I have been as cavalier about JB’s job as anyone

Hak and GMac jersey retirements. Wouldn't be surprised if Melo, Forth and others were in the house to help celebrate. Jesse and JG3 Senior Day. Possibly Symir also. Why wouldn't people want to go?

Like today. Why would 5000+ people stay home on a beautiful CNY Saturday afternoon against one of our biggest traditional rivals. I understand if it's a Tuesday night 9 pm game with ten inches of snow on the ground.
No idea. I dont buy both Football and Basketball seasons, just football. For hoops I do single games when I can. Given the tone of the thread I was just commenting that as a Syracuse fan I would want to hit that final game with my son.
My guess there was a thin crowd because the quality of play, as has been discussed, has unfortunately gone down hill and so what used to be an “event” anytime there was a Cuse hoops game has become less “must go”. I will catch a few more this season but I am of mind to make sure I go to the last game. That’s all.

JB specifically mentioned in the presser how much this game and GTown meant to him, even if it “wasn’t the same”.

Judah mentioned too that you don’t “see coach get emotional too often”. He left it at that, but clearly JB was emotional to the team post game.

Mike Waters asked about scheduling GTown next year. JB laughed and said I’m not worried about the schedule next year. He didn’t say anything like “hopefully we can do something to continue the rivalry”.

It’s just adding up to seeming like the end

The way he talked in his last presser last year has me convinced he was planning on retiring had the year gone how we expected.

But he’s too much of a competitor to go out that way. Is Georgetown great? Obviously not, but this was the best we’ve played them in recent memory. Hopefully the boys can string some wins together and have us playing meaningful ball in the new year. Get Jimmy one more tourney.

I have been in NC all fall. Cornell will be my first game back. I got a huge lump in my throat as I watched Jim’s speech. He and Juli were definitely crying, and as he ended it with “Syracuse is the greatest place to live on earth” his voice cracked. Even if he doesn’t announce it towards the end of the year, I hope the fans will figure it out and that the Dome will get fuller and fuller as the season progresses.

I have been a part of Dome crowds that literally willed the team to win. I sure would like to see that happen this year. The Georgetown crowd was very enthusiastic and I am sure it fed the energy on the team.

Go Boeheim and Go Cuse!

His pressers are getting worse and worse. Doesn’t even let mike and Donna finish a question before he talks over them. I find it completely childish behavior. Ok, questions are in game decisions. and second guessing suck, but for the most part our beat reporters are tame and ask softball questions

He was calm yesterday, but you're correct that they never complete a question.

Because some people are showing “protesting” by not buying tickets that something needs to change with the program. They are hitting the pockets of the athletic department. Really the only way the fans can influence a change. The product has deteriorated and they are not buying tickets to show their displeasure.

Sorry I should clarify that this post is entirely opinion.

George Washington died because medical science at the time suggested that removing his "bad blood" would eliminate the sickness. it left him too weak to survive what may have been just a common cold when it began.

You don't make a situation stronger by removing its source of strength. If the fans don't go to the games, the university has less money to spend on the program, the players have less encouragement and recruits - and potential coaches - are less impressed with the school as a possible destination.

Just curious what you think would be a way for fans to have their voices heard? I completely understand your point.

But money talks, and it is the fastest way for the university to “hear” what the fans are saying. The voices have been getting louder the past 2 years. The university has said JB had a lot of built up equity. The fans are finally starting to show it via game day attendance. I would argue it started towards the end of last year. It’s easy for the university to ignore the fan base voices. It’s completely different when it starts to effect the bottom line.

It’s not doing anything productive. He’s leaving when he’s leaving regardless. Seems like it’s this year.

If you want to go have fun at the game and support the team, then go. If you don’t, then don’t. This take that you’re really accomplishing something productive and proving a point by not going is misguided here, IMO. This just isn’t that type of situation.

How is it misguided? When teams don’t perform; attendance usually dwindles. Why spend part of your day spending money for something you are irritated and fed up with? That in turns makes colleges and professional teams fire coaches. Get a better product and fans will come back to support the team and the product on the field.

I live in Buffalo and just had a child. So this isn’t about me or my beliefs. But you can’t say that the casual fan is not taking this into consideration. The product on the basketball field has gone downhill the last several years. The fans are starting to follow. It will not be pretty when the students go on break.

Feels like JB and the athletic department are putting together a swan song of a season without publicly saying it:
- commemorations of JB and his players' accomplishments (Ring of honor, Hak + GMac, 2003 20 year celebration)
-Zero recruits in '23
-JB visibly emotional talking about the program and a sense of 'the end' all but said from his demeanor.

Assuming it is his final year, would the department promote his final home game as such beforehand? He deserves the community's support and a soldout Dome, one final time.

The powerhouse schools get capacity crowds all the time and they fire coaches when they aren't winning enough. Matt Doherty, Billy Gillespie, Steve Lavin and Archie Miller are a few examples. They even force out long-time coaches like Ted Owens, Digger Phelps, Gene Keady, Denny Crum and John Chaney. You don't need to empty the stands to do that. The idea that you want to cut off the life-blood of the program to make it better is stupid.

For sure...I just don’t want to see him go out with an half empty dome. He deserves more.

Given that it’s the final Dome game of the season, on a Saturday, and they’re honoring GMac and Hak, I’d be really shocked if it wasn’t 30k+.

Now, IF they actually announce that JAB will be retiring at the end of this season before that game, then it’ll be a packed house.

I’m gonna be there as part of a group of 8 of my fraternity brothers, so that’s 8 more fans in the Dome who normally would be watching from home.

I hope if this is his last year that there's an announcement before the last two home games. It's not a retirement tour like K did but it still gives fans a chance to go to the Dome and say thanks.

The attendance dollars are nothing in the scheme of the money the program makes.

The fact that it's Gmac and Hak going up the rafters makes it less likely it will be a retirement announcement for JB prior to the last home game because that will just completely side step Gmac and Hak.

Like I said…..if you don’t find it fun or worth it to go and choose not to go for that reason, fine. That’s understandable.

I’m talking about the “I’m protesting and taking a stand!” stuff. That’s pointless. They’re not going to fire him. He’s going to go when he’s going to go and it seems like it’s this year, so anyone staying home to prove a point - I hope they reconsider.
