If you live in the tri-state area, BE games are playing on about three channels every night. Tonight there will actually be four. ACC games get a very limited showing. I am afraid that with Pitt being the only other BE team switching to the ACC, little will change in the coverage.

Sure, SU games will continue to be shown after the switch, but otherwise TV coverage will remain about the same. That means continued BE saturation and a drop in SU fans. Not good.

I believe that similarto SNY and the BE there is a channel that shows all ACC games ...or so I have been told. I also have to believe that Time Warner and FIOS willnot drop the ball and, similar to what we have now, will be picking up all the SU games. Rather than watching a lot of BE games we will just be watching a lot of ACC games.

No, the reason Big East games are shown is because of the popularity of the league. Without Syracuse and Pitt that drops alot. I expect to see alot more ACC games in the tri-state area after the move. SNY has a deal with Cuse and UCONN so we will be on all the time in the tri-state area anyway so as long as were on, im not worried.

I would assume that SNY will continue to carry SU games regardless of conference.

Time will tell, but the OPs concern could be a legit fact of life that we in SNY/MSG territory just have to live with. We all think SU is the bees knees, and yeah they are an attractive team for broadcast in the tri-state area, but jeez, SU is not the lone reason Big East games are broadcast in the region. There are 4 actual league members in the tristate area, and while some of them may not be big draws, most of the crap in the ACC brings nothing of interest to a tristate audience.

I would be in shock if there was not some kind of ACC channel made available to the tri-state and upstate areas. I dont think im being a homer when I say that Cuse has more appeal in Upstate/Tri-State than St Johns/Nova/Seton Hall/Rutgers combined. Does station "X" make more $ off televising Seton Hall/L'Ville in tri-state or UNC/Virginia with Syracuse fans interested in our conference foes?

I believe the ACC has a deal with Raycom or something? Jefferson Pilot?

I would think SNY would investigate carrying those games?

If Time Warner does not do this, they will lose a lot of customers.

doesn't SNY have a contract with the Big East? They say they are the home of the Big East, so that must have some sort of deal.

Living in Atlanta, we hardly get any ACC B-Ball games. Used to get a Sunday evening ACC game. Even GA Tech gets very little coverage in ATL. I hope that ACC does strike a deal with someone for TV coverage of B-Ball. As it is now, I get just about every CUSE b-ball game on DirecTV...and that's without the ESPN extra $ channels (700's).

Yes, SNY has a 5 year contract to carry SU games which runs out next year. However, that is not the issue. Someone will get a new contract for the SU games. The issue is that SNY, MSG1. MSG2 and YES will all continue to show - almost exclusively - the other BE games. The other ACC games will not be available, unless some new deal is worked out and I fear there is no demand or market for those games in the area. Result - we will all remain BE fans, pining for the good old days.

All of this to be worsened perhaps if the ACC splits into north - south divisions and we are back to playing BC as the big excitement. Not at a very pleasant thought.

Only thing I know is that Syracuse is ultra-committed to being a huge presence in the tri-state area. Im sure it will work itself out. The new all sports network not named ESPN is debuting soon and im sure the ACC will strike a deal to get itself shown up north and into NYC...isnt that the reason they invited Syracuse anyway?

I've noticed in the past that MSG actually shows far more ACC games than Big East. Also, I believe YES occasionally broadcasts ACC games. It would be great if the ACC/Syracuse could get something going with YES.

That was what I was thinking , if they break up into North and South , the North will be a circa 87 BE lite. In retrospect we could accomplish the same by staying and scheduling Duke and NC instead of Tulane and Marshall. But then again, we are told "this isn't about Basketball".

I think on TWCNY cable we see more PAC-12 baskeball than we see ACC.

So, most games are on TV if you have cable or DirecTV. It's unclear if the ACC Network games are available anywhere other than online (the current online TV guide services don't cover those dates). For those around Syracuse, Fox Sports Network is a network of regional sports stations. SNY is similar to one of those stations.
Currently, ACC Network rights in Syracuse are held by one of the local stations (CW?). It's unclear if they only signed a contract for the current year or if they have options to extend the duration. One might expect TW to try to obtain rights to some of the lower profile home games as they do today. I would expect one of the NYC sports stations to pick up rights for the Syracuse games just as SNY has done recently.

One thing that does stink whether games are on SNY, MASN, etc. (Directv viewer from NC) is when shows pre-empt the games. A few times this year, both for football and hoops, SNY has had Mets postgame and Jets postgame conflict with the Orange games, so that they are JIP...last night when the SU game started there was still nearly six minutes left in WVA's blowout of Rutgirls and missed the first 7 minutes of the SU game because of it...:(

I was able to find the start of DePaul game in standard definition on Fox Sports Ohio. I switched over to SNY-HD after the Jets postgame show ended.

Yesterday's SNY showing of the WVU-Rutgers game was similarly invasive. Fortunately, ESPN3 was able to provide early SU-PC coverage until SNY switched over.

You may be right? My relatively uneducated mind tells me that without heavy interest outside of the immediate Pitt-SU viewing area the chance that as many SU (ACC or out of conference) games being televised to the broader BE interest area could cause problems for people who live north of DC along the east coast.

The whole TV thing would seem to revolve around advertiser interest..if the eyeballs aren't there the chances of TV coverage has to diminish. Are advertisers along the coast north of DC going to want to ante up for SU games? Maybe in New England around Boston?

Philly..NYC...Long Island..Jersey..maybe not so much, without a BE affiliation.

I don't think it'll effect upstate NY or Western PA that much, but it might reduce the number of SU games available to those outside of those areas?

You can't use the current Big East coverage to predict what the future BE TV coverage will be. Losing SU, Pitt and WVU will greatly reduce the appeal of the league, considering that they will be replaced by UCF, SMU and Houston. No comparison on the basketball front.

The ACC will rise up as the premier bball conference because of the watered down product the BE will be dishing out. I really don't see SMU vs. Providence having much appeal for any TV audience.

The BE would have been a viable basketball product if he did away with the football side of things. Maintain the catholic schools, add in a Xavier and Temple and you have one hell of a NE bball conference. I'm almost glad it didn't happen that way.
