Nobody touches Clint. Would like to see him pass the torch to someone else, but there's just nobody like him.

There will never be anyone who approaches Clint. They just don't make 'em like that any more.

That commercial Made my Day!

Here you go, sunshine!

ok? I dont get the boston globe so I couldn't read the article.

I mean it was a great commercial! Don't get me wrong, and Clint is the man, but to come out and say "their back" and everything is peachy is pretty much BS. They have had a slight increase over the past few months, while the city is still cutting jobs. The new budget cuts for this year have yet to even take effect yet other than in the military where they are already kicking people out by the truck load.

But yeah, awesome commercial!

You're right, they are saying they're back. ;)

well detroit metro and the state of michigan are two different things. your linked article says state unemployment rate has gone down which is a big deal imho.

chrysler sales are up and 2 chrylser plants are adding added a 2nd and 3rd shift - which is an obvious sign that business is up.

building more cars has a serious ripple affect in the overall michigan economy. from suppliers to jiffy lubes.

Loved the commercial (personally). I think it's also great for branding. Very clean and simple ad. They weren't trying to win the night, they are trying to win in the long run with that ad.

I thought the Pepsi Elton John commerical was just as badass, if not more.

I thought it was a political ad at first.

Clint Eastwood 2012

Wouldn't be amazing if there wasn't such a division among Americans and that there was a commonality among us that would inspire the nation to act as one united people? No more right v. left, rich v. poor, people of color v. no color people, Dems v. GOP. It seems like we all band together in groups to hate one another.

That being said... Georgetown sucks!

Detroit is the #1 example that Republicans should roll out when saying that Dems & Unions should not be in charge anywhere for an extended period of time.

That being said, I think that Chrysler has hit home runs that last two years.

Watching that Clint ad, I was envisioning a statement that it was from the Big 3 collectively, or that GM would say, if you don't buy a Chevy, please buy American.

When there are irreconcilable differences in philosophy between large factions, that's what you get.

One side believes Government is the answer and wants more and more of it. The other side believes Government is the problem and wants less of it. The people in the middle of the argument are disappearing or uninterested.

This is, afterall, a commercial ... designed at its core to sell cars made in Detroit. A commodity that the American people have wanted less and less of for at least the last 30 years. I haven't owned an "American" car since the 1980's. I don't even buy German cars if I know that model was assembled in the US (e.g. BMW X5)

Detroit does a good job making ads. They just have a problem making cars people want.

The Detroit-based car companies have failed in good economic times as well as bad ones. And now they are waving the US flag.

Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.

I find this whole wave of Detroit ads a tad annoying tbh. You made shitty cars for 20 years, now we're supposed to feel sorry for you, and come back out of some loyalty to America that you're pushing as hard as you can...blah. Make a good product and you wouldn't have had these problems.

They definitely have made some crappy products over the years, but Chrysler definitely seems to be putting out some quality cars right now. Their performance ratings have been very good from what I have seen. The Chrysler 200 is definitely a nice car for under 20k

Want an eye opener? Tour the BMW plant in Munich.

It's in the middle of a city. Highly tenured workers. All parts and all tools and robots made in high cost Germany.
The plant churns out a stream of high-quality BMWs that are snapped up by a world market

Carl Rove is really pissed about that commercial. He doesn't like the idea of 23 million people being reminded that the bailout saved our auto industry and city in doing so. Clint is one of those iconic people in the entertainment industry that can't be copied . He is simply "Clint" He is on that list of rare actors that just can't be diplicated. Others I think are Clark Gable Jimmy Stewart Harrison Ford. There are a few others whose names are just at my finger tips.Oh yeah Spencer Tracey Humphrey Bogart and James Cagney. Some thinkCharlton Heston belongs in the group. I'm not one of them but he did have a couple big $ movies; didn't he? John Wayne was John Wayne in every part he ever recited.:noidea:

Funny you should mention Karl Rove, he's coming to speak at Goldstein Auditorium on the 15th.
