Geno Thorpe - COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE

What is with the cocaine Rothstein remark? And there should be interest in the kid. He is a pretty good player.
It was a lighthearted remark because he's always over the top excited about everything.

OrangeX just posted this in the Pitt thread on the main board - could be an indication of them being out of the Geno running - Boykins is a 6'5 SG... or could mean nothing at all

We need another guard, one that can play big minutes at the point if needed. Thorpe fits that bill but is also a combo guard that gives us options and depth in the back court PLUS his ship clears after the season. I really like the way he would fit into what we have and he seems like a really solid person who would be trying to keep the team vibes going rather than rocking the boat. The potential backcourt of Thorpe Battle would seem like a huge win.

Agreed, but we haven't done well with "perfect fits" lately...

THIS.

Ideally, we roll with Thorpe & Battle, w/ Frank Howard Washington backing up both guard spots, as needed.

Actually, even more ideal would be to redshirt Washington, but that's risky only rolling with 3 total guards.

Then land Marek "3 &" D, or Sid Wilson at , and LGO!!!

I don't think we will red-shirt Washington for any reason. If we bring in Thorpe or someone of that caliber to start at the PG spot shooting becomes a big plus for the 3rd guard on the depth charts. Washington is a very good shooter. Plus its iffy to roll with only 3 guards.

You dreamer...:)

He's already visited Seton Hall and Pittsburgh I believe. We need to get him on Campus and hopefully, the visit turns out like Gillon's.

From what I've read though, he won't graduate until June. We're probably going to have to wait a while to hear something.

Honest question and maybe I'm wrong but aren't we better off with Geno Thorpe this year and Carey and another SG like Jones to go with Hughes next year instead of Ayala.

This year probably we would be better with an experienced Thorpe. That said Ayala can play and him coming back as a sophomore in 2018 could be better than an incoming Carey especially because he would be familiar with all the other returning players.

This team has a lot of prospects and potential, but not all potential works out. They need all the possible talent that they can get to mitigate against injuries, poor performance, and other issues. I'd hate to see them burn a scholarship on a walk-on again and then find out in January that they really needed another ACC-level player.

Yes, this for sure!
Boeheim usually only plays 6-7 guys anyways. But like you said you never know what might happen. I would feel so much more comfortable with a full roster. Even if we filled it out with all grad transfers.

Agree 100%. Literally zero downside. Thorpe would singlehandedly:
  • Add an infusion of much-needed shooting
  • Provide proven double figure scoring potential
  • Bolster backcourt depth at both spots
  • Bring experience starting at lead guard
  • Bring multi-year starting experience to lineup
  • Come off the books for 2018, freeing up a scholarship for that important class

Makes total sense but Ayala, being a combo, would give us a lot of versatility at the guard position.

I should've copyrighted "Frank Howard Washington." Woulda, coulda, shoulda.
