Hubert Davis Seat is Less Hot Than Autry on 2/12/2025

I love Hodgson’s upside but he might be a bit risky because he doesn’t have much of a track record yet. As you pointed out, Kelsey and Oats were proven commodities at the mid major level and had been to the NCAA tourney multiple times. You could also put Danny Hurley in that box. But on the other hand, we could be getting him before he really blows up. I also like Ben McCollum at Drake, who’s won National championships (albeit in D2).
I get the concern. I think the expectations and the initial contract would have to consider all of those things if it were to happen. I also think you have several candidates out there with the resources that can get us back to success pretty quickly, but also who can get us back to success and could be here for 15+ years. I think that’s what Hodgson sets himself apart from the rest.

Last night sucked and all that but Miami did look way better than 1-11.

Hell yeah, looks can certainly be deceiving...especially when one has something to do with that! ;):p

No one on this board knows the details of the contract and no one at SU would share those. So, who knows. The only thing that is hinted at is firing Red would have A cost associated with it and that SU is generally conservative with money.
Except when it comes to inking long-term deals for coaches that have dubious qualifications, apparently.

Based on JW's last 2 coaching hires, I don't think he shares our concerns about a track record as a qualifier.

McCollum from Drake would be an absolute grand slam hire.

I don't think he'll be at Drake long, and I think we'd have LOTS of competition to land him, which might not work in our favor.

I doubt Red is much over $2 million, tops. JB was only making slightly over $2.8 million.

Yep...yes he is a Midwest guy, but everywhere he's coached they've won. He's 23-2 in his first season at Drake. Has a .82% coaching record, he's won 4 D2 championships in the last 10 years. He can find guys with northeast ties to help acclimate to the NE. Winners win, doesn't matter where they come from.

I think Iowa lands him with McCaffrey probably retiring this year. Or obviously Indiana. He's a Midwest guy.
