Hodgson to Providence

I wanted him because i thought Schertz wasn’t a possibility and his teams have been fun to watch

Given the latest developments and with Providence fans I hope he flops too
Who would have ever thought that Providence was a better Hoops job then Syracuse???? This just highlights how far..the Mighty Orange have fallen! No other way to see this...no spin...Don't want to hear it. The rebuild at the Cuse...considering who we are up against in the ACC, is huge. Cuse fans put too much emphasis...on Autry and the Coaching for Syracuse's demise....But if you listened to the presser of both the new Chancelor and the new AD, Cuse fans finally should recognize, that the primary challenge for US..is not who our coach is...or is not, but rather how much MONEY can we raise and properly allocate to our athletic teams! At this point, I would love to see GMac get the job, but if the CASH is not in place, to allow him to build a team, he will not produce the type of success that All Syracuse Fans crave. The landscape in College Athletics is completely different now...and this new playing field doesn't favor schools like Syracuse...

Since Hodgson and Syracuse didn’t work out, many posters turned on him and claimed he was just a dbag. News flash- many great coaches are slight dbags.

I would have loved him at Syracuse and think having a shark recruiter close to us at Providence isn’t a good thing for our program.

Oh take it easy… enough pearl clutching… 100s of things coaches have done which are far worse.
Of course worse things have been done but that was a dbag move. As a head coach he never should have engaged with any player that way.

Two thoughts come to mind.

1. He wants to get to an SEC team eventually, ans ElwoodJBlues said, and taking the Cuse job and not hitting it out of the park right away would dim his shining star too much.

2. He thinks he’s not ready for a full P4 rebuild that the Cuse obviously requires. Much easier to rebuild a team with less lofty expectations.

I was in the camp of wanting BH as HC at Cuse. Liked his ties to the southern tier and western NY. Worked at Cuse bball camp. Like his offense system and his loyalty to his staff and players. I saw it as a break from the past, while not completely devoid of ties to CNY. Definitely wouldn’t have been a sure thing, but liked what I saw and what he might have been able to do at Cuse.

It’s not. It is a total dead end job. Their last final 4 appearance was in 1987.
Yeah and? As all the old guys here who’d like to see JAB coach SU next season might say - That coach seems to have built himself a nice little career….

My phone doesn’t let me use the proper font.

I agree with some of this, but disagree about providence being a better job. It may be for Hodgson, but that’s his opinion. There are several reasons to chose them though.

-Longer leash, lower expectations
-More guaranteed NIL from BB only
-May be easier to get to top 4 in Big East than top 8 in ACC

But as you said the new playing field is basically one thing. Who has rich donors who will spend the most. Right now in the northeast from WV to Washington DC to Maine, 1/5 of the population of the US, there are 2 programs thriving. Yukon and St John’s, (who has been excelling because of ONE billionaire, and for no other reason)

We have Lally. Duke has 20 Lallys. Arkansas has Jerry Jones and The Tyson guy. 99% of New Yorkers outside of CNY are not passionate about Syracuse. SEC schools, and Kansas, UNC, Zona etc have entire states behind them even if the fans never attended those schools. Their pool of donors has school pride AND state pride. We face an uphill battle.

I wanted him, but I can tell you the reaction from many of my friends was not good from day 1. They didn't like what he did to Autry's son and when Buffalo came to the dome there was some sort of incident. Many just didn't like him, and I am sure BB heard that also.
I still did not care, and wanted him for his abilities. I'm willing to overlook some things.

And to be fair to your friends, he does look like a supervillain.

My Point exactly...and the reasons you highlighted about Providence...IS what makes it a better job than the Cuse... We all need to just say it out loud, take a deep breadth, and focus in our new reality.

When you dont have to set aside funds for football you are able to put more into the hoops bucket.

Would have been a nice hire but this isnt a huge loss. I was less than impressed watching usf vs louisville
