Well everyone as I did like last year here is my predictions for the upcoming men’s college basketball season. As we all know once again Kentucky is coming in likely number 1 when the first AP polls come out. And with the number 1 recruiting class they are heavily favored to win the title. But history has shown that many teams can and will be upset this year. Here are my official predictions.
American East:
If anyone of you watched the midnight madness' over the past few weeks you would remember that Binghamton had one of the most memorable dunks at that time. Although it was "scrimmage" I expect them to have a bounce back year with the 6-4 SO guard from Philly, Jordan Reed. However! My prediction to win the conference and likely get the only bid into the NCAA tournament will be Vermont. There all around team play is well executed and will likely give them an advantage this year.
SEASON CHAMPIONS - VERMONT
TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS - VERMONT
American: Well look at what we have! A brand new conference...Kind of. But sadly this conference I don’t think will feature top teams like the Big East use to. With the arrival of new teams such as Houston and UCF, I don’t think they can and will compete against powerhouses like Louisville and UConn. And then you have your x factors such as Memphis, Cinci, and a team that beat Syracuse last year, Temple. With the loss of Behan.I don’t know if Louisville can take it cleanly. I actually have UConn winning the conference. It’s 50/50. Can L-Ville pass the jinx "Kentucky, UConn, Kansas, UNC" of defending champions trying to retain their crown. UConn is a solid team with a young coach that has all the potential.
SEASON CHAMPIONS - UCONN
TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS - L-VILLE
Atlantic 10: Here's a conference that last year was a "SHOOOOOOCCKKA" You had VCU coming in as the favorites but didn’t expect a surprise by St. Louis. This year however it will be all about VCU. I actually have them as a possible Final Four team. Shaka Smart is one of the best and youngest coaches out there.
SEASON CHAMPS - VCU
TOURNY CHAMPS - VCU
ACC: This conference will likely be the best conference this year, maybe getting 8-10 teams in. You have powerhouses all over the place. This is going to be a conference that doesn’t have a clear winner. In fact the first place team could possibly be 10-8 because of the depth in this conference. You all know what’s in store this year so I’ll get right into it.
SEASON CHAMPS - Syracuse
Tourney Champs - Pitt
"New" Big East: Out with the old, In with the new. This conference is going to be like the ACC. up and down all year with teams like Marq, Georgetown, NOVA, Butler, Creighton just to name a few. Doug Mac. Might be player of the year but Marq will take the top crown, after coming off an elite 8 appearance expect them to be a powerhouse.
Season Champs - Marq
Tourney Champs - Marq
Big Sky: Weber St was one of the most efficient teams in the NCAA last year. Top in field goal percent. Top 25th in scoring. But will the loses and the lack of stability in the conference keep them down. Or will another team perhaps take the glory, like a team like Montana who made it to the big dance last year.
Season Champs – Montana
Tourney Champs – Montana
BIG SOUTH: With the surprising dominance of Liberty last year in the Big South conference championship, expect them to be a threat this year, along with Charleston Southern. But watch out for Gardner and VMI also.
Season Champs – Liberty
Tourney Champs – VMI
Big Ten: What’s better than watching a low scoring defensive game on a Sunday afternoon? Watching two low scoring defensive games on a Sunday afternoon. This conference is stacked. Michigan St and Ohio St likely being the favorites, but with emerging teams such as Indiana still in the mix, Michigan, the runner ups. And teams like Illinois, Wisconsin, and And Iowa. This conference could be close.
Season Champs: Mich St
Tourney Champs: Ohio St
In Closing. I didn’t want to make this boring and long, so in the PAC 12: I have Arizona winning both the season and tourney. In the SEC, it’s a no brainer. Kentucky. And Gonzaga winning the West Coast.
2014 Number 1 seeds
Kentucky
Michigan St
Louisville
Arizona
2014 Final Four
Kentucky (South) vs. Syracuse (West)
Duke (East) vs. Arizona (Mid-West)
