Hear me out. Gerry knows how to be a coach. He has proven his chops at Siena. In two years he has taken them from a 4 win season to a winning season with a team that might make the tourney. He should have been chosen over Red but politics forced him out. As far as I know, he went graciously and left the town that he and his family truly loved.

I know many here think we should get some kind of established coach from a major program. But taking a coach from a mid-major, one who is hungry and has the coaching chops, has proven to be quite successful in college basketball. Or even football. Look at Indiana!

Gerry is an outstanding person who is uniquely qualified to be the head of our faltering program. He inspires loyalty and confidence. He bleeds Orange. He is beloved. And I believe he has what it takes to lead our program back to real gosh-darned good-ness, if not greatness. Let’s go, Orange!

Happy New Year.

I look forward to a completely clean break.

No offense to Gerry.

This atrophying program is desperately in need of an infusion of new blood / new ideas.

Siena is not a mid-major. They are a low-major. They do not play in the same sandbox as mid-majors (MW, A-10, American, Conf USA, etc..)

Yes, they “might” make the tourney. There appears to be a pretty clear line of demarcation betw the top 4 schools (NETs in the 150 range) and the bottom 9 schools (250+ range), so they stand a reasonable chance to prevail. But those tourneys are crapshoots, and they’ve shown nothing to indicate that they can punch above their weight as of yet. All their wins are of the Q4 variety, and they’ve only played one game in each of the first 3 quadrants.

Gerry needs a lot more seasoning before he becomes a viable candidate.

Can one earn his "chops" by playing in a garbage conference?

How about he wins a few MAAC titles or maybe even an NCAAT game first.

I’m sorry…this would be an unprecedented move for a P4 program. As of today, Siena is in 4th place in their conference with no guarantees of even sniffing the NCAA tournament. McNamara has two years of mediocre head coaching experience at a small school. If his name was John Doe, he would not be in consideration for this job, much less any job at a level above where he is now.

If you want the basketball equivalent of Curt Cignetti, then you want someone like Josh Schertz.

Gerry is a great alumni of Syracuse University, but as a season ticket holder for Siena, I will tell you that Syracuse can do a lot better at this present time.

Can Gerry make the step from Siena to Syracuse? Hopefully, if in the next few years he takes Siena to a couple NCAA tournaments and wins a couple games. And hopefully if he develops the Siena program to be not only the cream of the MAAC, but also a mid-major program that no one wants to play because on any given night his team can upset yours because not only has he attracted a lot of talent, but they also have a finely tuned offense and defense.

Right now Gerry is still figuring it all out. His program is on the rise, but it's not there yet. The best part of transitioning from Xmas to the New Year for programs like Siena and even LeMoyne is now they can really show their fans how well put together and well coached their teams are.

Appreciate your support of Gerry. He will be a successful coach at a P4 school at some point. You obviously will get zero support on this board on your opinion but I agree with you.
