Gerry Staff Predictions…

These things are usually set in stone a good time before they are released to the public. A small issue is most coaching contracts don’t expire until after the FF so I assume that’s part of the holdup.
Does that matter for going public with announcements? Like how would that differ from BC announcing they hired Murray in advance? I assume he’s still under contract with UConn.

I would just say that if all but 1 are done it’s probably that last spot to close on before announcing it or leaking the whole staff to go. Even if HR isn’t done with the last hire once it’s accepted I figure we get the news coming out unofficially for everyone before a quick turn formal announcement once HR is done with the last piece.
The last piece is fiscal approval by the BoT.

Internal policy, GMacs preference etc I suspect. Plus you don’t want your cards being exposed if the ink isn’t dry yet.

Good point especially when given the smoke and leaks so far when he said he’s going for an elite staff he wasn’t mincing words or messing around. There is real money here at play with loading up on a staff with multiple guys that are ambitious up and comers.

The university will not release those names publicly until the process is complete, including BoT approval - previous recent history taught them this lesson.

When Hopkins turned down Siena I thought it was logical that he was going to be our GM.

Bulldog mentioned his price was absurd here and guessing same for Siena thus have to imagine his price as a GM would be a problem too if he was even interested. Maybe not but practically speaking not sure at his point in his career there is much to gain leaving an NBA gig for this unless it’s coming with an above market salary as a GM

Referring to the Zach Arnett incident?

One of the reasons that Hop stepped away from Siena I've heard is money. What would the GM at Syracuse pay? More than an NBA ass't?

Who knows, maybe he wants to get back into the college game and the dollars are the end all be all. I imagine the GM job would pay better or at least the same as the Siena coaching job.

Now these are the types of hires I was hoping for. Bringing in Brunt, Daly, & Lee definitely makes me feel a bit better about the hire. And then you can bring in AO and Blackwell and that's a much stronger full staff than we had under Red, and than what Gerry had last season.
I’m wondering if it’s AO or Blackwell, but not both? My guess would be AO as big man coach.

If you want shooting you don’t want Hopkins picking players.
I have no doubt that whoever is the GM Gerry will get final say on which players we take. The role of the GM will be to put together the database of potential players with all their analytics, advanced metrics, stats, and other pertinent information. And like we saw with Kline, he was quite often on the road meeting with players and semi recruiting. So I don’t think Hopkins would be a bad choice. I know for a fact, he understands analytics because 10 years or more ago when he was an assistant here I had a conversation with him at an event and all he wanted to talk about was analytics so he’s been on board with that stuff for a long time. But to have him out there, also recruiting somewhat, has to be a plus.
