Hey guys. Anyone have any sweet secrets about staying in NYC, possibly near MSG? Trying to find a room from the 12/3 - 12/6 that wont make the ol troop any more poor than he already is.

How far away from MSG is too far? With uber and such, we should be able to get around pretty easy.
We have friends staying in NJ, and they will uber each night.. but I think my girl wants to have the "city experience", since she has not been in like 15 years.

Any tips would be awesome. I don't really have any brand loyalty when it comes to hotels.

I'm a fan of the Comfort Inn Manhattan Bridge on the Lower East Side where I've stayed for multiple BETs. Affordable (around $150-175 per night), clean, easy 15 min subway ride to MSG, and within walking distance to Clinton Street Baking Company, the best breakfast spot in the city (in my opinion).

CuseTroop...seen all the stories. My girl, my friend and myself will be attending the game. Heard all of the stories about the legend...I must by you a drink!

Sounds good man!

I have had some success in the past with Priceline. Just found an express deal for a 3.5 star hotel in the Empire State Bldg area for $219 looking for less than a minute. That is a pretty good deal for a location close to MSG and Times Square.

Priceline.com - hotel, hotel reservation, cheap hotel, las vegas hotel, boston hotel, hotel deal, new york city hotel, hotel rooms, motel, lodging, accommodations, casino hotel, priceline

I wouldn't go for any deal for a hotel less than 3 stars...

I did a quick kayak search this morning, didn't think of priceline. Thanks!

This might be the way to go! thanks!

We have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express near MSG in the past. Rooms are small but clean- this time of year will cost though- I think was over$250 when we were looking.

Past couple years have stayed in Secaucus NJ- 5 min walk to a quick cheap bus that runs into the city 24 hours a day . We were hesitant the first time as we like to he in the city but has worked out well for games. Staying there for UCONN game this year too.

Stay in Jersey. Save a lot of $. The train from Secacus goes right to Penn St (MSG). Then u can uber anywhere u want to go

I've brought this up to Sonnary a few times... She still wants to stay in the city. If she had been there a ton of times before, I'd press it.. I figure, I'm lucky that she will fly half way around the world, to a cold NYC, for a basketball game... I might as well stay where she wants to stay.

I'll keep working on her tho

Try via instead of Uber - think you'd really like it too! Rides are always a low flat fare - it's the smartest way to get around.

You can download the app here: Via | Smarter shared rides - Download the app now!

Hotwire, and don't be afraid to wait. Should be able to get a four-star place for under $150, no problem.

Yeah, agreed. Should be able to get a nice 4/4.5 for $150-200. There is a Hell's Kitchen gem I like called Ink 48, fwiw.

Advice from 1 drinker to another, stay in the City.

No matter where u r in Manhattan, you can walk home or cab it in a few minutes, that's priceless.

You can get a drink 24/7 and not be looked at with an evil eye.

Also priceless.

If your hotel window view is of a brick wall...we'll damnit that's a brick wall in Fn NYC!!!

DONT BE B & T TOURISTS!!!

Check the hostiles. Learn to read the subway map. Or you can can around Manhattan pretty cheap. Midtown is walkable.
Stayed at a holiday in on 26&7 or thereabouts. Pretty good. Also, check off broadway.

Ink 48 is excellent. The Print restaurant inside is actually quite good; had some amazing grilled octopus during my last stay.

Yup. It's a bit isolated there in that part of Kitchen but definitely a gem. But, like others have said it is prime Manhattan location. You can get anywhere easily via some combo of your feet/Uber/subway/cab.

That same management company, Kimpton, has another awesome gem in Chicago (River North) called Kinzie Hotel I've used a few times. Usually another steal for the price for a boutique spot.

Big fan of Airbnb since you'll only need a room to sleep and shower. If you don't mind seeing a stranger once or twice in a living room, you'll save hundreds of dollars.

I agree that Air B & B is a good option. You should have plenty to pick from in NYC. Go for one with high ratings and lots of reviews.
