Hey Mel, No Hotel !!!

I wasn't referring to just hotels. What is the plan for new residence halls? You're not using that land on South Campus, so where are you building? This is the overall conversation to be had. Are they going to buy out local homeowners and raze the land for development? There's little free space on Main. You need a minimum of 2000 rooms as between Skyhall and the apartments, those accomodate a minimum of 3000 students.

Between the acquisition of The Marshall and the conversion of the Sheraton into a dorm, the University has added nearly 700 beds to their dorm portfolio. They also demolished basically a block of homes on Ostrom Ave several years back - including the former offices of The Daily Orange and I believe the WAER studios - with the stated intention of using that space to construct new dorms.

You don’t think they have conversations and have plans? They’ve already done numerous things in the past year or more and have near and long term plans. This stuff has been in the works for years.

Yeppers. They also have bought at least one or more sorority/fraternities and are/will use those buildings. Longer term I’m sure our tailgating lot will become a dorm.

What's interesting is that they built that absolutely beautiful Veteran's Center in very prime property where its a shame they didn't reconfigure it and build a nice hotel or dorm above it.

I love the fact that I went to SU and only lived on campus for 1 year (Day Hall). I petitioned the school to move into a frat sophomore year and they agreed to it. I doubt they would now based on this Robert Moses like reshuffle.

Net/Net this is a good thing. A demand for SU is a good thing.

There will be another hotel that will rise if they need it. I'm surprised a boutique one hasn't sprouted up on/near Marshall St. Feels like a no brainer.

Unless student housing off campus has improved, what would be the draw to wanting to live under the university's watch in the residence halls? With the exception of freshman, I get it. You need to get them fully integrated into the university socially and being on South is bad for their development.

However, Upperclassmen wanted to move to Marion, Kimmel as well as Watson being that they were at the center of campus and then South because you had more freedom. The only sacrifice was the bus ride and having to go to Goldstein to wash your clothes. Walking up that hill from Lambreth with a surplus duffel bag full of clothes and sheets in the Winter wasn't for the weak.
Loved Marion Hall sophomore year. Close to every and frat

Let I knew, there are plans to build more dorms west of the dome, where the parking lots are, between Irving and Fineview. The Syracruz tailgate group does not approve…..

The university has been buying up houses on Ostrum recently as well, including the house that has been fhe DO headquarters for decades. They could build there too pretty easily.

Ostrom corner would be a nice spot for a dome opposite Ernie Davis / Dellplain. The land is ready. Surprised they haven’t started but maybe it’s next. That would be a better spot for housing than in the parking lots (IMHO) due to the hills.

The DO is now across from Shaw Hall.

Sheraton closing only eliminates SU from hosting opening rounds where you need 10 hotels. I think we could still host a regional final round which has less teams, but the venue doesn't hold up against facilities in that round.

Agree.

They might even be thinking about fans attending games here (and the many students and univrsity employees who use these lots every day).

I think the original plan was to put the new dorms where the parking lots are. After some careful thought, they may have decided to put them on the east side of the campus, off Ostrom.

That would be awesome. The kids get better views and easy access to a nice park (that SU will hopefully make even better). And provisions for parking for employees, students and fans are retained.
