Holiday Bowl Postgame

Question to San Diegans: Does the marine layer they say rolls in at night affect the ball carrying at night at Padres games in Petco and makes it harder to hit homers? I know they always said Oakland was like that, it was harder to hit homers at night at Oakland-Alameda Coliseum because of the marine layer.
Between May and early Oct, the fog comes in in the afternoon and the temperature drops. This affects the SF Giants much more than the Oakland A's, because the coastal ridge keeps most of the fog away from Oakland which is on the other side of the bay and the stadium is well south of the golden gate where the fog comes thru without obstruction. However, once the sun goes down, the temperature will drop quite a bit in Oakland. I assume a cold baseball doesn't go as far as a warm one, and cold air is denser than warm - this is certainly true with golf.

He's a divisive player on the board but I really like Devin Grant. He's a playmaker. He needs to tackle better. If he cleans it up he will be all-conference.

I also like Watson and Perry at DT.
I understand but there is a difference between good players and all league. And you need all league players to have a good unit. We had really 5 on offense. I count Allen from 2ud team last year.

Faith in Fran, he’ll find some answers.

Our offense can play with anyone. Our defense couldn't. That is what has me so concerned about next year. We lose what good defense we had. I asked who on the defense could be all-league next year and really got very tepid answers. We have to hit the portal hard for defensive help. Real hard.
Yeah this is a legitimate concern.

Any time an already bad defense loses most of its best players, it's difficult to see a path to improvement.

And we're going to need a better defense next season.

SU played two games at Rich. I attended one. I don't remember the opponent or the score. I remember two things. SU won. The ushers were the Buffalo Jills in uniform.
In high school we had a sub for
English class once who was a former Jill…

That's a great line from Thornton Mellon (Rodney Dangerfield) in "Back to School," a classic movie. Barrels of laughs from beginning to end. Still holds up to this day.

9 months is a long way away for players to develop and improve. I fully expect a number of players to make big strides before next season.

Grant back? He has to sure up his tackling angles but he’s the only one I’d say could. Duce has a lot of work to do.

Agreed but this was year 1. Fran understands presumably the issues and importance of needing his defense to play better. I would hope Erob learned some stuff and gets better. I would imagine that JW will in the year end meeting will praise the overall season and offense and talk about changing/adjustments needed for defense and specials.

Yup. I was in the press box that day. Also at the Meadowlands and Ithaca that season. And then Shreveport.

That was really Band on the Run.
My favorite team of the era. They were much better than their record

Watson could be all ACC.
