Hey Mel, No Hotel !!!

Rough count theres at least 6 other hotels at worst a 5 minute Uber ride away from the Sheraton. At least 3 of them have more amenities to offer than the Sheraton.
So there are 3 better hotels five minutes from campus. The people the University cares about don't stay at the Collegian.

Not in the rooms. I had friends stay there each of the last two years and they were stuck in the 90’s.

The bar area and their banquet rooms including the main one were re-done.

It was very convenient for me as an older female who comes alone to games. I didn't need to rent a car which is an additional expense. I have Marriott status and lots of points saved up, so for big games I used my points. I got breakfast and happy hour food. It will be a hardship for me. On some of the really big games, it is hard to get an uber. I was meeting someone who is very well known on this board, and she was staying at a Carrier Circle hotel, and waited over 2 hours to get an uber for one of the Clemson games. I have stayed at some very nice Carrier Circle hotels, but without a car it is not doable and rental cars are much more expensive than a hotel room. Also it was a safe place to meet for drinks. Oh the people on here and others who I hung out n the bar with after games and events. The staff knew me, and I always had a premier room. I was already thinking of starting to cut back on my Syracuse trips, and this is what will end up helping to make that decision.
This is not a surprise to me. It was part of a plan announced several years ago.

I blame Dino
Ill Allow It GIF

Wish I was stuck in the 90s
so does our football program! Top 25, bowl games, good ones and winning them, 7 wins was considered only an OK year, 7+ wins was expected and common, as John Saunders once said about our football program during the Grob era, "How the mighty have fallen." I feel we are back to the Grob era. It ends and we start anew beginning November 19, 2023, the day after the GTech loss, #7, and Dino Babers is told, "Your services are no longer required."

Last year for Purdue I stayed at the Crowne Plaza. Team stayed there night before the game, and I found it to be a fairly easy walk. We did have a friend who is partially handicapped and doesn't get around the best, he did have to uber back as the uphill was a bit much for him.

I came up a couple months ago for a job interview at SU and they put me up there. Felt like it was already a campus building in many ways

Rumor has it that they were going to knock down the Crowne Plaza. Not sure if thats true. However, according to articles this year they are suppose to knock down the Collegian for a five story college housing building. Those hotels seem busy on game days, but maybe the rest of the time people are staying at Armory Square or Carrier Circle.

The Collegian is not being torn down. That project was scrapped.

I wonder if it wasn’t connected to this decision? Collegian could eat up a ton of Sheraton traffic if it wasn’t such a dump. Closer than Crowne Plaza. It’s just awful inside and the rooms are tiny. They need a full reno and presumably a new owner.

I have a parking pass but I still preferred to leave my car at Sheraton for games and just walk up. Makes it far easier and safer to enjoy the game. Will have to try the Crowne Plaza.

The downtown options are great when I’m OK driving. I’ve found the Uber / Lyft situation to be way too unreliable.

I'm a bit shocked on the uber/lift situation. I never really have had to wait long for an uber in Syracuse or even where I live now in the Burbs(max 10-15 mins).

The Marriott Hotel Syracuse usually does shuttles for major Syracuse games.

The beauty of our economic system is that if there really is a huge demand for hotel space adjacent to the university, and if that demand will translate into gobs of revenue, then someone will build a hotel to take advantage of said demand and will prosper.

The owner of the Collegian is relatively new (within the last few years). I thought they did a reno but maybe that was just to the lobby/restaurant/banquet hall areas? My buddy stayed in a suite in the older portion of the hotel prior to his wedding 5 or 6 years ago. I thought that was a really nice room.

Used to go there when the bar was called Regatta. They had pizza and wings with blue cheese. Think pitchers were like $5.

What's the nicest hotel near-ish the school now? I honestly am asking.

Seems like it’s the exact opposite of short sighted. It’s part of a longer term vision to get more students into on campus housing.

There was never anything special about the Sheraton aside from the location. I stayed there a number of times and it was always a mediocre to crummy experience.

There’s a bajillion hotels within 15 minutes of campus.

Staying there is great for the location but the actual experience is rather dated otherwise.

Makes sense. My best living situation on the hill was South Campus. Less communal than the dorms but still lots of people around, with Goldstein right there in the middle. Checks all of the (college kid) boxes. Will definitely recommend that to my kids.

I loved living at South Campus. Lived next to two female swimmers who were very popular with the football and basketball players, got to meet a lot of them as a result.

However - kids today seem to view things differently. A friend had a son going to ESF, and I asked if he was going to stay at South Campus - he looked at me like I was nuts. "Why would anyone want to stay there?" I assume there's other options which appeal to kids a lot more now, the appeal of South Campus is mostly gone. Doesn't shock me Syracuse plans to repurpose that area.

I think the Skyler and the Collegian are a 15 minute walk from the Dome and are fairly nice. Never stayed there but friends have, and they didn't complain.
