Harden to the Rockets

Surprised about Harden but $$$ was going to be an issue. Cannot believe they cut Andy either, what are thinking. :bang:

$13 million a year for a sixth man...and that's not enough?

Insane.

I think Andy will get picked back up Cook (their 3pt specialist) was sent in the deal. OKC sent 4 players and only picked up 2. 2 more spots just opened up!

Hope Andy makes the team. Still an average shooter who can't guard anyone in the NBA. Just the way it is.

BS about guys not being happy enough with money. Get every damn dime. They have a limited earning window. What's the difference between 12 mil and 15 mil? Or 48 and 60? A lot of money!!! Somehow people think its all relative. When average Joe gets a 5k raise and see it in your paycheck, its really nice. Millions matter, careers are short. Get paid.

Such bizarre hypocrisy. These are jobs. Any of us would take more money in our gigs. And do it elsewhere, with another company, if they were willing to pay us a lot more.

I think this is a big gamble by Harden if the reported numbers are true. He is getting an extra $4.5 million over four years to become "the guy" in Houston. If Harden fails to live up to max level expectations, his next contract will be closer to mid-level. The future downside is tens of millions of dollars and possibly championships.

This move tells me OKC knows that with or without Harden they are not beating LA or Miami.

Amen. There are about 7 billion people on this planet. How many of them are better at being a professional basketball player than James Harden? Maybe 20? That's a pretty special set of job skills, and those skills will diminish and disappear as he reaches his mid to late 30's. He has a pretty limited amount of time to cash in. Toss in lawyer and agent fees, taxes ... players never see a large chunk of the 'reported deals' we see on TV.

Eric Gordon and Roy Hibbert were maxed out. If I'm James Harden, you're damn right I want the max.

And Oklahoma City couldn't guarantee him a 5th year, Houston can. So we're talking 4/52 or 5/80-ish.

Andy shot close to 50% from 3pt land for the entire preseason and as well or better in practice by all reports. He is by definition an above average shooter.

That's not average... that's Steve Novak territory.

The move tells me that there might have been other reasons regarding Harden that OKC wasn't going to go out of their way to try and keep him.

It was just about money and I think OKC did very well in this trade Martin is in a contract year, Lamb is a promising rookie and OKC received 2 # 1 picks and a # 2. OKC can't afford to be a tax payer they don't have the TV revenue required for that.

Houston gave up a lot, for sure.

Harden's no show in the finals greased the skids for this deal I think.

I know friends, parents friends, etc...that have turned down money to stay in the same city because their kids school, girlfriend, friends, family, whatever live there. I know people that have moved home and taken less money to return. And that 10K or whatever (random number) is MUCH more substantial to those people than an extra 10 million to someone who has 55 Million banked.

People have different priorities - for some people the idea of winning, staying in a city you like, may seem like a better trade-off than 10 million. Jared Weaver turned down 40 million (or whatever) so his parents could watch him play and he could stay with the Angels. It happens all the time. I have no idea what Harden's motivation is - if it's just money he did the right thing. Good for him.

I don't CARE that people go for the money, but I also don't care when people criticize them, it makes sense to me either way.

I'm assuming Harden is going to be starting, correct? Maybe he wanted to be "the guy". That would certainly never happen in OKC, although I imagine he wouldve stayed for the Max rendering my point moot.

Idiot...these pro athletes kill me. With people barely making it now a days they think they need every dime to live on. Bunch of selfish SOB's.

Your beef is with the organizations willing to pay guys like Harden.

If Harden got $80m, Jonny must be holding out for like 110 based on that one NCAAT game, am I right?

OKC absolutely mandhandled Houston in this trade. Harden was gonna be gone after this year. Martin will likely be gone after this year. Basically got Jeremy Lamb, 2 1st round picks (1 of which is most likely a top 8 pick), and an early 2nd round pick for nothing.

And Martin isn't a big drop off from Harden. Only question really now is whether or not Maynor can run things when Westbrook needs a break. If he's healthy, OKC is just as good as they were before and now has a chance at landing a big time rookie next year.

I just turned down more money because I am very happy in my current situation. At a certain level, more money is not worth the risk on being put in a bad situation and ending up unhappy. To each their own.

Don't think being the starting 2 guard on an NBA team is a bad situation ever.
