Hopkins Gameday...

Awesome win. Team really needed this one, hopefully they can build on it. Lots of things need to be addressed, but lots of good things as well.

Can’t remember an SU FOGO have such a bad start to a game but turn things around so dominantly. What a game by John Mullen.

Going to watch that hidden ball goal about fifty more times. My favorite is Staudt trying to make a save on English while the ball trickles past him.

Leo had a serious character arc in this one. I was ready to say he lost us the game and then he comes up huge in the clutch.

Hiltz dynamite. English dynamite. Spallina made the plays he had to down the stretch! First half was ugly from him but he made up for it. McCool dynamite in the second half.

Carter freaking Rice. MVP of this team. The amount we ask him to do and he delivers. What a legend. He deserves his flowers after 4 years of heavy ssdm mins.

Chauvette's only talent is chirping after making a wide open shot from 5 yards

Surprised Hopkins doesn’t have a worse rep. That was a real cheap shot on Hiltz and they’ve had a number of “moments” on social media the last couple seasons (thinking of old friend Aviles and his cup shot). Not a good look and it’s been piling up.

big win today def better second half not great still came out second half playing dumb but they fought back n came out on top. Now better be freaking prepared for the colgate 10man rid. Know game before colgate but need to start practicing to break 10 man ride a very good one. As need a win over colgate also

The dudes big viral moment is chirping after a wide open shot from 5 yards out when it was like a 1 goal game with 8 mins left. Cant make this stuff up! Dude got his little shot off on Rice in the first half but then was scared to even challenge the matchup in the clutch out of the timeout at the end. Beautiful to see. Hiltz>Chauvette by a wiiiide margin.

So, did English bait them late by stretching each calf while running clock before springing into that dodge & feed to Leo? The Lax equivalent of “old man game” from the 6th year lol.

Solid win today. Game ball goes to Jimmy McCool. He made some key saves down the stretch. Smelly jock goes to Trey Deere. Disappointing performance from a highly regarded recruit.
Harsh but yeah, Deere needs to start finishing. Left at least 3 goals on the board including the great pass he failed to catch in front of the goal. His shot off the “one more” pass after the Mullen FO win needed to be a worm burner or top shelf, not low-to-stomach.

Had the key trail check on the ride that led to a goal & didn’t deserve that penalty for “bumping” after the late hit on Hiltz. Also picked up a gritty GB in front of their goal to keep possession, which we may have scored on.

Cordes with 2 and 2. Even when Fin comes back I’d like to see him out there over Deere. Need to find another quality player on the 2nd line as McCarthy isn’t the answer.

I will say that McCarthy took a few wing and SSDM reps today and I thought he performed well. Not sure the players are being put in their most optimal positions to succeed.

Haha great catch. I kept wondering why the Hopkins defender wasn’t challenging him, and allowing him to do a full on aerobics class in the middle of the game. May have worked out worse for him if he did.

Good sets today to take advantage of the quick to slide style from the Jays. I like how they brought Hiltz up top at the start of a lot of possessions to quickly move the ball around the horn after the slide. Also like that they rolled with Cordez and his experience over Anderson on most runs. Anderson will get his time, but we saw him playing shaky and went with Cordez instead

Maybe we go Cordes, Deere, Hottle on 2nd line & let McCarthy play SSDM & wing exclusively or a rotation. English is getting warn down. We lucked out playing an entire 6v6 D possession with English clearly hobbled/cramped. He could barely move & was motioning to his teammates & the sideline but Hop didn’t press his matchup.

Deere, for the most part, is doing a ton right but just not finishing. He’s finding openings & making great cuts for great looks. The casual btb pass turnover that, I believe, killed the 2 minute non-releasable (or at least a man-up) was inexcusable though.

Harsh & unnecessary from the “Hottle isn’t a D1 player” guy but yeah, Deere needs to start finishing. Left at least 3 goals on the board not including the great pass he failed to catch in front of the goal. Also had “unnecessary“ behind the back pass to Hiltz in first half to lose possession.

On the last missed shot he had time and room to step to the goal for a better angle too.

Great trail check, (especially for a slow guy) though, and Hottles pass to him was not his fault. That pass was forced, and though we convert our share of those, its still more on Hottle than him

Agree with a lot. Unfortunately for Deere, his calling card and the lone reason he’s on the field is for his finishing ability. Hes leaving too much meat on the bone
