Had to laugh at this, it is pretty accurate. FYI back in the 80'ss and 90's when I was active duty, every year when the birthday would roll around the police in the towns surrounding the base had an "agreement" with the bases that on the day of the Marine Corps ball, no one could ever get arrested for a DUI. If they pulled over a Marine they were to give them a ride to where ever they were going. Obviously it isn't something that is feasible to do every day, but it was cool to know that no matter how light or heavy you celebrated, you were going to get home safe. I know in my battalion and a few others that we pre-selected DD's for the evening, each platoon in each battery had at least three DD's. My first Marine Corps birthday was actually during boot camp at Parris Island in 1986. To all my fellow Marines, Semper Fi, enjoy today and stay safe.For all who chose the "lesser" services of Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and of course the new Space Force, although I joke about being a lesser service, much respect to you all as we celebrate Veteran's Day tomorrow. For now I am going to go enjoy my crayon cake, funnel some beer, and remember both the good and bad times.
