shafer is 2-6 at home against real schools

25% sucks

after the northwestern dome game, marrone was at 25%

can you blame people for not going ?

One of those wins was against Wake Forest.

The other was realllllly close.

We just don't have a home field advantage. It's not just about crowd noise. Away teams just seem to look like the more comfortable team in our building.

I would be happy if they just sucked only asuch as they do on the road.

By the way we got a guy dropping hushed n bombs and his idiot son talking about how he gang tackled in Jv behind our seats now. Real winners. Food stamps has its disadvantages

Even when we had a decent year like 2010 we lost a ton of home games. Pretty good chance our only home win this year will be against Nova which means the fans will have left all 6 home games feeling nauseous. This team needs to start winning and winning at home it is getting ludicrous

Ugh, I liked the guys that were there a few years ago, seemed to tolerate us and stay entertained.

We have more than 6 for Saturday so maybe it will just be a group migration to one of the many open sections.

Attendance wasn't bad for NC state, but everyone shows up super super late..

Why when we are at home do we never take ball to start the game? At home it is a logical thing to do. Sigh

The part I can not figure out is that schools like Clemson have an incredible tailgate but yet somehow they figure out a way to be in the stands when the teams come out of the tunnel. SU crowd...not so much of either.

When the team was good (aka a million years ago) the place was nearly full at kickoff. Nowadays there's no rush, tailgates, M Street and the Quad are all more fun than what you're going to see inside.

And trust me...the kids feel that same emotion. They run out on to the Dome and sprint to empty seats. Right off the bat they feel like nobody is there to have their back. Again...not the only reason why they don't play well at home but as I've said/wrote so many times before the ONLY thing the fans have control over is being in the stands and yelling. And yet...it's what can you do for me is their response. These kids fight hard start to finish I can not see for the life of me why the fans can not give them the same back.

Eh. I don't get up to many games anymore, but when I'm there those that are in the building are loud and supportive.

Sure it sucks that there are tons of empty seats but that's what a decade of mediocre-to-lousy football gets you.

The team loses at home because we're not a good team.

For the first time since the G-Rob era, I am thinking about not renewing my season tickets next year. Scooch is right, the tailgates are way more fun than the games. It's gotten bad. Not winning at home is just a killer. Knowing that every home game was a loss or the Nova game which felt like a loss...it just seems like a better idea to have game day parties and watch at home instead.

They've broken my heart too many times...
These kids are only there 4 years...it's a lot easier to give your all for 4 years than it is for 20 years in my case.

The ones that are there are noisy and pretty much supportive the point is that there are not that many of them.

20...you're still a rookie in my eyes! ;)

I see each group of players as getting the same effort out of me as I expect from them. I show up on time before they come out of the tunnel and yell every time the SU defense is playing for each snap. I expect them to play hard and they do. We both leave it on the field. :)

Right, well we're 60-94 since 2002. Not too many programs would be packing the house with a 13 season run like that.

Highlights being two 7-5 seasons. Yikes

That's where we differ. This is my team and I am going to support them no matter what, unconditionally. I'll bitch and complain about this and that but yet when there is a game at the Dome I am there to support the players/staff that decided to play/coach for Syracuse University.

Since 2002, home games against schools that are in the p5 today

13-26 in the 39 games where we throw for under 250 yards.
3-6 in the 9 games where we throw for over 250
(22-11 against teams that aren't in the p5 today.)

Throw for 250 18% of the time

Throw out Gerg

11-15 in the 26 games at home where we throw for under 250
3-5 in the 8 games where we throw for over 250
(16-5 against current mid majors)

We suck at throwing the ball at home against schools that matter and we just suck in general even on those rare occasions where we do throw for over 250

Can you blame fans for staying away?

Do I blame them...no...that is their god given choice. I make mine to support them. I can control that. You can parse stats up the ying yang all you want to make excuses as why not to go and again, that's your choice. i love the stats you come up with and find them very interesting and helpful good and bad but no matter what I still go to the games and root for SU's football team. I fully understand there are a plethora of fair weathered fans within the 3 hour drive of the Dome and winning makes this a more attractive ticket...I get that. What bugs me is the ones that do go and fold their arms and bitch instead of helping the team by showing up before they come out of the tunnel and bitch the whole game like that is actually going to help anything other than vent their frustration.

Talk to a player or coach...ask them if you don't believe me. I'm sure they will give a polite answer because God knows being honest would bring out the ones ("fans") that are just aching for someone to complain so they can go ballistic on the radio shows or newspapers with letters to the editor.

Hey, it's great you go to games no matter what. If I didn't live 300 miles away I probably would too. But I'm an adult who doesn't think its appropriate to dictate how other people spend their time and money. Going to SU football games hasn't been all that enjoyable for a long, long time.

Hell, when you think about it, it's remarkable that we draw as well as we do. The hoops team plays, what, 10 weekend home games a year, is a perennial top 25 team (if not top 10), and only breaks 30K once or twice a season. SU football plays 6 games a year and almost always has more than 30K butts in the seats, often in the uppers 30s, and occasionally in the lows 40s.

I know in most parts of the country comparing football to hoops attendance is silly, but not in CNY. It shows that there still is a viable football fanbase despite the follies we've seen on the Hill for more than a decade.

Stop blaming the fans for everything. That's part of the problem.

I didn't blame them for everything and have often said it is a large group of things going wrong as for SU's lack of success on the field. That said, I am 100% sure that by going to a game and yelling that you have more control over the game than bitching about it while watching on TV. Yelling at tv's really doesn't change the game what so ever but a lot of noise while the other team has the ball certainly can. I can only control what I can control and that is by going to the games. The rest is out of my hands.

And Scooch...of course you can spend your money or time any way you see fit, absolutely. I am simply saying that if the Dome has 45K in it yelling and with passion it would help the team on the field and the recruiting as well. I get bees point about blaming the fans and again I see that but by not going in my eyes...it just makes it more difficult to recruit though we just keep having this endless loop. If the fans (and yes I know there are a bunch of passionate ones like you wrote) do their part there is no blame on them and we can then break down the other problems. To me, it skews the study if the fans are not there as part of the equation. Look...I'm doing my part and now it's up to the football program to do theirs. That's the way I look at it. Again...others can look at it the way they want and that is their right as well.

We need to stop comparing our crowds to Clemson and start comparing ourselves to our NE brethren. Pitt and BC are better comparisons.
