good.

one thing that excites me as well with roberson is that coupled with cj and jerami we have 3 forwards with incredibly high defensive work rates. They can all block shots, rebound and close out which really should help alleviate concerns at the 5 spot. As much pop as this group will have at the offensive end- defensively we have hustle and length everywhere. The fact that we frustrated a seasoned carlton with our D makes me feel confident we will do well against the difficult schedule as well. All the pieces are there to be dominant... isnt it time we didnt have a giant pothole to veer us off course for once? We have been building each year going sw 16- e8 - ff- time to raise another title for JB. Oh and hope it involves beating UK's ass in the process. Needless to say we should be right there in the convo again this year. Cant wait !!!

This. I would love this to happen. And if we play them, I believe we will shatter them.

Rak and Dajuan are our best face up dribbling bigs since Warrick. There is alot of potential there, even this year.

Rak has been playing PF. Give him some time to understand the double team coming from opponents centers. Its a different game when the help defense is just as tall as him, and right under the rim.

And Dajuan needs time to evolve and learn how to properly initiate contact in games.

Those aren't things you just learn overnight.

i know the centers take a lot of flak but i wouldn't trade our 3 for any other programs.

Just think about that, 3 centers all servicable each with different strengths. Big guys take a while and I could see Rak or DC2 suddenly just get it at some point this season plus we always have steady dependable Baye.

Are you serious??? Almost every time DC puts the ball on the floor he loses it. Rak might get two dribbles off. These guys should rarely if ever should put the ball on the floor at this stage of the game.
Dejuan does need to learn how to use his size and proper movement. I just hope that he can make some decent strides in that direction before the year is out.
As I said in another post, they both have the deadly title of great potential. We sure all want to see it realized sooner rather than later.

DC2's handle is actually pretty good in space or moving. The problem is he dribbles needlessly in a crowd when he has deep post position. I wasn't aware that Rak had a handle.

Biggest area of concern for this team will be 3 pt shooting. Stacked up front especially at both forward spots. But have to make teams respect the 3 pt shot to balance the floor or they will just pack it in the paint and clog up the driving lanes. If Cooney can't get it done at 2G with a respectable 3 pt %, look for BJ to get more minutes as the season goes on. I think he emerges as the best 3 pt shooter.

BJ will be everything Mookie wasn't.

Orangezoo, I wish you hadn't have said that.

Best forwards, yes. Unfortunately, I think that center is our main concern.

have you seen what the rest of the country has for centers? there are very few that are productive offensively. in fact they are few and far between. I will take our big, , athletic, long, defensive minded centers all day over what the rest of the country has. We have 3 centers who all give you something different. For as much grief as they get 90% of the country would trade with us in a second.

Anyways, back to the OP, add in CJ, and Jerami and we have the best front court in the country

Roberson's motor is ridiculous. He busts his ass on every play at both ends of the floor. Incalculable delta between his HP / torque ratingg and Rak's.

His bball IQ and instincts are by all accounts exceptional.

Contrast the above with Rak, who is an exceptional athlete but IMO has shown little else on the court for us to date.

In toto the solution presents itself.

3 point shooters.

Ennis
Fair
G
Johnson
Patterson.

Mold Johnson into a dominant 3 point shooter now because lord knows in 2 or 3 years he'll be throwing down and athletically superior to everyone.
