Georgia Tech Postgame

Just playing devil's advocate but do we think someone got in Red's ear about Carlos' minutes? just seems like a major change of trust from almost 40 to 10. Not complaining just seemed drastic.

The problem with playing the what-if game is that we just as easily could have lost to LeMoyne, Colgate and Youngstown State.
So true. A wise man named Tuna once eloquently said, "Your record is what your record says you are." Another sport but it applies here same as Mac's "If ifs, ands and buts were candies and nuts, every day would be Christmas."

I feel out of the gate the original plan was to run a backcourt of Carlos/JJ and then the regular season started and everyone including the staff saw how ineffective Carlos was so they started decreasing him minutes. I think if JJ had not gotten hurt then JJ starting at the point would have happened a long time ago but since the injury, Carlos's role actually got elevated instead of decreased.

Now I can argue that every other guard (Moore and Cuffe) is more than capable of performing the basic point guard task Carlos was supplying and he should have been benched anyway but that isn't what you asked :)

My buddy works at the Dome and told me 4775 was the actual turnstile number. I didn't just make that up. ;)
so they announced 13,000 plus, that's paid tix, so almost 10,000 people who bought tix didn't show up, resell or give them away. 10,000 no shows sends a real message, bad weather or not. Historically, people would make it to the Dome no matter the weather.

Red looked pretty down in that presser considering we won. He admitted to hearing the noise. But I bet the crowd surprised him.

You can almost sense he feels how heavy the pressure is
When we can hear the coaches ‘coaching’ there is not a lot of crowd noise.

I shared this pic in the game thread. There’s no way to sugar coat it. That is a crowd we would usually expect for an exhibition.

Assuming Red sticks around, he's gotta let go of the transfer portal ID process to an extent. Carlos was a huge miss as we know and Lampkin is a solid player but not elevating this team really.

Doubly frustrating when you look at a school like St. Bonaventure thriving with a Rochester-native at guard that they signed in the portal.

How Syracuse goes about identifying guys and how they fit needs to be exponentially better.

His minutes were decreasing until JJ got hurt.

Cuffe also got the quick hook yesterday.
I was a little unhappy that Cuffe barely played. He only played 4 minutes but had 2 rebounds and an assist.
He was charged 2 TOs but one is where he was knocked down and stripped of the ball ( and no foul was called). I thought he could have kept the intensity going for at least a few minutes in the second half when it looked like our defense was gassed.
And he is a good driver and foul shooter.
I guess he is back in Siberia again.

My brother had a work thing come up at the last minute, and I couldn't get my car out of the friggin driveway.

Can't speak for everyone, but this was a "weather related" bag for me. Not "W/L related".

The first thing Cuffe should do when entering the game is drive straight to the rim, for either a layup/dunk or create a foul. He should never do what he did last night, immediately brick a 3 point attempt! He cannot shoot. But he sure has proven he can drive hard to the hoop. And with doing that first, maybe that buys him a little more grace from the coaches if/when he does jack up a 3 pointer.

I feel like in terms of capabilities, Cuffe and Louie McCroskey have a lot in common. Not quite good enough handle to play point, not quite good enough shooting to be a 2 guard. At times can show flashes of real offensive talent, but at other times can be maddening. Obviously Kyle doesn't have Louie's drama, and is a couple inches shorter.

Even with JJ back we are still looking at maybe 5 ACC wins. We turn the ball over at an incredibly high rate and can’t shoot for sht.
Yeah and the defense was still horrible last night. We will be lucky if another team struggles that bad to make open shots.

I still cant believe GT has wins. That was by far the worst team we have played this year and it is not even close. They were awful. They must have had at least 10 air-balls. They had a 2 on 1 fast break and threw a pass off the front of the rim. I would be embarrassed if I was a GT player/coach and contemplate retirement after that.
wish we could trade frontcourts with GT...they rendered jyare, eddie and co toothless for most of the game

The problem is that his shooting has been atrocious over the last 4 games:
FG -- 8-32 (25%)
3pt -- 3-19 (16%)

More on Carlos and JJ. Might’ve been said already here but in the 2nd when both teams were just looking terrible we had built a 5 point lead still. Ga Tech went on an 8-0 run, we looked lost on defense and no one could hit anything.

In previous games Carlos took the ball up slow tried to run a play and everyone stood around. We Always ended up with a terrible heave late then the other team would push the lead.

Yesterday instead JJ takes it up the court himself doesn’t pass, doesn’t look around, just drains a 3. Then althe defense wakes up we get a quick stop and JJ gets a little room on a screen to hit another pull-up jumper.

Answered their 8-0 run with our own 5-0 run and took the lead back and didn’t give it up. It’s not like JJ is gonna do that every game especially against real teams but we know for sure Carlos can’t do it.

the turnover problem has a lot to do with no one moving off the ball on offense

4 guys standing watching the guy with the ball creates zero passing options for whomever has the ball

need to cut, move etc...and really really need to stop turning the ball over like its their job

this is a fixable problem (that can have a big impact)

the other issue i see that is easily addressable is shot selection...no more heat check crap shots
