the whole Triche as our best player take from Bilas is a bit suspect.
I don't really understand that either.

no, you're right - Bilas has never once been critical of SU.
And Gottlieb's not at all phony.
let me guess - you probably also think that Lebron is clutch, right?
Lebron is clutch
In the regular season.
everyone likes to forget the ECF where he carried Wade while shutting down the MVP of the regular season
also he took the CLEVELAND CAVALIERS to the finals
His performance last year (or lack there of) spoke more to his mental character than anything he did in Cleveland.

He's a pretty good analyst (even better on the radio) and he's not afraid to call teams out when they're playing poorly or just suck. When people whine about DG saying mean things guess what? It means we're playing like ****. I remember in 2009 people got on him because he thought Syracuse had final four talent but lacked the executiuon at times to get there. Pretty sure he was spot on there.
I have to LOL at polyannas who think ther's some sort of Gottlieb conspiracy against Syracuse because Boeheim didn't recruit him or some other nonsense. Go to other boards. EVERY fan thinks DG has it out for their team.
If your cup of tea is guys like Dick Vitale who puts like 50 teams in his top 10 and lauds every D1 coach as COY material then good for you.
Can't stand his radio show. Its the only time of day if im in the car i actually listen to music instead of espn radio.
Mo Williams was the second best player on the team he took to the finals! He was younger and carried that team! How can you just ignore that? Remember when he scored like 29 out of the last 31 against the heavily favored Pistons? Why does that not matter but last years finals do?
The difference is Jordan didn't have anyone as good as Lebron has in Wade. Wade is a legit top 5 player in the entire league. He is one of the 3 best shooting guards in the history of the game. Giving him the ball is not a mistake by Lebron.
What about the time Jordan passed off to Kerr?

Largest stage of his career and he choked. That is why it matters. Players like Bird, Jordan, Magic, Kobe, etc .. never ran from the moment or the ball. The Chosen One did.
Magic was being called a choker after the 84 finals, I believe.
Lebron was about as good a player as you can be in the ECF, and about as bad as you can be in the finals. It's pretty hard to believe.
OK, give me an example.
Gottlieb is a tool! I don't mind when he formulates reasonable opinions about college basketball teams but he absolutely is steadfast in denial of giving SU due credit. He's forced, on occasion, to recognize individual players or specific plays and offer praise through gritted teeth. But last night during ESPN’s Bracketology program, yet another example of Gottlieb’s ignorance, Lunardi used statistics and ratings to demonstrate that SU is and would be "by far" the overall #1 seed if the Orange and UK were both to win-out. Gottlieb was only willing to concede that SU should be a #1 seed, but 3rd overall behind UK and OSU. There's plenty of support for a reasonable argument that UK could edge out Syracuse for the overall #1. But OSU? Not a chance. Gottlieb is an ass, plain and simple. If SU were to beat both OSU and UK en route to a National Championship, Gottlieb would then argue that UNC is the best team in America despite statistics, performance and the analysis of his peers.
I think that most here are aware of the difference. Gottlieb is a phony, IMO.
If you like him, good for you.
