Hopkins Gameday...

I do not believe Deere has shown anything that he deserves to be on the field. Is there something I am missing? Cordes looked great and a shame this coaching staff has not developed him over the past 3 years. I think we were sloppy and still won, that should prove what we are capable of when we are running on all cylinders!
No argument from me. He’s got 8 points on the season so he’s contributed a bit.

But after today’s game… 1 goal against MD, Harv, and Hop combined. Not good enough to warrant 2nd line midfiield, let alone starting attack!!

Hope rhoa is good as he took a beating few times. One took stick to head that wasn’t called. Def can’t have him miss any time. But hopefully gait n company is working on breaking 10man ride in pratice till gate game. Know manhattan first but feel can’t practice enough breaking 10man ride.

Deere was a beast ground balling today and also made one hell of a hustle play on a ride.

Question on SSDM play for anyone who knows or wants to guess. Twice in a 10-10 Game Jake Spallina pressed out and got blown by BADLY. Led to unsettled situations, and we were very lucky neither converted, but either one could have changed to outcome of the game. Seemed to be the type of “What the ” things we do unnecessarily to lose games. Anyone know why he did that and why he did it the second time? Is he told to do it? Seemed to be bad strategy.

Most likely he's being told to press out.

Not looking to open any wounds, a serious question. Why doesn't SU "erase" the football lines in the Dome during lax season? Maryland is another offender on this.
they could put either chalk or paint on them and make them less obtrusive, but i don't know any/many that do?
each could be washed off, chalk's easier.

maybe the football team uses the facility in the spring regularly besides the spring game in addition to the practice facility? but again, nobody really does it. hopkins has only lax lines stitched in, and paints football lines, then removes them.

I don’t know what the answer is. First half the ball just seemed to pop out of his stick, he never caught anything cleanly. Then second half he seemed snake bit on a couple shots. Really bummed he missed that fast break shot, as that could have boosted his confidence. Give him credit for the incredible hustle play.

On paper it seems like Anderson should get the call given his physicality. But he looks lost out there. Teams are going to continue to double pole the midfield if SU can’t figure out that third spot in Thomson’s absence. They played well today and managed it, but it’s definitely not sustainable long term.

Frustrating since both of the best options came in so highly touted. I thought Deere looked really good to start the year so hopefully he gains some confidence. Very curious to see what they do vs Manhattan.

Deere (besides that god awful BTB pass) was good with the intangibles and GB's so he was at least contributing out there. Still I think you have to give Anderson some sustained PT. Yes he looked like a deer in the headlights but your putting him in late 2nd qtr in a rivalry game as a true frosh, did the staff think he was gonna be Mike Powell reincarnate out there? Gotta let him get some sustained run and see what he can do. I like Deere a lot but there's no way he's gonna be the long term answer at attack at least this season and per Gait's presser sounds like Thomson is gonna be out a while. They have got to give Anderson a chance to take the job.

0fer in shooting and two TOs I think is what most people are seeing as why is he out there
His hustle is great but could do nothing with the ball

Also again he maybe snake bite and getting some bad breaks but Deere has to be like 2 for 20 at this point on point bank looks, if he can't finish around the crease we gotta get someone in there who can at least force a pole matchup.

As a random observation, this game turns out differently if 1) Mullin doesn't get hot in the third quarter, and 2) our goalie play wasn;t WAY better than Hop's. All hail the specialists.

On the other hand, if half the Cuse pipe shots went in, the boys would've had a comfortable lead going into the fourth.

The crazy thing about that play was the defender on Spallina signaled that Spallina had the ball and he was covering him. The goalie missed it completely.
i think fact english started slow then full out sprint is what sold it. Hard to look off a guy coming that fast at you. Make ya think twice who actually has it. English def sold that whole exchange !

I think shooters at times holding it to much n not catch n shoot in single motion. Specially on those skip passes gotta catch n rip so D n goalie can’t close in on you or pick up on ball. We tend to wanna catch reload then shoot , when should be already loaded to go before even catching. Also think missing part of our game of shooting when going down alley. Don’t seem to have many transition goals either or fast breaks. We have had fast breaks but either bad pass or drop pass or hit goalie right in chest.

Overall solid win. Hopefully this was game to kick team in behind to start playing a full game. Gonna need to be able to get ball out n up quickly vs colgate n that ride. As seemed at times was subbing during the clear n taking to long for guys get on to help guys out but they only failed two clears. But hop doesn’t ride like colgate will. Think ya switch anderson with deere at attack n out deere back on second mid line with hottle b cordes. As with both them have good speed n can feed maby will allow deere to get looks inside n finish. Either way good win needed it badly n well played john mullen way to battle back. Also great job McCool.

He is tough man! Plays hard and def a big part of the offense

I said the same thing to my wife. I was looking at the shot clock because was confused why Spalina was shooting from the top of the box! The defender was covering him. Cool play!
