Honest question

I’ve said this before, much of this is based on 1-10 last year, Last year means little to me. How often does a P5 program play wit h 6 available Olinemen. We will beat Ohio Rutgers and Albany. Liberty could be close but I think we win that too.

Hard to get that extra W when you are so far away in your Ls. We got our asses kicked in 6 of the 7 Ls and had one W in OT. Plus this year's schedule is slightly harder IMO.

Just flip the Maryland fiasco for a home Rutgers win (that makes us 2-0) and we’ll have a 3-0 running start into the rest. And perhaps a bit of confidence. 2019 came in overconfident. That won’t be a problem at any point this year.

I think I don't know how to look at our team coming off of weird-asterisk-covid season. 2019 was a real disappointment and it feels like a natural downward trend into 2020's awfulness.

Not sure it's deserved.
Can we stop with the asterisk stuff? Almost every team ended up playing last year all facing the same hurdles re:Covid. We had additional hurdles with new OC and DC but that's on Dino, not Covid. I don't see other teams adding asterisks to their seasons. There wasn't any kind of What is happening in college football last year. Ohio State, Clemson, Bama etc all did what they were supposed to All we did was lose to other teams facing similar Covid restrictions/situations.

Not many play with only that many. That's because the coaches don't let it happen. Your argument would hold more weight if we weren't under .500 for all the other Dino seasons except 1. It's his job to make sure we have enough bodies, he didn't get the job done, 1-10 was the result.

The recruits are also clearly not putting an * by last years season.

The good part is, Dino can wipe that all away quickly with a 3-0 start.

we didn't exactly mop the floor with WMU in 2018(at least after halftime) nor against Liberty in 2019, both road openers against decent G5 teams. You go 1-10 and then you open on the road against a decent G5 team, well, why the hell should we be so confident after the dumpster fire of the last two years? I do believe we win, however, maybe by 10.

Murphy’s Law pre season for Dino, We will see.

Here's a tangent: who do you think of when you say "typical ACC team?" I think of North Carolina State.

Sure - NC State would be favored by at least 10 pts vs. Ohio. Ohio is a middle of the pack MAC team.

I know I come off as antogonistic/pessimistic, not my intent. Hope we win and Dino retires here, idc about coaches just wins, bowl games, post-season..you know the fun stuff. Also ready after 5 years to hold current HC accountable for .400 W/L record. Go Cuse!

Why are people in various threads scared of Ohio? I get liberty, but why Ohio?

Why? The unknown is why. Its not that we don't know how good Ohio is. They are usually a well coached team. What we don't know is who we are.

  • Now that the coordinators or no longer brand new and not operating without spring ball to install new systems, will we be more efficient on both sides of the ball?
  • Assuming we make it through fall camp in one piece, will the offensive line play be improved? Able to sustain a run game? Able to protect the QB?
  • With another year of experience and maturity, along with good competition, will our QB play be improved?
  • With time to put in wrinkles and adjustments in the 3-3-5 scheme, will our defensive front be able to consistently stop the run (in the red zone)?

The unknown makes people uncomfortable.

C’mon. That’s on Dino?!? Are you freaking kidding me?

yeah he had the guts to say after 2019 that things weren’t working and demoted one of his longest tenured guys, fired another and he failed to account for 100 year plague ?!? He should have seen it coming and waited to rip off the bandaid of new OC/DC?

Not every team in CFB replaced their OOC games with conference games with 5 OL and their full back playing G?

Ohio State, Clemson, etc have guys on their 4 deep that would start here.

2020 was so filled with asterisks and legit reasons that it’s hard to get a read on things. That’s all I said. Obviously we weren’t good.

This is how you do it Pyle

We need magic bubbles that all other coaches employ to keep players uninjured

Also - that winning % argument tells us he’s not a great coach. Lots of good coaches have poor winning % at places where it’s hard to win.

you could ala in a game with the 5th string qb and a fb playing oline and no backups and they would struggle to score in games. now they had an elite D to help out but still offense would take a big hit.

I’m just going to assume we will suck until I’m proven otherwise. No expectations, no predictions of beating anyone - expect nothing and take anything above that as upside. In other words, I’ll be pleasantly surprised if we upset Ohio.
