Gerry McNamara needs to be the next coach

Again, no one has to justify their choice for head coach to you. Hodgson's resume isn't any more accomplished than Gerry's. Your opinion on who it should be are worth as much as mine, which is to say jack and squat. I'm not interested in playing message board merry go round with you.
Why do you keep saying objectively false things?

I don't know that he is. I think they're both viable candidates. As I also said before, I'm not virulently opposed to Hodgson. But Gerry is my choice for head coach. He's a winner, he's a Syracuse guy. That preference doesn't need to be justified to anyone that thinks differently. Y'all can play Charlie Day with the numbers or continue with the name-calling 'til the cows come home, it doesn't matter. A lot of fans and Orange supporters want Gerry as coach, it would be a disservice to them if the University doesn't kick the tires on that option.

I just saw a poll on CNY Central this morning. They had a survey for who should be the next coach.

Gerry has received over 40% of the votes so far.
Hodgson is 2nd with 27% or something like that, Mike had about 10% and I forget the 4th choice.

So, there are a lot of people out there who would like to see Gerry. But if he starts poorly, it could really tarnish the fans support.

Do we want to see Gerry coaching a team in a near-empty Dome? That would be a disaster.

Fair enough. I still think the case for Gerry at this point is more emotion-based and I get it - the emotion of sports is a big reason why we all enjoy it so much.

But I don't think it should factor into hiring decisions, especially for a program that's been down for several years and really needs to get this hire right.

Or course not. Last time, board / donor dysfunction and politics led to us making a poor hire, because it was the path of least resistance.

It would be colossally stupid to repeat that mistake, without performing full due diligence. Perhaps GMac would be on a short list, maybe not.

But basing it on emotional nostalgia -- not what the program needs right now. The criteria needs to be merit based, not prioritizing subjectively vague factors like when Red was hired.

The crazy thing is, both resumes were detailed in this very thread, and it was abundantly clear this isn’t remotely accurate. But folks like you have chosen to just ignore that and keep asserting otherwise. You can believe whatever crazy nonsense that contradicts reality that you want to but you keep getting upset that I’m pointing it out.

As but one example of how you keep contradicting yourself: here you say both of our opinions are worth jack and squat. In your comment before that, you say Syracuse owes it to fans who want Gerry to “kick the tires”. Which is it? That your opinion doesn’t matter, or that it’s so important Syracuse should listen to it?

When arguments keep twisting in knots and contradicting - it’s a sure fire sign of an emotional argument and that the person has fully abandoned logic and reason. You have abandoned logic and reason on this topic.

Anyone who voted for Mike should be tested for drugs. I can at least see how the emotional appeal of Gerry is impacting people - voting for Mike is totally baffling to me.

You are right about this.

Hodgson's resume isn't any more accomplished than Gerry's.

Most people would disagree with this take, looking at it objectively.
Hodgson has coached at 2 schools, not one, as the head coach.
He won at both places.

His time as an assistant was marked by being the lead recruiter for teams that over-achieved by a mile compared to their history.

Gerry's time as an assistant was Syracuse's worst time as a program in 60 years. He was nowhere near the recruiter that Mike Hopkins was.

Their experience is not equivalent. Sorry if you can't see that.

Mike was our glory days. That's why he's getting votes.

Everybody knows he was an assistant on 2 or 3 Olympics teams.

They know he won Coach of the Year when he went to Washington.

I think most people didn't follow his career closely past that.

Just hire Hodgson!! And for the record, I do love some gmac but gotta take emotion out of it.

Would love to see data comparing NIL money ratio in conference compared to end of year finish in conference.

The NIL guy you refer to is less likely now than when I was rejected in my efforts a few months back. It seems that NIL guy's foe is stronger now than he even was then.
Well put.

I haven’t seen as much stuff from Etan and some of the other usual pushers in that space or maybe I’m just missing it.

I gotta believe that most of the folks pushing Hopkins so hard 2-3 weeks ago and promising 30 mil woke up Wednesday morning thinking well now we have to be all in on GMac.

Let’s just say I’m big dawg BoT guy with major pull to decide on a coach. 2 weeks ago I’m getting calls from the family hire people that Hopkins is the man and has tons of money coming with him and has to be coach.

Now after one game and a tourney ticket punched I’m getting the same calls but now it’s GMac that has to be the coach.

Sorry but I’d be skeptical with this group just swapping out a name overnight even if we all know that gmac is a better hire than Hop.

Oh that switch was flipped over the weekend going into Monday morning, you could sense and smell the change from the CNY bubble folks who have no perspective.

At same time I recognize and tip my hat to the job Gerry is doing and he has put in work to get himself into consideration but it really is wild how narrow minded folks are.
