I don't get the ND hatred here...

Syracuse is NOT the Northern Ireland / Protestant antithesis to ND.

If you are hanging your hat on the "Orange" idea and William of Orange, you should check your historical dates. There is absolutely zero connection between SU and William of Orange or Northern Ireland.

I'd be willing to bet that Protestants are a minority at SU. If you combine Catholics and Jews you'd get to way over 50%.
Well, SU was founded by the Methodists.

As far as ND goes, I guess I would lean towards rooting for them in most cases. In this case definitely. I LOATHE alabama (can't even bring myself to capitalize the A). In regards to ND and people saying they are selfish, well answer what school/business is not?! They were given the opportunity to stay football independent and have the first great TV contract...name one school that would turn that down. If you don't like/hate them because they seem to get preferential treatment, don't blame them. They get this treatment because other schools and the NCAA allow them to. Now if you don't like/hate them because of things like Accurater (above) mentioned, I can undersand...I just don't understand hating them because they are selfish/get preferential treatetment cause we all know that if Syracuse was able to get that everyone on this board would be all for it!!

I think Bama is extremely lucky that they are not facing a good passing team, those teams eat them up.

That's one hell of a magic trick right there, unless there's a webcam involved... :D

Actually one could be on one side of Jennifer Love Hewitt and one on the other and I'm pretty sure they'd both be able to drink at the same time from each city without any issues.

its easy to hate them when they are in your conference, except when theyre not.

i hate all conf foes, expecially the one whos membership is like theirs.

now if my kids can get in, im sending them......

Oh Lord

I hate ND because they have a bazillion bandwagon fans who are all coming out and acting like diehard fans. Where were all of them during the Davies/Willingham/Weis days? It makes me laugh, but they are Irish so they get a slight pass. ;)

They are as selfish as it gets... without question. Can't wait until they have to fully join a conference.

As Marsh said, they are in the same group as the BoSox, Hoyas and Cowboys. Amen.

Did they deserve to get into the NC? Sure. But Pitt deserves some credit too.

You also once expressed a view that you didn't see what the big fuss was about drinking and driving. Sometimes you miss the big picture, as great as you are.

I don't have a view on ND except that the thought of living for 4 years in that sh1tty Indiana town makes me want to forget college and join a union instead. But easy to see why someone might not like an elitist catholic institution if they aRe not catholic.
Tristy...not Catholic...but like Notre Dame and its history, tradition, and fact it is going to beat the SEC's ass...next to that...whatever!

If ND joins the ACC as a full member then I will root for them, until then, with their partial member elitist bs im going to say ROLL TIDE.

beside the FACT that they're historically over rated in every poll notre dames refusal to go all in when they joined the big east conference is total BS and i've have kicked them out years ago.

I believe the word I'm looking for here is "pompous"

I hope both bama and ND lose - is that possible? I despise them both.

Now that brought me back.

ND earned their spot in this game, solid schedule and going undefeated. Bama, well Kansas St has a beef imo because they too won their conference and had one loss but once again the Big 12 conference winner lost to a average Big 12 team and an SEC team took advantage. KState beat 9 6 win or more AQ teams while Bama beat 5.

There were a ton of ND fans in the Dome (I would estimate about 15K) during that blizzard regular season finale in 2003 when we were both 5-6.

ND is like the Yankees. You either love them or hate them. Whether TV, movies, radio, the clothing, publicity, rabid fans, rabid dislikers etc. ND is everywhere so ND elicits a reaction. Love em or hate em.

Then there fortunately or not is the ethic religion thing. If your Irish or Catholic it's your team. If you are biased against Irish Catholic probably a ND hater. ND is unique in being advertised as an ethnic University. We don't have other universities with nicknames like the Kicking French, the Maurauding Germans, the Pulverizing Poles etc. Yeah we have BYU but at least they don't have a Touchdown Brigham that we have to hear about.

Having traveled there, I have a new appreciation for them. The first trip, in 2005, I thought their fans were as classy as any I've ever encountered. Liked their whole production, playing the SU fight song over the speaker at the end of the stadium that opposing fans enter. Then their band learns our fight song and plays it both before and after the game, thought that was cool. The second trip in 2008 was a little different, because their fans were so angry with Weiss, it was the snowball game. But still, treated SU fans (at least me) with respect. One of the only places I can think of where I couldn't name at least 20 fans who I hoped were forced to sleep outside because of how douchy they were. I also thought it was cool how they let cuseregular stay at the game after his, well, breaking of team rules.

Having said that, South Bend is an uninteresting, strip mall, sh!thole in the middle of nowhere, and I don't know how anyone gets through 4 years at that school with any sanity left.

As far as them being independent and only looking out for themselves, let's be honest. They do it because they can. And we all wish we could too. Those that can't are equally greedy, they're just forced into a conference to do it. So they keep moving around to find a better deal. That's the sport, so like or leave it.

I hope they beat Alabama, because I find SEC fans to be inexplicably insecure, which also makes them challenging to be within 500 yards. The horror of losing to ND in a championship game will probably increase the suicide rate in that state. At that point, it might just be natural selection.

I actually like watching SEC football. Who cares what their fans are like. The product on the field is amazing. Lol at everyone calling ND an "SEC team" because of their front 7, I would LOVE to see Bama' beat them down with no mercy.

Grew up Catholic and loved ND as a kid then realized they were not the good guys and not worth my adoration, as I shifted my focus to SU and ND and NBC became buddies i started to despise the Irish ... i dont like the SEC ( the conference that proves cheating pays) but still hope Alabama crushes ND

Let me be more precise... I hate that all of the ND "fans" that I unfortunately have to deal with now are acting like they've been with the team all along. Makes me want to put Habanero Tabasco in their beers. Perhaps, I will. Roll Damn Tide.
