Hodg GameDay: USF v. Charlotte, AAC Conference Semi 3pm

Will do. Right now its 2 passes and a shot and a make, so not much driving.

Responding to how they are being defended. Good screening action to get shooters open plus they are closing down driving lanes and getting into transition more now as well.

They make quick adjustments out of timeouts - something else you will notice and especially as it gets late in the first half. Plus tired legs of the opponent at this pace means more open looks for their shooters. Charlotte much slower closing out and fighting through screens. Just smart basketball on both ends.

In the pace they play certain players have green lights as you can see. If they are open the shot is going up. Working the shot clock isnt what they do. If you are open it is going up regardless of one pass or two pass or 10 passes

Isnt that what Red’s 4-out 1-in system was supposed to do too? Drive penetration to rim or kick out to 3-ball shooter or lob to cutter when doubled. Guess we didn’t have the dudes to run it right or coach it up.

The difference is coaching and being able to communicate the team's objective. We are doing this to get this person this shot. USF uses tons of analytics to see what defenders they should attack and which one of their players should be taking shots and where

One of our problems all year was getting the right guys shots at the right times. Never a purpose. Thats why teams got away from us.

I think part of our coaching problem was the players often did not execute anything properly or with proper conviction/effort (and/or either weren't clear on what they were supposed to do or bought-in on it, or sometimes both)

^^^Modern approach

It’s actually fun watching USF crash the glass.

Yeah they really crash on defensive boards.
