I don't get the ND hatred here...

I work with 3 ND fans. Two are Irish Catholic, one is Jewish who also roots for USC? They don't watch the games, don't even know who their QB is, but scream about "our awesome linebacker" not sure if they know his name and how they are going to be National Champs. I think that just about sums up alot of ND fans.

Let me be more precise... I hate that all of the ND "fans" that I unfortunately have to deal with now are acting like they've been with the team all along. Makes me want to put Habanero Tabasco in their beers. Perhaps, I will. Roll Damn Tide.
Best part of ND in dome as Walter
Reyes was scoring at will was the the Rudy chant that went around late in the game

ND is like the Yankees. You either love them or hate them. Whether TV, movies, radio, the clothing, publicity, rabid fans, rabid dislikers etc. ND is everywhere so ND elicits a reaction. Love em or hate em.

Then there fortunately or not is the ethic religion thing. If your Irish or Catholic it's your team. If you are biased against Irish Catholic probably a ND hater. ND is unique in being advertised as an ethnic University. We don't have other universities with nicknames like the Kicking French, the Maurauding Germans, the Pulverizing Poles etc. Yeah we have BYU but at least they don't have a Touchdown Brigham that we have to hear about.

I'm Irish and Catholic and loathe ND

Syracuse is NOT the Northern Ireland / Protestant antithesis to ND.

If you are hanging your hat on the "Orange" idea and William of Orange, you should check your historical dates. There is absolutely zero connection between SU and William of Orange or Northern Ireland.

I'd be willing to bet that Protestants are a minority at SU. If you combine Catholics and Jews you'd get to way over 50%.
You are very uneducated at that Point,(No William of Orange Connection's) SU was a Methodist School , Started by Methodists, The Majority of Colleges in America started out as Theological Seminary's Princeton/Yale/Harvard/etc.

They definitely won the games and deserve the chance, but...

I just dislike ND and always root for them to lose in everything they do. I get excited when we beat them in women's rowing.

Historical Data SU Founded by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methodist_Episcopal_Church

Well, SU was founded by the Methodists.

Which means what?

So were Duke, USC, Bradley, SMU and many others. They all still belong to the Association of Methodist Colleges.

Four words:

Tim Brown Heisman Trophy

Hate the Irish. And have successfully passed it on to all four of my sons.

^^^This. My hatred for ND went up 100 notches when that sham of a ceremony went their way. Literally one of the biggest Heisman travesties of all time and I havent watched nor taken that award seriously since that day.

They won their NC game slot on the field. If we had won 12 games the way they did ... we'd all be cheering.

Okay, they may (or may not) get smooshed by Bama, but they won the right to play in the game.

do you not expect the hoyas to hate us? im confused with your post.

And not the first time either.
See; Jim Brown vs Paul Hornung- 1956 Heisman travesty

Roy .. I'm guessing you weren't a History major.

William of Orange died about 100 years before the Methodist Church was founded.

There is NO connection between William of Orange and the Orangemen of Northern Ireland and the Methodist Church. And there is no connection between The Orange of Northern Ireland and Syracuse University.

When I am clueless on a point --- as you are on this one --- I try and restrain myself from commenting.

Let's see...Tim brown beating out Donnie with a made up stat. ND starting this mess with their own tv network. Their whole we are better than you. No one talking about the kid that got killed because of Kelly. The Stanford fiasco. ND is very hateable.

I just dislike Notre Dame, worst Heisman winner ever in 1956 on a 2-8 team. Hornung actually threw 3 td passes and had 13 interceptions.

Do I hate ND? Yes. Why do I hate them? For about 100 reasons, some I have even forgotten. Do they belong in this years NC game? Absolutely. Roll Tide.

I don't quite get why people hate them as much as they do, but it truly is fine. In fact, I'd argue the reason ND has it's own network is because of their intense 'hateability' factor.

Maybe it's because of the special, privileged treatment ND always receives on many levels.

Ummm, what are all these other schools doing?

Good point - one that I expected to be made.

And it's true, but ND has always been the trail blazer in college athletic greed.

And I think the way ND used the BE is unique to the greedy world of college sports.

ND stands above the others in that category.

My main reason to despise alabama: Nick Saban.

Some other reasons:
- They are in the SEC
- Their fans (I have to deal with them as I live in LA (aka Lower Alabama(aka Florida Panhandle)))
- Nick Saban

Why I am rooting for ND:
- Although they may not be a full football member, they are still a member of the Big East and soon to be member of the ACC.
- They are playing alabama
- They are playing an SEC team...don't want a 7th straight NC team from the SEC

It takes two to tango. ND did not use the BE any more than it is using the ACC going forward.

I actually like watching SEC football. Who cares what their fans are like. The product on the field is amazing. Lol at everyone calling ND an "SEC team" because of their front 7, I would LOVE to see Bama' beat them down with no mercy.

"Who care what their fans are like."

If no one cared what a team's fans were like, this wouldn't be a topic in the first place.

So blame ND because the BE didn't have the balls to stand up to them??
