Houston Postgame

Team held up well against a very good and very physical team. These guys do not look like they will get bullied this year. Win against Kansas and this loss will be forgotten by almost everyone.
Win the next two and root for Houston to win the tourney so we can point to the loss as part of the statement of the quality of the squad this year.

current rankings will change a lot by the end of the year

if I was a houston fan, I;d be more than a little concerned with that performance
Maybe, but a Kelvin Sampson-coached team hasn’t so much as finished runner-up in their conference in a non-COVID season since 2018. Solid chance they’re better than whoever wins the ACC this year.

tough tough tough loss. Dont know how many times I can reiterate that in one post. Free Throws have turned into gamble throws at this point

Win or lose, these games achieve something else—national attention. If Syracuse can continue to match up with the big dogs, important people will take note (Recruits, transfers, etc.). Most of the teams we are playing have seasoned head coaches with play styles and rosters they have been working on for multiple years.

Syracuse comes in with a coach on the hot seat and a roster pulled together with a first-time college GM. Our highest scorer was a last-second add.

If they can continue to push the envelope and improve every game. Imagine what Autry, Straugh, Kline, and the rest of the staff can do with momentum behind their backs.

Tomorrow is another chance to go 1-0. They have an opportunity, finally, this season, to put a run together. Can they get over the hump? Who knows, but im locked in.

LGO!

If this team can settle in to 66-68 pct from the line they are going to win a lot of games this year. 66 pct tonight and it’s a win against a top 5 team.

That would certainly be the best outcome of the weekend.

Gonzaga is about to beat Houston pretty comfortably. Bama missed a bunch of free throws.
AA should have his team studying that video where Boeheim makes like 50 or was it 100 or was it 1,000 free throws in a row? I mean they are literally "free throws"!

They also are working in not 1 , not 2, but 3 true freshman into their rotation. They are going to get much better as well.

Great game yo watch. Lots of positives.

  • Our point guard play is great to se
    • Huge upgrade over last 10 years
  • Winning this game require only one of below
    • 50% FT shooting
    • 33% 3Point shooting
    • Finish one shot at the rim ( last shot in regulation
Can we march our effort and attitude we saw in this game against Kansas is what I would love to see. If that happens, then this is a top 25 team.

Even being down by 11 at the 4 minute mark. I was happy with what I was watching. No posturing or complaining to the refs looking for calls. Great to see.

GO CUSE

By this time last season, it was already pretty obvious that we missed on some key guys in the portal. I'm really happy with the roster construction so far. There's really nobody who I can say "Wow I can't figure out what Alex and Red were thinking there." Now some guys need to improve - we really need Kingz to start shooting like he did last year, for example.

But even the guys I wasn't all that excited about are doing well - speaking particularly about Kyle and whether he would be able to play at this level or was a better fit at a mid-major. I wasn't sure what role Betsey would play this year as it seemed like we were already pretty full at forward. I really missed on those two based on early results. So kudos to Alex and Red.

That being said, wins are what matters. Next 3 games are critical, particularly today as far as our NCAA resume. Plus on a personal note, I'd really like to get bragging rights on my KU friends here in Kansas again.

The hardest thing to do in sports is go from close losses against elite teams to wins against elite teams. It takes a mindset that the team just assumes they are going to win and there is no doubt in their minds that they will make the plays needed to win. Unfortunately the only way to get that mentality is to actually do it a few times.

Is this team equal to Kansas... absolutely. But until they prove it to themselves it's an uphill battle.

Yeaaa you mighta saw someone handsome on your tv screen, but sadly it wasn't me. If we were in town, I'd have been there for sure. This new #rvlife has been messing up my SU sports adventures.

Any veterans thinking about swinging in for the next two games, you can get 4 tix for $16/session through vettix.com.

I heard you were in Florida, is that true?

One huge takeaway from this game is we don't quit and fold like past teams. This team plays with a lot of heart. Down by 11 against the no. 3 team in the country and we came back.
Hopefully our guys got some rest last night and can do it again with a better finish.
Red's first team seemed to give up at the end of games if things got tough and that was a major criticism I had. Like against Texas and Texas Tech -- games were actually competitive but then the team collapsed at the end and lost by 15-20, and that's all anyone knows about the game. Glad to see that not happen last night when they got down 11. Maybe it was a player issue more than a Red issue.

You should listen to the Besty interview after the game. He raves about this team’s work ethic and how ALL the coaches believe in them and puts them in places to succeed. I wish our fans would back off on the bashing of the coaches and start appreciating what this team is trying to do. This team is well coached and only going to get better. Have we had a game yet this year with our full complement of players? JJ, Betsy and Freeman have all missed games. It’s tough to constantly adjust your rotations when guys are missing. This team is not going to back down from anything. JB’s team got crushed by Houston in the tournament the last time they played.

I admit I was just hoping to keep it respectable at that point. Very pleasantly surprised we didn't do the el foldo.

Something tells me you don’t care for Adrian Autry. Maybe I’m wrong.
I think Red dated his sister or something. I know everyone would have loved to see a gorgeous play run to perfection but Houston plays disruptive D. We did well overall against it playing with an intensity that I loved. Can somebody make a foul shot for Gods sake.

They will improve but they miss their big kid from last year. They don't seem as physically tough inside.
